(Btw, you are all lovely to chat with, putting that out there! In some of the threads I get to intimidated to talk.)

I mostly lurk in the different threads, but everyone here is nice and light hearted. Some of the other threads can get so serious. Some people can take things way too serious - looks of character, feeling slighted because "I can't romance character X" etc. It's nice in here.

It's the power of Solas

Yeah, I always get the awkward 'Hows school going' and 'you got many exams to do' questions from complete strangers. The best ones though is going into a convenience store during the day, getting suspicious stares from the owners, and then being asked if I should be out of school at that time... *facepalm*

But there's always the added bonus of not having to pay adult prices for things \o/

Cheater! But seriously, that's hilariously amazing.

Anyway, back to dat Solass  I really can't see them stopping him being a romance just because of his age. Wouldn't make sense.

Praise the Solass!

mPHLGIF.gif

And the only self-inserting I've ever really done is that of my personality into the main character, at least for the very first run throughs (disregarding nonsense runs and so on).

I can see why some younger fans might feel weird about the age. When you're around 20 (or younger), the difference a couple years make is huge. Also, their dad's can be that age. There's also the perception that you're supposed to have your whole life set and have figured out who you are supposed to be, etc. etc. Of course, those of us who are done with college/university know that's not true (post-grad panic, amirite? What am I even doing...?).

Post-25 or 30, the number matters less than the perceived maturity. It's not a matter of "oh, I still watch cartoons and play video games, and like stupid puns, I must be immature!" If that's true, then every animator is a 12 year old, haha. It's more, I think, in how you handle situations. That's partly why when you're older, that angsty drama teen romance you used to love suddenly seems awfully lame and the characters are idiots.

Self Inserting: I've never really done that. Games let me be someone else. That said, my characters tend to have close to my sense of morality, and if possible, my snark. I don't like playing jerk-asses, even if it's just role-playing. I feel bad.

I feel odd welcoming new people because I'm new myself, but welcome! Seems pretty chill here. Sometimes there's huffiness when we get off-topic (which happens, it can get boring discussing the same speculations based on no evidence again and again), but it's all good.

I personally like the maturity of older guys, it's a bit shallow but they seem less dudebro-party to me. Though I'm a bit of an old soul... So Solas' personality really speaks to me. I hope if he is a LI, he's romantic and sentimental.
.....also that I can tease him about his wrinkles. >w> (Btw, you are all lovely to chat with, putting that out there! In some of the threads I get to intimidated to talk.)

Now I'm trying to picture dude bro party Solas:

Inquisitor: Solas? I thought you didn't normally go for taverns?

Solas: I don't. The Bull grabbed me while I was in the Fade and I woke up here.

Inquisitor: Allow me to buy you a drink then. I've yet to meet *fun* Solas.

Solas: I don't think you or anyone in the Fade is ready for fun Solas.

I can't play jerks either.  I know some people have their Most Terrible Person Ever playthroughs, and more power to 'em, but that sucks the enjoyment out of it for me because then I just sit there feeling terrible. I had to wait to unlock the Reaver spec until you could just buy it in Awakening, because I could. not. taint. the ashes. It helped that I rarely play warriors, so I didn't feel a big sense of urgency about getting it anyway.  I don't really self-insert either, but my characters usually have at least some of my snark.  It's just more fun that way!

Age has never bothered me. Even from a young age, I found myself more interested in older men. Probably a maturity thing, as I matured incredibly quickly. I viewed most guys my age as brothers more than potential mates.

I'm currently 29. My husband is 42. We've been very happily married for 7 years come this October. He's 13 years older than me, which may seem strange for some, but not really for me (my grandparents had a 10 year difference).

So, needless to say, "older" love interests don't make me balk. Granted, I'm closer to a middle age now, I suppose, but I still felt the same way back when I was in my teens and early adulthood, so that's sort of where I was going with that story, really.

