Solas is a tragic character that has the most subtle manpain I've EVER seen. It's pretty amazing!  He's always so in control of himself that even when he outright tells you that it's been a long time since he's been able to trust someone, you only really see that loneliness in how passionate he is towards a romanced Lavellan. He kisses you like it's the last time he'll ever be able to every single time. 

 

And it hits home when you see his greatest fear. I don't know about you all, but I actually didn't see that coming. He hides his sadness pretty well for a video game guy. Usually the manpain hits you like a truck. Lookin' at you, Anders and Fenris and Blackwall. 

 

God, that's the first time I've seen someone describe his kisses that way. It hurts. The feels.

I was totally OK with Anders (my Hawke's LI) not being there, what with how he went absolutely INSANE in Legacy.

 

As for the others, yeah... I can understand how it would be confusing that Hawke wasn't with them.

Seriously. Hawke just left Fenris at home and he didn't follow.  It's not like they didn't have access to the voice actor.  I'm firmly gonna ignore that Fenris wasn't there and believe he's just in the Tavern.

Blackwall's greatest fear made me feel pretty bad for him, too.  I know a lot of people don't like him, but I genuinely sympathized for him and his strong sense of regret.

Solas's of course (especially from the perspective of his romance) is downright tragic.  Poor guy.  I just want to reach through my computer screen and hug him.

Yeah that was a pretty weak explanation. Especially with how determined Fenris is. Sneaking off in the dead of night was definitely in-character for my Hawke to try to do, though.

 

And am I the only one who was determined to keep Hawke alive, but not for Hawke's sake? I can deal with the death of one of my characters but I just couldn't do that to Fenris. It would break my heart! Thankfully Alistair was safe as king so poor Stroud had to eat it. I also couldn't do it because GOSH have you seen Varric's reaction if Hawke doesn't make it out? That was the only scene in the game I was actually in tears over.

Right!? RIGHT!? Also you can't convince me Fenris didn't haul a** to Weisshaupt once Hawke disappears. No way Hawke just "disappears" and Fenris is just sitting quietly in Kirkwall worrying about her. He's gonna do something about that nonsense.

@kalalala - I hear you. I was never so relieved that my canon playthrough was Queen CousCous. Alistair vs Hawke would have wrecked me.

Stroud was useless. He couldn't even finish his own sentences. I had no Idea what was going on because he wouldn't say anything.

So far I've sacrificed Stroud and Loghain to save Hawke.  I'm not so sure if I will ever go for a Warden!Alistair run.  I can't.

 

I'm going to sacrifice Hawke in my current playthrough, to save Alistair. It's turning into my world state where my protagonists all die.

 

Plus, maybe she'll finally get laid in heaven (chaste marriage to Sebastian).

I couldn't do that to Merrill and Varric. I actually had Alistair as a Warden when I found out about the choice and changed it because, while I'm willing to let him die in other playthroughs, I just couldn't do it on my first/canon playthrough.

Varric and Fenris were the reasons. Both of them have lost their families, most of their friends...lots of personal tragedy. And to pile on one.more.death that they both will likely feel they could have/should have prevented! Ah I'm getting so worked up -- I had no idea I harbored this many feels for Fenris x Hawke still! What's gonna happen if something goes wrong with Solavellan? I won't be able to handle it!!

Stroud failed to lead the Wardens during round one. I didn't really trust his leadership abilities.

 

Plus, there's still Alistair, the Warden, and most of the guys from Awakening running around. And Weisshaupt...it's not like they were really lacking for leadership.

I'm about to start a play through with Warden Alistair.  I used a Male Hawke so that I am not so connected to the character.  There's no way I'd ever save Stroud, so it's always been a non-choice for me.

if Alistair had the OGB with Morrigan, and you do the Ball quest before finishing off Here Lies the Abyss, Alistair meets Kieran and talks to Morrigan.  Killing a Male Hawke just so I can have this happen.

 I could just watch it on youtube, but I'd rather experience it firsthand.

Yeah I never got the "the Wardens need a leader" argument for this particular choice. There are other Wardens around besides Stroud/Ali/Loghain, right? And what about Wardens in countries other than Orlais/Fereldan?

Whoa, I was just discussing with a friend about Solas’ fear and I made myself so sad again. Look at how tragic this elf is. Because his fear is so… rational, I think. So much of it is a self-fulfilling prophecy and he knows it. There’s no way he can’t see it. He would shut everyone away, and yet desperately he wants someone. At least, someone. I mean, for someone to have that as their BIGGEST fear, it means no small amount of fear in there. 

 

 

His conversations with you, about the inquisition as a force, his talks with Sera about leading a rebel organization, about betrayal and how only allies can do it… All of this paints a man who really cannot bring himself to trust, who really can’t bring down those mental walls, and yet who desperately, dreadfully wishes to do so. 

 

 

I’ll be here in my corner.

Augh, my heaaaaart! Dammit, I just want something to go right for him. For once. It's even worse when you remember that, for perhaps a few months, he was truly, genuinely happy. Probably for the first time in a long time. I don't mind making some of my Wardens do the Ultimate Sacrifice, but I think Solas ending up dying alone, his greatest fear coming true, would destroy me.

I never really understood why someone had to stay behind. Should have all just run like hell.
