The eyes are nearly perfect for Solas, I'll admit. Rest needs a bit of work, haha. *hisses at the mouth-breathing*

Just slowly add on some ears haha, shave him bald, chisel those cheekbones a bit more then Perfect.

But nobody found him out, did they?  His mask wasn't entirely seamless, but it was a flawless execution.

That's as much because the game never gave us an option to say, "hey dude, I have this hunch about you..." Which I did, part way through the game. With everything together, the comment about "who are your people" after the Orlesian ball and specifically after events that happened in the Temple of Mythal, I don't for a moment believe my Lavellan wasn't aware there was something else going on about Solas. She might be of the idea that he's like Abelas, an ancient elf before she'd go so far as to think he's any sort of god figure, but she did end up meeting a god anyway so even that would not make her fall over gasping in shock.

Other companions might have felt something was off, too, and idly commented on it like Bull does, but if anyone would really think something like that about Solas it would almost have to be a Lavellan. Especially one that romanced him. Especially after the temple.

Come to think of it, that thought and Cole's comment about how she "thinks it was her" would make all sorts of sense to my Lavellan. "He's an elf from another time. I'm a nobody from today whose only real value is a glowing hand. My culture looks childish and stupid to him. Of course we can't be together." Fits the "embarrassed" part too. I think she ends up feeling more foolish than anything about the whole relationship, but his comment at the end about it being real probably helped. She'll believe that much for them.

I live in a very Amish area (the Wal-marts here have buggy parking) and it's very odd. They have a very fascinating mix of cultures- it is very Dalish now that I think about it. They very much look down (not all, but many) on the "English" (what they call people who are not Amish), but feel free very often to adopt conveniences that they wish, like sneakers and coach purses. lol.

There are many different...well, versions, of Amish too, even though what we're grouping together for this conversation would likely offend them all. Mennonites, Amish, New Order, Old Order, Beachy, Old German, German Baptists...and the things they take from the "English" might differ depending on what group they belong to or which region they are from.

Some in a group near us might be okay with wearing pastel dresses, but some say that is going too far and you can only wear black. Some say you can have backs on the seat of your buggy, some three miles down the road say you can't.

Mennonites can have tv and drive cars, but in some areas the car should be black. Less flashy. Some Amish who I have worked with can use a computer better than I can and in jobs use modern items daily but do not at home.

They have such different rules now that the original Anabaptist culture has eroded except in the strictest of districts and even then who really knows.

It's really rather fascinating.

Honestly, I sat down partway through the game and had a convo with my husband about how I was nearly sure Solas was more than he let on. That he was an ancient, immortal elf or something similar. Well, I was close. *shrugs* Also:

Personally, I had to headcanon that my Lavellan and him had a "don't ask questions" deal about them both. She could tell if she tried to pry, he would completely shut off. But he was suspicious from the get-go.

I think you hit the nail in the head. Plus she is mortal.. like an ant or a butterfly, her life is to brief for an immortal to care about.. At least she thinks so

And maybe even Solas thinks like that. He knows he is going to lose her in "the blink of an eye" for him so he shuts her out of his life to give Lavellan a chance to find another chance at love with a mortal like her

Meanie egg elff :(

Different kind of hiding in plain sight. He doesn't have to be unassuming for it to work. In fact giving something for people to latch onto prevents them from asking questions about other things. They're so caught up in his intelligence and Mage abilities that they all forget to look into the boring stuff like where he's from and how he knew when to show up at Haven.

Except they don't, they do ask. They just accept what he says like Cassandra (when his excuse to "How did you know when to show up?" is "I was in the neighborhood") or Leliana knew he was lying all along and just decided to investigate him after he left with a "whoops, Inquizzie my bad!". I think there's a codex entry on how the town name he said he was from wasn't there any longer and hadn't been for a long time.

I don't know. There's stuff with Solas where I just want to whip out Sarcastic!Hawke and go "really, we're both intelligent people". But I can't. I like him for his flaws. He works well, he's fun to have around, and that's really all that matters. His fatal flaws are what make him interesting.