As far as how we play, my first playthrough is generally a self-insert. I style someone similar to me in looks and make the decisions I, myself, feel I would make in that setting. Other playthroughs after that will explore actual role-playing characters and choices I wouldn't necessarily make, although I've yet to really do a full on "evil" playthrough of anything. Just can't quite stomach it. Best I can do is an incredibly pragmatic, bit of a jerkass play-through and that's about it. LOL

So, I finally finished my Solas sketch I was working on. ;w; It took me so long to get everything looking correct, but in the end I think it turned out ok! Once I relax a bit I'll try to finish it but though I'd share it with you lovely people the WIP in the mean time!

Yeah, I can't seem to find 'evil' playthroughs fun.  At all.  I just end up feeling guilty and hating myself.  I did prefer aggresive!Hawke over the rest, because she was such a badass (and it was the only incarnation of that voice actress I could stand, personally), but even then I ultimately took the 'good' route in every quest and was nice to all my companions (except Merrill, sometimes - but it was tough love rather than cruelty). In Origins I found it easier to justify playing more pragmatic characters, but only because the decisions were so grey to begin with (Harrowment v. Bhelen, letting Avernus continue his experiments, letting the Architect live, etc.) So while I don't necessarily self-insert, my morality in real life definitely colors the morality of the characters I play, in that I cannot bring myself to do anything in the game that I couldn't find a way to justify in real life.

I've always had the HOTS for older men even when I was in my younger teens, I had a crush on Keifer Sutherland.  XD

Anyways I went for more mature guys out there because well I guess you could say I had to grow up fast when I was younger,My Hubby is 18 years older than me (I'm 33 he's 51) but that doesn't bother me I love him like crazy and he feels the same way for me. Also our 7th Anniversary is tomorrow!  :D

Now an "evil" playthrough I can't do it, I always wimp out cause that is just not me....I pretty much play a good person and make decisions that I would make in rl...most of the time.  :P

I know this has been discussed at length already, but I don't think I ever actually put my thoughts forward on this thread.  I think there's a very good chance Solas will be an LI.  There's a chance he won't be, sure, that might have something to do with some plot point we don't know about yet, but, his chances are as good, if not better than, the other male companions.

As many have mentioned, Blackwall seems to be the oldest of our companions, and with the taint potentially placing him very close to his Calling it seems too potentially tragic (not that it was an issue with the Thane romance in ME, but still...) to make him one.

Varric is still hung up on Bianca in DA2, and the devs have hinted that it might get resolved in Inquisition, so... unless they find a way to handle it really well, it would be weird to go from seeing that happen in the game, along with whatever emotional impact that will have on Varric, to us propositioning him for a relationship.

And Iron Bull, is well, The Bull.  I can definitely see him being a fling, or even a 'friends with benefits' sort of deal, but with him still being a follower of the Qun (even if he's a bit casual with it), it seems unlikely he would be open to a committed relationship, especially with someone not willing to convert.  Unless he ends up rejecting the Qun?  It's a possibility, but even then it seems odd that he would be the only bisexual LI when he's so unconventional.

I'm not saying this is proof of anything, and I hope for the sake of their fans these guys are romanceable.  I'm just saying Solas has a pretty fair shot!  And yes, I'll be disappointed for a bit if he isn't but it won't be the end of the world.  The game still looks amazing, and I'm fortunate enough to be a fan of Cullen as well, who I look forward to romancing just as much.

And now I'll shut up about it  :) and discuss Solas' feet or something some more  :D Really, I don't think it's weird to be barefoot sometimes. Hell, I always am at home, and don't bother putting shoes on when I run out for the mail and such (and I live in the city).  Ran around the suburbs I grew up in shoe-less through most of the summer.  But, if I were ever in a position were I might be stepping in someone else's blood or intestines or what have you?  Heavy boots are a must!

Questions for discussion: What type of gifts do you think Solas might like? Also what do you think his reaction to red lyrium will be? Do you think he would want to study it?

I can see him being the type to like relics and magical trinkets. I can also see him, out of curiosity, studying the red lyrium while not maintaining physical contact, and instead use his magic to examine its properties as well as maybe be able to make it useful without the harmful affects (like making you crazy like Meredith).

