Lavellan why are you wearing your pajamas under your armor?

It explains why Solas broke up with her. There could only be one pajama elf in that relationship and she started wearing them under her armor. He was so outclassed by her pajama elf game that he had to leave.

Damn you people for beating me to everything! *shakes fist*, I went and took those especially!

S-sorry!

Maybe it's just because the Dalish use a welsh accent, but I like to think this song represents my Lavellan before the events at Haven. :D

I don't know... I personally just don't get the Culle-hype? I never really cared for him in DA:O and DA2 and I don't really care for him now.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike or even hate his character, because I don't. I think it's great that he got so much character development this time around, and I'm glad for the folks who have been advocating for him as a partymember / romance that they finally got their wish. I can also see the appeal, it's a very sweet, fluffy romance from what I've seen.

I suppose... his whole charm is just kinda lost on me, I guess? It's like so many people are gushing over him, and the devs give him special attention (with that shirtless-riding-a-horse pic and then his cameo in the "Game of the year" - award video?) and I'm just sitting over there, shrugging and going "....uuuuhm... cool or whatever?"

I can't really say why though. Sometimes a character just doesn't do it for me, romance-wise. Was the same with Alistair in DA:O, with Fenris in DA2, Kaidan and Liara in ME, and now Cullen in DA:I. Again, that doesn't mean I don't like the characters. In fact, I love all those stupid dorks to bits and pieces, but they somehow just don't really cut it for me.

Caboods,

Cullen never did anything for me either. DA:O was my first Bioware RPG and my first foray into gaming as an adult. I had no idea what I was getting into. Romance didn't even cross my mind. I played Amell Mage, and this nice guy wearing fancy armor spoke to me after my harrowing and I didn't really think much of it. He seemed a little nervous, but I didn't pick up what he was laying down. Of course, later, it was a huge surprise to me when we went back to the tower and heard his confession. A huge lightbulb went off in my braincase. It was so tragic. It was definitely one of those "Oh ****, this game is not messing around," situations, and I was genuinely sad for him. I always viewed it as unrequited. It wasn't until much much later, when I had a close friend who also played DA:O, she revealed that Cullen was such a heartthrob in the DA community. I was pretty surprised, but I can see the appeal. It's just not for me.

I agree with you on Kaiden and Liara too. I guess Liara's story arc gets much better in 2 and 3, but in ME1, I was like "eghhh, No thanks." Something just doesn't jive with me for these two. I have to disagree with you on Fenris though. Yummmmmmmm. I blame Gideon Emery for my Fenris problem. Holy balls.

Gideon Emery as Fenris gives me life. I don't find Fenris (or elves in general) particularly sexy but hot damn that boy. Solas has now joined the ranks of "urgh, their voices and faces kill me".

Is it weird that I just don't feel "broken up"? That he didn't really end it? Everyone else seems so sure, but I just don't think so (assuming you didn't end it in the scene, that is). My brain interpreted it as... he's got his secrets, he can't share, doesn't want to hurt you, but still loves you, so it's not over.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking? Also, I would point out I've never actually had experience being rejected--I married my high school sweetheart, so yea. Never been dumped before. Is this how it feels? The I love you scene I felt like my heart was just punched out of my chest :(

I don't think it's weird. I feel like it is very much over but I can see how Solas still being very much in love with Lavellan makes it seem like there could be more.

I liked him more as Balthier but I don't think I'd call it 'attractive.' Nice to listen to in it's own way, like Greg Ellis as Cullen, but not really 'attractive.'

There's something I have to get off my chest, here.  Let me be clear, though!  I feel guilty even bringing this up, given how few and precious our Lavellen's one-on-one Solasmancing moments are.  But did anyone else feel a bit... rushed having to force that first kiss to continue the romance?

And his response, though gratifying, a bit out of character?

Even for a guy where things "come easier" in the fade, we're talking about someone who is- assumedly- far more used to the pace of ancient elven life, with introductions that could span hundreds of years.  Assuming he's intrigued by Lavellen's intellectual curiosity and attracted by her beauty at this point, he's clearly not going to make the first move (which is right on target) but when she does, it seems... odd that he responds with more than shock.  (Pleased shock, but shock none the less.)  Not the immediate "rawr!  Fade tongue!" that happens.  That's some crazy throw-caution-to-the-wind shemlen relationship pacing right there.  No?

Aaaanyway.  The whole INTJ character concept brought that niggling point back to the forefront with me.  I know the type.  Hell, I'm married to the type.  Their brain in that sudden-onset situation is far too busy trying to analyze what the hell just happened, evaluate various response options, and weigh how Lavellan would likely respond to those responses to actually... act on it.  If that makes any sense.

As an aside: it would be one thing if you could deviate from the path in this instance and pick it up at a later point when you'd bonded a bit more, but (and hey, Bioware: I'm not fond of this) it seems if you ever don't pick the heart option immediately every time it appears in Solas' conversation, you're off his romance wagon forever.  ...which is how I boned my first playthrough without realizing it, by inquiring about something he'd said instead of responding with a flirt, which then disappeared as an option after his answer.  Boo.

I'm the same. I was 50/50 on Solas vs Cullen on my first play through... went with Cullen and it was nice, I liked it. But then saw the stinger, mentally kicked myself, then immediately started over for Solas and I haven't looked back. Honestly his romance scenes are so much better anyway--but maybe that's because I'm very much an introverted intellectual so he gives me all the tinglies. Solas4life.

Also I'm catching up on the thread so I have a few things:

Re: Solas being straight

I honestly think it fits. I like that this time we have strictly straight or gay characters, and just a lot more of them. It makes it feel a bit more real, whereas DA2 was just like "pick the one you like it don't matter". I think it gives him more characterization to make him straight. Like others have pointed out, I was getting a little sick of all elves being bi in this game so far. Plus, he's a wolf god, and even though the "wolves mate for life" bit isn't exactly true... well, I just think him being straight makes sense, even though I admit I may be bias.

