Holy hell.   I just made it through the bulk of the kink meme and Fen'harel take me indeed.

 

Weird thing, though- and I'm kind of curious what you guys think.  There is a lot of marking going on.  

 

Is it the wolf thing?   'Cause aside from that, it seems like something that would be a huge hang-up for Solas, and not in a good way.   The undertone of... well, possession... would drive him up a wall.   Maybe I'm reading too much into his character or their final scene, but it seemed like one of the things that drives him away wasn't just that he had Serious Business To Deal With, but also a determination that you remain free and unfettered.   ....even from him.  

 

Thoughts?

There's no reason it can't be both kindness and pragmatism, depending on Solas' relationship with the quizzy.  Regardless of how he feels, he needs the Inquisition to succeed against Corypheus to get his orb back.  If he also cares about or respects the quizzy, he may feel like s/he as an individual deserves a seat of power like Skyhold, independent of its utility for the Inquisition.

 

Yeah, I didn't mean it had to be one or the other, necessarily. Pragmatism would be the... base reason, I guess is a good way to put it. No matter how he feels about the Inquisitor, he needs them. And then kindness may co-exist with the pragmatism if he's growing attached to the Inquisitor.

For my 2 cents...it's the kink meme.  It's first and foremost for anonymous kinks, and I'd be lying if I said *I* didn't find the idea of dominant, godmode Solas extremely hot

 

Whether the fics line up with in-game personality isn't always a concern on kmeme, and that's fine.  Just look at all the Fenders fills and prompts from DA2.  Garrus got a lot of marking in his kmeme fills too, and he's the cuddliest, sweetest LI ever.

I think its just a fantasy. You find 'marking' in a lot of fandoms. Its so common that that I don't even bat my eyes at it anymore. 

 

Some people like the fantasy of being dominated. Most people realize that in the real world that's not appropriate, but in the realm of fiction...its just like any other fetish, more or less. We could probably speculate endlessly on the various causes for it, but I'd say its mostly harmless. People like what they like.

 

It definitely isn't for me, but it is what it is. I don't think it really has anything to do with Solas as a character.

About VA, I'm one of the freaks who preferred a mute PC, even Alix freaks me out. Give me silence or soft spoken, both of them grates on my nerves.

 

I love Alix's voice for my Lavellan. Her range is awesome, and she does a fantastic job in displaying emotion. 

 

I found his look to be more on the side of calculating, but not cold. Closer to a "What will come next?" rather than a "I have them in the palm of my hands". Like he was considering our next move before anyone made it. Then again, I'm also very much on board the "he was genuinely concerned about the state of the world" train, so I'm more inclined to believe in him being a good person. A mix of kindness and necessity. 

 

I very much agree. I've watched the scene only three times now, but I think he's definitely trying to figure the Inquisitor out. Watching expressions, intentions, actions, etc. The entire Dawn Will Come and Skyhold sequence (GORGEOUS btw), he's moving the "story" forward, and he is curious about them. He's also concerned because what if that display goes to their head? People are approaching them kneeling and hands up in prayer like she is a prophet. That's dangerous. Also, she's just survived a horrible ordeal, and having all that responsibility? I bet he's concerned too.

 

Terrwyn finds the whole thing unnerving, and wants nothing to do with it. However, she also secretly enjoys the respect she is given...she's a freaking elf, and has never been in a position of power or respect. That terrifies her, though, so she fights to keep herself grounded - and succeeds, luckily. XD

 

 

 

...This just makes me want a Solas DLC even more. Even my non-romancers deserve a chance to see their missing friend again *misty eyes*

 

 

Anais got attached to Solas really fast, probably because he had some sense in what was going on, so he was her advisor on the side. Plus, hearing him talk was a bonus.

He is a much less suave version of the pair of them. All the sass but none of the good looks and sophistication (he always has a stupid grin on his face. But after so many hours with him, I am so in love with him and his stupid face ). I think that's why I'm loving his romance with Dorian so much. So much sassing and bickering mixed in with moments of real love between the pair of them. Although he'll probably sod off back to Tevinter and my quizzy will be alone, again. I've noticed a lot of the romance have a sense of 'for now' about them.

I honestly thought that Solas would find him a pain though, so I am surprised and all fuzzy with joy for the respect he has for him.

I'll need to make a Lavellan I love as much as my Trevelyan. My Solas romance was a bit of a rush and I picked options I was not too happy with. But I'll save it for after I've done my Hard mode and Nightmare mode runs. Aha. Or at least attempted my Hard and Nightmare mode runs.

 

I am at least getting a bit more banter with the patch now. I'm on PS4 so I haven't had all the problems the PC players are having. Although Iron Bull did keep saying the same line about 4 times while wandering around the Oasis place. I get it, abandoned caves are creepy...