Yeah, everybody around him pretty much was a dumbcluck.  But since everybody was, I kind of translate that into him being good at what he does?  Plot devices and all, y'know.

That having been said, because my mage Lavellan was such an elven history buff, I do believe that she absolutely thought he was an ancient elf who had been in uthenera.  This both dazzled and frightened her, so that's why she never pushed it with him.  She just fell completely head over heels in love with him and his stories.  Well, she fell in love with his everything.

Oh, and both she and I both believe that uthenera can be taught, especially if one is a mage.  Yes, somniari are rare, but even if it caused her death, my Lavellan would beg him to teach her.

So yeah, hamfisted BioWare sequels = will not buy.

I think it's best for him to change when he sees the consequences of his actions. I think it's going to be unbelievable if Lavellan can just talk him into it.

I agree. For some reason I believe Solas would screw things up again (he's really unlucky XD).

Think when he watch what mistake he has made again it's time for Lavellan to show up and have some serious talk (or a punch in his face!)

I felt much the same way. A sort of unspoken understanding, since it seems a lot of what they thought or felt was like that just by the interactions and romance scenes he has. Which is why he doesn't entirely shy away with an answer for the rare times she does probe a bit deeper with the questions we have the option to ask.

As soon as I get more likes, I blow them all in 10 minutes :/ Oops.

So I've begun reading the novels to up my lore game. The Stolen Throne is painfully cliche. :( Very disappointed so far, but oh well. On a slightly more related note, apparently elves have better night vision than humans do in the universe. In case anyone wants to use that detail in their smutty fanfic.

Fade baby comment.
No pregnancy for me, no thank you. Lol. I can't wrap my head around the fascination with being left as a single parent because your significant other left you. I like my freedom and little parasic-- I mean gifts from God are unwelcome when I'm emotionally scarred from abandonment and a war leader of a powerful and respected organization.
On that note, how do you think birth control works in Thedas? Something like moon tea from ASOIAF or like seabane from Graceling? Maybe a magical condom? Oh my, my imagination is getting away from me.

Friend fiction haha.
I'll admit I've never been too hot about fan fiction. When I was a lot younger I read a Hermoine/Draco rape fan fic that didn't give proper age restrictions/warnings. Needless to say it really freaked me out. Solas and his fans are just getting to me though XD.

Yes, thank you! I always thought it was really weird that so many women like the idea of "well he's gone but at least I got a baby". Sorry if that's your thing, I'm not trying to offend, but to me it's just unrelatable. I think Lavellan being pregnant with Solas's child would be about the worst thing ever on so many levels (obviously just my opinion).

As for the birth control... I'm sure it can be done magically because why not, and they probably have some herbs and stuff too, seeing as alchemy exists as a thing.

On this note too, am I the only one whose headcanon does not have Lavellan and Solas sleeping together? I see Solas as much more of a slow chase, and I never got the feeling that they did the deed (I see how it can be read both ways though). Plenty of kissing and make out sessions, for sure, but no sex. Even when I chose the quip about "You're just being grim and fatalistic to get into my pants" and he responds "that's just an enjoyable side benefit" I see that more as my Lavellan teasing that she really wishes he would get into her pants already, and he's playing along like yea, eventually. (And then turns around and breaks her heart, damn you again Solas!)

Just finished the game with Solas romance. It was an excellent story. Unfortunately I was suffering from having basically no banter so I missed a lot of the really cool background stuff. Oh well. I'm glad to see Cole comments on you and Solas breaking up. It was really odd in my game because there were no conversation options and nobody said anything. Still, awesome character.

I had the banter bug, I don't know if it's fixed but I did read a post about changing your audio settings away from "TV" -- well mine was on "Home Audio" but I changed it to "Headphones" and then I started getting A LOT more banter than before. My first playthrough of 80+ hours I probably heard banter about 10 times before changing this setting. Now I think my game is pretty normal, I hear banter maybe every 30 minutes or so.

Uggg... I was never able to talk with Solas about the break-up scene after it. I never got the "what about us" option. I wonder what that was about.

