So what's with the depictions of Solas with hair?
I started a new playthrough... Told myself that even though I was making another female elf, I was going to stay away from Solas until we get DLC. Of course, that didn't happen.
And I'm glad I didn't stay away. I just heard some new Solas dialogue, when you first start getting to know him in Haven:

I've been trying to start another playrthrough (even though I'm not done with my second..), but I keep crashing, and after spending so much time getting everything right I'm just finding it way too frustrating atm..

Whaaaaaat? How do you get this extra dialogue? D:
My theory for this is that,

Yeah, I like that.

I think it's approval-based--I got it with my qunari mage.

I did a lot of things in the Hinterlands before I opened up this tree. I played as though they spent a while in the Hinterlands because it's just more efficient that way instead of traveling back and forth to Haven, which in turn probably earned a lot of approval along the way (I haven't been looking at the approvals for this playthrough). After VR, and meeting the mages, I opened up the tree and that's what came up... So I'm guessing if his approval rate is high enough, he'll say that.

That really sucks! I'm glad I won't get the PC version for a while.
At least Solas doesn't go flying over when he gets punched like Dorian does. I can deal with his scene much better than Dorians D: he at least stands his ground and fights back with his words. Dorians just breaks my heart.
I wonder who else gets hit. I can't imagine you punch Bull. Although a dwarf trying it would make for interesting watching..
D: I didn't know you could punch Dorian--why would anybody? He's a sweetheart!

I think I'll headcanon it as, if he's talking to a non-romance character, that he belieeeeeeves in the Inquisitor. And for a female elf, he's come to fancy her (and believes in her, too, of course).

Ahh! Good to know. I tend to exhaust all the dialogue options straight away with Solas because he's just so irresistable. If holding off for a bit unlocks more dialogue, I shall do that in future.
I'll just chime in a little bit when it comes to playing a "bad" character, this is my field of interest atm as I'm partly writing about players as moral agents in computer games. There's several ways to approach a rpg and combinations of these too ofc. Many of us self insert, self insert and improve or play with being someone completely different from your normal self. The nice thing about doing "bad" characters is that you get to know the dark side of yourself in a really safe environment, you can save and reload or just go with it. It let's us play with moral choices and ethics in a way you couldn't otherwise. If you play a "good" character you explore your preferred choices, which is also good. So any way of rp'ing the game is good for you, but a lot of us, myself included self insert to such a degree that choosing renegade feels wrong. To me, that makes computer games so amazing, it triggers self awareness and may even fine tune your moral sense if there is such a thing.
*slap on some Heidegger and thesis done* or maybe not...

A friend of mine loves going renegade if that is an option and says he reinforces his self image of never being able to do anything like it in rl, and I believe him. I can make Vivienne dislike me in this game for instance, but I tend to go for the redeemer path, no executions or letting my companions kill anyone. I let Solas kill the mages in one save, but it felt kind of icky.

You're asking that question on this forum?
The two most asked questions are "Can we romance it?" and "Can we kill it?", but they're usually not in that order.

I tend to wait for most dialogue options (mostly because I'm lazy after the first complete playthrough), and some of them do change depending on your approval.

It's a "safe environment" yes, but what happens if you enjoy the "dark side" too much?
That's something that should be researched, but I have a feeling it will support the null hypothesis in most cases.

As I'm a (wanna-be)philosopher, thankfully I may stay in the realm of theory, but there was a paper published not long ago that claimed violent people seek out violent media, it may reinforce your twisted sides but games will not teach you violence. Bodily, computer games teach you to push buttons on a keyboard or a controller, they do not teach you to kill. I support this, but "normal" people will behave "normal". As long as the enjoyment of "evil" is contained to games, I don't think it poses a problem either. Sometimes being bad is just plain fun and that's fine.
I wonder when do you suppose we might hear about the first story dlc, christmas?

my issue when it comes to playing 'bad' or 'evil' characters is that it basically is just crazy pyscho. Not to mention most people tend to not view themselves as evil, Loghain thought what he was doing was in protection of Fereldan as an example.

They come from the dragon age art book.
I like both options, personally! I think having Solas with hair is a good marker for when this is supposed to be Fen'Harel-Solas from the old days.

It's very interesting to read your perspective on this. Thanks for sharing! ![]()

I'm glad they didn't go with the other more masculine facial types though. It's too typical.
I let him kill the mages. My card was still the white wolf even when he had left forever. So kinda hopeful things might not be so bad.
I'm really hoping that this is not a bug, though. ![]()
Re: freckles: Why does everyone think having freckles means you have to be a redhead? I have freckles and I'm a natural blonde. And I don't see why brunettes couldn't have them either.
I have a really hard time picturing Solas with hair... but if I had to, I think it's white or white-blond, mostly because I see his wolf form as also being white.
Okay, so this might have already been said and in this case I hope you can forgive me, I just have all this stuff in my head after finishing the game and a lot of thoughts and one thing especially that I noticed after seeing this clip about
Well and then there's also this:
Okay. So now that I wrote it all down I'm slightly more confused than before
I hope it's not the tenth version of the same old same old, if it is please forgive me, I checked the FAQ and last pages in this forum and didn't find anything specifically related to the Calling yet this thread moves faaaast so it's totally possible that all of this has been said and debunked before.
...I'm gonna go now and think about reasons not to write Solas fics
