Dalish elves have so far been depicted with American (possibly also Canadian and English? I can't remember the accent of every Dalish elf which appeared in DA:O - DA:O was before they had Welsh and Irish accents), Welsh and Irish accents. Brave is Scottish, the singer in that song has a Scottish accent. ^^

Oh I know. The Dalish are all over the map. This was the closest I could get. ;)

I dropped the first iteration of my Lavellan after 12-13 hours, and started over again.  You're going to spend well over 100 hours with the character if you're going completionist; IMO losing playtime is less important than making sure it's a character you can play for that long.

All too true. I'm currently struggling with wanting to continue a second Lavellan who is much older and more direct, even in combat, than my first one.... and the changes are interesting and fun and I selected a different voice for this PC and I HATE IT. I cannot stand the 'American' voice. So now I doubt I'll be able to make myself finish that run.

I'm going by cognitive function stackings rather than the stereotypical personality profile attached to the type. I think his dominant function is Ti not Ni, hence INTP.

Personality typing systems like MBTI aren't science, not even psychology. It's still an interesting thought exercise. :)

I agree. MBTI is fun, but not science by any stretch of the imagination. I've heard it compared to an elaborate Quizilla quiz, so I find it especially silly when people make their 'type' their identity.

Hey guys, little question: So, I've got my mage Taleyah Lavellan, who did this huge mistake regarding Leliana, so I will end up with crazy spymaster deluxe in the future. I still love her, but I recently started noticing all of the little mistakes in her face. But I already have around 20 hours of playtime with her, so I don't know if I should drop her or not. Or if she should end up as my 'canon' playthrough after all. I haven't even gotten the first Solas romance scene yet, ugh.

And then there is my new Quizzy, Lenalas, a warrior elven lady. I love her design and can't wait to play a tough lady that won't take 'no' for an answer. I end up loving her more and more, despite being in the Prologue still. She definitely looks less babyfaced than Taleyah does and I just can't imagine how much fun it will be to play someone that has no problems being over the top protective and routhless all at once.

...which Lavellan would you go with? Should I finish my first run and then do a completionist run with Lenalas? Ugh, so many decisions and possibilities! X_X

My Lavellan has a few mistakes with her face that bug me. But she's my cannon playthrough, so I'm just hoping that a character updater gets released sometime as dlc. And I have the crazy Leliana. So...from my experience, I love that playthrough, despite the flaws. I like that my cannon world state contains mistakes - all my other playthroughs tend to be overplanned, so its nice to have one that's all my "oops, I shouldn't have done that" moments in it.

Glad to know that I am not the only one with problems regarding finishing a run because you suddenly can't connect to your character anymore!

It just feels as if Taleyah's personality is all over the place. She's so ooc at time because of her strange set-up regarding choices at the beginning it's hardly fun anymore. I still love her name and intend to keep it for another character, though. xD

Thanks guys! I will definitely go with my new Lavellan now. Or make another new one once the Patch is fixed...I so want a mage playthrough.

Edit: Waiting for a character updater is a great thing, actually! I think I will rush through this playthrough, then, and make the next one my completionist playthrough. Drop that, I'm gonna go and roll two Lavellan's at the same time.

I actually met Sumalee Montano during a VA panel, and her natural speaking voice is just adorable.  But I'm having a hard time coming up with a PC who fits the female American voice for DA:I, so I'm probably never going to use it either.

I really love the male American voice, though.  The snark is less subtle and more "WTF did you actually just say to me?"  It's amazing with Adaar.

You just ruined my "psychology is science!!!11!!1" opinion with this sentence xDDD, but the thought about his dominant function is interesting, I'll think about it)))

I meant that:

1) personality typing is not science

2) psychology is science

3) if someone was going to assert that personality typing is science, they would try to assert it was science as in psychological science, but even though popular opinion would have it that psychology is one of the 'softest' sciences, it [psychology] is still too science-y to include personality typing.

Make sense?

I actually came up with my second Lavellan and shaped her around the American voice. It fits her well, but only because she's totally the warrior type. Short hair and all. But I wouldn't be able to roll any other kind of Lavellan with the American voice. It's a shame.

It totally is. "How the hell did I write/draw this?" Goes to ->. "This is fine! Publish/post it!"  I'm just hoping I remember to go back after I get my sleep to fix all the issues.

Hahah, my smut was more like "ALLLLLLLLLLLLL THE SEX". And then I post it, let people read it, and then pretend I never wrote it to begin with. lol.

*snip*

Oooh, such a pretty Lavellan!

I've got this *thing* about voiced PCs where I wind up identifying each voice really strongly with 1 PC.  Which basically limits me to 2 PCs in other voiced games, 4 in DA:I.  Though I'm probably only going to wind up playing 2 in DA:I anyway, since F!Lavellan and M!Adaar are the only ones for which I've got really well defined personalities.

Me too. That's why I went with the American voice for another Lavellan :(

My Lavellan uses the American voice. But then, my Lavellan is a strong, aggressive hardass, not a feminine, soft or weepy type.

My contribution to the Lavellan sad face campaign. Because I'm on my third round of romancing him and probably due for about 70 more. UGH. The entire romance is perfect. Aside from lack of closure.  :(

I liked the other voice for my Lavellan, but now that I'm rolling a Cadash I can't imagine any other voice fitting. If I ever roll a more aggressive Lavellan I'll used the American voice as well. Frankly I'd have liked it if they added a slight pitch modifier so we can keep the voice, but have some slight differences. No speed settings or extreme pitch options, as those would probably make it hard to fit the lips, but just a slightly higher or deeper voice for variety.

My 2nd playthrough, I did human rogue female, and I really wanted to go with the american accent. It just is so weird hearing my Lavellan's voice come out of this human. But I didn't know when they would fix the voice change bug for customizing Hawke (and technically they still haven't for xbone), so I stuck with the bristish accent.

I love that voice actress, but its just so weird hearing it from another character. I never had this problem with my different Hawkes and Shepards...maybe because they were all human? Or maybe I'm just more attached to my Lavellan.

I like the American voice! I think either is a legitimate option. When I rolled up my first Lavellan I used it because I wanted to differentiate the characters in my head (and not romance Solas again), I fully plan on going back to her too. I just wanted to do a little scrunchy elven Knight Enchanter first. :D Given how all over the map the Dalish accents are, it's easy to justify either from a roleplaying perspective.

Here she is.

Does anyone else want Eve Myles (Merrill's voice actress) to voice their Lavellan?  I use Alix Wilton Regan for mine, and it works OK for her.  I still think Eve Myles would be better XD

Mine is definitely angry later. Tearing her bookshelves and desk apart with magic kind of angry. Possibly sending all flying over the balcony at some point.  ^_^ Cass even drops in and offers to stab something.

Then a lot of alcohol with Dorian and Iron Bull.

Which likely ends in a drunken bout of setting Solas' desk on fire. She may or may not regret that later.

If/when we get to meet Solas again, I hope our dialog wheel options are

1. Solas!!!!

2. [Hug Him]

3. [Slap Him]

Special. [Fireball!]
