Man, gone for a couple hours and I'm already like 10 pages behind. Sorry I have to play catch-up.
I hope so too, but from a business standpoint it's kind of weird. A lot of people don't play paid-DLC and view it as "extra". So usually companies offer DLC that has a separate story that is only tangentially related. Even Legacy isn't really necessary to understanding DA:I.
But the Solas/Mythal deal is a BIG THING. Big enough that it overshadows Coryphefish. If they resolve that outside of the core game I can see a lot of people being angry, feeling like they paid for the "whole story" buy buying DA:I (not me, but I've heard this argument before)
Or is BW taking a different route and trying to make everything more integrated (would explain why there were so many book cameos in DA:I)?
Honestly, depending on how the DLC goes, Solas's plot line could be resolved in a shorter DLC. If it turns out he's just not powerful enough, or that it's a terrible idea, then it could just be a matter of finding him, finding out it won't work, clean up, done. And then you move on to DA4 where Solas/Inq aren't the protagonists.
Just sayin', it could happen. I don't think it has to be done in a huge expansion. Though I would love a really long one for him and my Lavellan. But I certainly don't want to have to wait until DA4 to have this resolved.
That made me think of two of the reactions you can have (the most popular ones it seems) after the Solas break-up.
"Please don't leave me, not now. I love you."
and
"Tell me you don't care."
On the one hand, I like the first one because she actually gets to tell him she loves him, he has a very emotional reaction to her heartbreak, and it causes him to say "What we had was real" (the feeeeeeeeels) at the ending. On the other, I feel like my Lavellan looks kind of pathetic and weak, begging this guy to stay with her after he dumped her in a really crappy way. The body language made me kind of squirm, to be honest. She's drawing closer to him, begging, and he pushes her back with his hands up blocking her. I didn't like seeing my Lavellan in that state.
The second one, though, gives Lavellan some kind of dignity and power. She gets to leave him stranded there, not the other way around. And like the first option, Solas has an emotional reaction ("Tell me you don't care" ---"I can't do that"). Here's this guy, telling her how much he cares for her, making it really difficult for her to be able to move on. She wants to be able to move on ("Tell me I was some casual dalliance so I can call you a coldhearted son of a b*tch and move on!"). But, after that, I see my Lavellan instantly regretting her reaction.
Ah, decisions decisions. I'm not sure which one to pick on my current Lavellan.
So far my favorite reaction is the "I believe in us". It most embodies how my Lavellan would react--knowing that Solas is trying to pull away because he's got some baggage, but saying it's okay, we'll fix whatever it is, together. She also says "I'm not giving up on you, Solas" which is sooooo what I feel right then. Like, I don't care if you say you're dumping me, because I know you don't want to.
I recorded my last scene and put it on my Youtube. The quality's not the best because it was late and I didn't want to spend hours messing with OBS, and also my PC needs an upgrade. But if you want to see how it plays out:
