What if doing whatever he wants to do requires him to give up part of his magic? The "something you've never seen" that sets him apart as a god? Perfect ending he gets what he wants, I get what I want - everyone is happy.
Though didn't he say something about the foci being a reserve for the powers of the gods? If his broke then maybe he can't be as powerful (I'm ignoring the Mythal issue here)
Ooooh. Yes, the Foci is the missing link (whatever I actually mean by that?) and its loss is totally what should make him a not-god (or whatever they actually are) and if Flemythal gave him uber powerz or whatever happened in that stinger maybe it could be undone or whatever (I said that would four times in one sentence).