I understand the complaint for males due to the story stuff, but I really think that's very minor, because 1) if you want to experience the story you could always roll female and 2) so far with DAI Bioware has not impressed me with making choices matter. The writing is excellent, don't get me wrong, but I was just incredibly miffed that, even though I romance Solas [a god], there's no way to recover the orb, he still leaves, he doesn't come back to explain... nothing.

Maybe this will change in DLC. I really hope that romancing him does open some options there. But learning about the Vallaslin? Eh... I think there will be other ways for a male to learn.

I think it was a combination of budget and his character. I've heard some complaints that the female elf romance animations with Cullen are sometimes a bit weird because of the height difference between human and elf females in the game. There's a pretty big gap between M/F elves as well IIRC. But...they made IB's romance work despite height differences. They probably could have done the same with Solas if they had really wanted to. So there could be a reason he only likes women related to story we haven't encountered yet (such as a pregnancy plot. Maybe we're gonna play pass-the-OldGodSoul I hope not), to character background that was left out (ancient elves were almost always straight - they did seem to be similar to Tevinter), or it could simply be that he was never conceptualized as bisexual. We'll probably never know why exactly.

Re: Solas break up

Okay so I fully admit that I'm probably just in denial, but I wanted to hear other people's takes on this. It was funny because, after the vallaslin scene, I didn't really think it was "over". I mean, he does kind of say as much, but I was just like... no way. (BTW I did the "Solas..." and the "I love you" options, as well as the "I believe in us" option which both amount to almost the same thing, though the "I love you" is absolutely heart breaking).

Ahem, anyway, I of course immediately run to Solas and ask if we can talk and he does the "Things will be clear" line.

So I'm thinking, we're not over. It's not over, he's just pulling away, right?

And then the end, and he's gone, and I'm like... *stares*

I constantly have to remind myself that they've broken up and that he didn't just disappear. It's extra difficult because I know why he did (or at least, more of why), and Lavellan has no idea. Depending on the dialog choices in scene three can really change how it comes off too. Sad puppy gets "vhenan" and "in another world", Sad/Angry gets "Tell me you don't care/I can't" -- both of those scream "I still have feelings for you but I'm doing this for other reasons!!" But the "banal vhenan" option is much more final -- he's very distant when he walks away. Then either way you get this banter  and it's clear as day that he didn't break up with her because of something she did: "She thinks it's because of her" implies that Cole knows that it's got nothing to do with her, and "You cannot heal this, Cole" implies he's not over the whole thing (though whether that is in reference to the current situation or the past I can't really decide).

It's probably maddening for Lavellan to know that there's something else going on but also know that Solas didn't trust her enough to tell her what it was.

I have been thinking how similar this feels to a real break-up. Complete with the denial that it's actually happening (have you seen how many "did I screw up Solas' romance somewhere" topics there were when the game came out) xD

As an ex-templar I imagine that made him even more concerned.

I adore you people. All of you. Every time I think I've gone completely around the bend over Solas and that surely, no one else is this crazy.... I come here and find that we're all this crazy

My Solfession of the Day:

What brought this on, you may ask? Noticing that my Trevelyan can't. stop. spending. time. with. Solas. In the Winter Palace it is impressive how many roundabout routes she would take just to stroll past him again. She loves Cullen, I love love the Cullenmance (it is not all sweetness and fluff, FWIW)... and yet that DAMN ELF IS TAKING UP HER HEADSPACE. I even headcanon that he's training her in the Fade and justifying it to Cullen as 'well, it's this mark and he's a rift mage so of course' and it's all very intense and intimate because she's carrying a piece of his power now and... and... and...

Very disappointing that if you don't flirt with him every time you're locked out of his romance. :/

Funny, for me it kinda made perfect sense that you have to pick those heart options right away especially since it is such a shocking moment. I feel like if you wait until the moment is gone he has time to overthink the situation and retreat ;)

I feel the same way too. It's actually really gratifying to get that dialogue and the sound his voice breaking just a bit when he tells Cole to back off. Just... gaaaah, such excellent voice acting to communicate so much with so little. Also Cole... "She's hurting, you're hurting, you don't need to be hurting/why can't I help you feel better" like a child caught between two parents, he wants to make it better but doesn't know how. It's clear he actually cares a lot about both Solas and Lavellan.

It's nice we get that at least.

Madrar, he could be INTP and thus more impulsive? Levellans flirting is obvious enough to make him sure she is flirting, safe feeling INTPs moves fast if they get the feels. And then the analyzing starts and things get complicated.

I think if there was a pregnancy plot associated with the romance, it would have to be canon that Solas and Lavellan slept together. Since it's up to the player, we can probably take that off the table with some certainty.

The whole having to flirt every time and kiss him fairly early in the relationship bothered me some. I think in the context of how little content he gets, it kind of makes sense that it had to be that way. I don't think his response was out of character though, given the way he kisses her every time he kisses her and how quickly he says, "I love you." He's really, really passionate under all that politeness and I would say he's also desperately lonely.

To be fair, apparently that is the same for Iron Bull's romance. If you didn't flirt with him in Haven apparently you can't tap him after. IDK if it's just a bug or not but I couldn't when I forget to do that and I only realized because someone else told me it was necessary.

This made me legit lol, because I refuse to do any of my story missions or talk to my LI when my husband is present, because I would never hear the end of it. He caught me crying once over a video game and our relationship has never been the same lol.

Much easier if I can be alone during my emotional gaming so that I can fully commit to it without Adam trying to have ME committed. Lol.