 

I got to say that I love your signature lol I got that banter last night while I was at the Hissing Wastes. I laughed so loud my Hubby got startled by it. 

 

Speaking of which I took a shot of my Lavellan and Solas there.

I appreciate dom!Solas in small doses...but I hope for more "in character" portrayals as well where he is just...hesitant and passionate like he is in game.

I actually met Sumalee Montano during a VA panel, and her natural speaking voice is just adorable.  But I'm having a hard time coming up with a PC who fits the female American voice for DA:I, so I'm probably never going to use it either.

 

I really love the male American voice, though.  The snark is less subtle and more "WTF did you actually just say to me?"  It's amazing with Adaar.

Because it's Zevran!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started a male Trevelyan and went American because his voice is so damn good.

The patch actually broke my game and I couldn't make new characters rofl. But that was mostly my end, After I updated my drivers the problem stopped.

 

Im not sure if I have any character I'm super attached to yet. My current one is probably my favorite, as she's more self-assured and confident than my other characters but my first one it was like "Mythal's ass you think i'm WHAT?" "You want me. A dalish elven mage to lead the inquisition? Are you trying to get me assassinated?" My second one was more innocent/sweet and tried to do what she thought was best. But this one? Its a good thing she's not romancing Solas. She'd probably

hunt Solas down and drag him back to Skyhold by his ears to have him stand trial because if we can make a guy who threw a goat at skyhold stand trial or a body in a box then who cares! woo!

No. All it did was repair my issue with CTD's that forced me to reboot my computer @-@

I'm also of the mind that he is a genuinely good person. Pretty much everything he does reinforces that. He's calculating, yes. And he's willing to make sacrifices, but so must everyone who's in a position of power. Cullen probably needs to make sacrifices every day as commander of the Inquisition. So does the Inquisitor. And even if he sees the sacrifices as necessary, that doesn't mean that he doesn't care. That's the whole problem. He cares so much and can't let go.

Yeaaah, I think it's people letting their "omg he's fen'harel" headcanons get away from them. I never understood the possessiveness thing that people keep including in fic. He ended the relationship because, more than anything, Solas loves the Inquisitor and doesn't want her to be bound to a path she did not choose. She had no idea what she was getting into by pursuing him, and he feels he can't tell her, so all he can do is end their relationship. That is as far away from possessiveness as you can get.

 

There's a cultural fixation on the idea that possessiveness and jealousy is romantic. In the "I love them so much anyone else looking/having them makes me crazy" sense. That's why so many people see the Phantom of the Opera as an epic romance. But the way Solas shows his love for the Inquisitor is, imo, much more poignant and caring than getting jealous. He values her freedom over his own feelings, over his own happiness.

 

So, yeah, the "marking" thing and the possessiveness thing is probably put in there to make the relationship more spicy I guess. And because wolves. Not personally a fan. I don't think it fits with his character.

My only problems prior to the patch was a lack of banter and the occasional conversation stop. Particularly scenes during the Grey Warden Arc. Long pauses of me hitting square, trying to get the conversation to move on and then ending up skipping a bunch when it decided to work. Bah. I'll have to see if it happens again when I get there with my hard mode character. She is even weirder looking than Rufio. I'm hoping her weird face will grow on me as well 

 

Ah, I remember what I was going to ask now. For those of you who drank from the well. Did Solas say anything while you were in the 'drinking' cutscene? Did he care at all? I'm interested to see if it's a path I want to take with my future Lavellan rerun.

Dorian's was perfect for the type of relationship he and my Trevelyan have.

I think people also mix up passion with possessiveness, and Solas is full to bursting with passion whenever he kisses the Inquisitor. The two are not always intertwined, however. But yeah I think it's mostly because wolves. And his reaction to that one flirt line if you're a mage. Him being Fen'Harel and admitting that he was cocky and arrogant in the past probably factors in too. Of course you would expect the arrogant god with possible trickster elements to be all controlling and dominant.

 

I think getting Solas into bed would be more of a process than most fic writers make it out to be. He's initially hesitant about everything and that's a lot different than kissing, especially when he's certain that the relationship can't become anything long-term. And I agree that he would be hesitant about tying the Inquisitor down to anything, which is probably why neither of them are certain exactly what they are together during the final romance scene. Solas would probably avoid any conversation that tried to hammer down what their relationship is.

 

Not that I'm complaining, though! I have nothing but love and respect for fanfiction writers and I'm immensely enjoying what I'm reading so far!

I think he did say something? But I think it was basically just him kinda frantically calling out, "Inquisitor! Inquisitor!" I'd have to load up my Temple save and see if it was anything more special than that.

 

What Dorian says is super cute though. I can't wait to hear it with my Adaar who's romancing him. XD