Edit: @Roxy Hope you have a good 7th anniversary  ;)

Happy anniversary, Roxy! And Kiefer Sutherland...I never got over him as David in Lost Boys.

Fialka, I'm thinking along the same lines you are. Agree with everything you said, plus Iron Bull seems almost certain to be race-gated. HE IS HUGE. I don't even know how you'd, ah...animate that with an elf or dwarf. Even with a kiss, they'd need to drag a ladder over first. He seems really cool, and depending on how things shake out I might hook a Qunquisitor up with him, but I like my elves and I think they might get broken.

Solas still looks like a likely LI to me. There just aren't that many other options that make sense.

Gifts?  Hmm... well, books, for one... or perhaps journals or sketchbooks (I always loved that codex in Leliana's song - about how Sketch would collect books only to cover all the text with his drawings).  We know he's interested in history, so... perhaps old relics or historical artifacts?  Maybe old maps that point to undiscovered ruins?  These seem a bit obvious though.  Maybe he has some weird unrelated hobby we don't know about yet.

I would imagine he's be pretty fascinated by red lyrium, maybe not so much studying its effects, but more its origins and how it might have shaped the culture of the primeval dwarves who used to live near it.  We know the profane down there fed off it, which in turn attracted a demon.  We know it makes non-magic users crazy - I wonder what it does to mages?

I would imagine he'd like things along the lines of the gifts that Alistair liked. So I would definitely agree on relics/magic trinkets, but since he seems fond of looking at the past, perhaps he'd also be fond of things like old books/scrolls, hell, maybe he'd be fond of little things like old statuettes/figurines or runestones.

Or, I dunno, he could secretly be a lover of art, and collects paintings and-- he stuffs paintings he finds into his satchel. That's it. That's it.

Not just toes, but legs. Am I the only one really glad that mages are not reduced to wearing robes all the damn time? Vivienne might be able to pull off the robed look in a dramatic way, but Solas? Dorian? I laugh at the image. Thank goodness they get to wear trousers now.

I freely admit that last time I played DA2 I wore the Fugitive's Mantle the entire game because it was literally the only piece of mage body armor I liked the look of. The stats are decent enough I could get away with it. But seriously, even the champion gear bugged me (it looks great on the ladies, but I didn't like it so much on my male Hawke - his arms became huge and made my head look tiny!).

Also, robes. Until the fabric can be simulated well enough in a real-time render, just... don't. The stretchy-texture-blob-sack just bothers me. It doesn't look remotely like fabric and pulls me out of the game. There can be other amazing designs that look properly mage-y that don't involve floor-length gowns. I want a badass mage!

Oh... I ranted a bit. Excuse me... Ahem... yes. trousers please (as an American I should say pants, but that would make other people in the thread giggle...)

I like the idea of options for robes or pants. As long as they are a good design. If I'm playing a more girly character, I'd prefer the robes. Depends on the character.

Happy anniversary Roxy! :D Hope you two have a great day tomorrow!

I love how varied the population of this thread is  :D so many married people too! *high five* I'm 27, but I've been with my husband for 9 years (married for 4) so it's really nice to see others with the same interests.

I've never had a problem with older men. My husband is only 3 years older than me, but I feel like the older they get the better.. it's like a fine wine  probably why I have no issues with Solas being in his 40's. I don't self insert either, so that probably helps. I might name my character after myself, and maybe the same coloring/hair, but I don't feel like they're me so to say. Not that self inserting is a bad thing of course, as lots of people do it! Nothing wrong with that.

@Fialka - I love your optimism! I sure hope you're right! I'm a fan of Cullen as well, so I'm in the same boat if Solas isn't a LI..but Solas is still my first choice. The only guy I'm not really interested in is Blackwall, but not really because of his age or anything..mainly because he looks like my dad and I'm kind of burnt out on Grey Wardens lol

@HeyCal - Gorgeous picture!! Thanks for sharing!

I don't have an issue with older guys either. Thane was my favorite character and in ME and he was 40 as well... which is appropriate since Solas is giving me some weird (but great) Thane vibes.

Is it odd, or do some of you guys also see the similarities?