You only get the option if you do a "friendly" break up I believe. I did the options with the "I don't want to lose you" and then "I love you" and "I'm not giving up" or whatever it is, and both of those offered the "Let's talk about us". But when I played through with the "You have got to be kidding me" option, the break up was uglier and then I didn't get the option to ask "What about us" -- I think because then the break up is way more final, whereas the other options leave it "open" like your Lavellan won't believe it.

Re: Gifts: I think my Lavellan would also make him a gift, but instead of slipping it in his pocket, would likely just leave it on his table when he's not around.

About the whole not noticing that something is off with Solas, I posted this as part of a much larger post more than a hundred pages back X)

Some random thoughts about Lavellan being clueless (and other Inquisitors for that matter)
So Lavellan… your boyfriend is an ancient Elven “god” and you didn’t notice?
Lavellan: What!? I had no idea!!!
Really? His convenient timing/arrival? Super knowledge about everything to do with Ancient Elves (it was the fade!), and the fact he was actually called the Dread Wolf by Nightmare didn’t tip you off?
Lavellan *pouty face*: The cute scare above his eyebrow distracted me…
Of course it did… now just explain that to your clan.
I mean really! Lavellan (and Inquisitor friends) never asked him personal questions/was never thrown off by his elusive answers.
Lavellan: Hey Solas—
Solas: My travels in the fade
Lavellan: But what about--
Solas: The fade
Lavellan: That doesn’t make sense--
Solas: THE FADE!!!!!!
I think this same nitpick can also be put on the Blackwall romance.
Point is, Leliana you’re fired, go do your divine thing, try not to assassinate too many people and find me a better spymaster.Side note—Where are you Sandal!?!? I’ve looked everywhere!!!! I need to see you, Cole, and the Redcliffe storyteller have a conversation!!!!!

Which is why he doesn't entirely shy away with an answer for the rare times she does probe a bit deeper with the questions we have the option to ask.

I agree.

In my writting I even put it as:

“You do this for your benefit, not mine. We stand on opposite sides of the battlefield and what? Do you expect me to rest easy, to do nothing? Do you expect me to trust you?”

The questions went unanswered, of course, what could he possibly say? He had taught her to mistrust over and over and it had been a lesson she had never really needed. They were alike in that regard; they had a relationship built on a neutral ground of secrets, a truce of not to pry. And it had ended as they both had expected it to end, even if the timing of it had been a surprise.

Yet, it still hurt to say it. She wondered if it hurt to hear it.

Yes, let me shamefully quote here my fanfiction, but I felt this particular part fit the conversation. It's entirely possible that, for the inquisitor at least, she was trying to just put the puzzles pieces together by herself, playing the game or afraid to lose him.

What would your Lavellans give Solas?

I feel like my Lavellan would give him something she made herself--if I want to be really mean to him, a tiny and intricately carved wolf statuette that she slips into the pocket of his robes.  He doesn't realize it's there until after he leaves.

My Lavellan gives him a complete tea set.  'It seemed like a funnier and better idea when I saw it in the market.'

I'm starting to think there might be a reason why Sandal wasn't in this game. If anyone was going to blow Solas' cover, It'd be him. I think that when we get our DLC or expansion (that cliffhanger has me convinced that we are at least going to get something) and stuff is revealed to the Inquisitor, Sandal is probably going to be there as well. That weird little dwarf knows what's up.

Edit: I also love Dagna to bits and pieces, so I'm totally fine with the lack of Sandal this time around.

@amarnthe about Solas smexy time. I definitely imagine my Lavellan and Solas having sexual relations XD I mean they're both adults, why not? You could say it would be Solas trying to protect Lavellan from future heartbreak because of their intimacy but he already told her he loved her. There's really no going back from that. Also, Solas has like zero self-control, I'm sure all my Lavellan had to do was get him back up into her room and *evil thoughts*. Hehe. So I don't think there's any real reason for them not to be doing it, nor would I say is it out of character.

I got the sense that the inquisitor was at least partially on to Solas? Certain lines you could choose to say, particularly on the romance path [or as a fellow elf] leaned that direction.

[ At least about being an ancient elf. I don't think anyone suspected who he actually was. ]
