Is there an Abelas thread? Would anyone want to make one?

Lol. There's been a lot of talk about it, but Ancient Elves tend to end up here.  XD

Yeah, I really don't think Solas went along with the relationship only to make Lavellan happy.  If his goal was just to appease her, I doubt he would have engaged in it in the first place, knowing how it will end.

 

He also does a poor job of warning her off.  If anything, Blackwall does a better job at pushing the Inquisitor away, from what I've seen of his romance.  Solas is just like, "this is a bad idea"... nevermind *kissy kissy kissy*

 

Solas effectively pushes for the relationship to happen in the first place during the Fade scene, when the Inquisitor kisses him and then he grabs her and kisses her back... twice.  Sure, he says "You know this was a bad idea," basically, but... if it's such a terrible idea, he didn't have to kiss her back.  Could have pushed her away.  Same goes for the second kiss scene.  He could have just pulled away when the Inquisitor said "Don't go," and told her that it was a terrible idea.  He didn't.

 

In all honesty, it looks to me like Solas is the one in the wrong here, because he keeps stringing the Inquisitor along despite clearly believing it can't end well for them.  Who takes a significant other to a special place and goes out of their way to tell that person how awesome and special they are and how much they are in love, only to break up with that person?  While I think Solas meant the best--wanted the Inquisitor to know it wasn't because he had decided he didn't actually love her, or because of anything she'd done--it was still incredibly cruel of him.

 

I like the sad response for some characters, but not for others.  Lavellan isn't trying to be mean to Solas.  She's perplexed as to why this person who just told her he loved her and took her to a special place and gave her a passionate kiss, is suddenly trying to leave her.  She's fallen in love... why would he do this to her NOW of all times?  My super-sweet and adorable Uth'shiral went for the weepy option.  It's not because she wanted to manipulate him, it's because she really did love him, or at least what she knew of him.  And then he effectively tells her, "IT's not you, it's me!"  Which is true and all, but that's the oldest, lamest excuse in the book.

Many pages ago, I mentioned that I thought Solas was a readhead... I still stand by it, because of his eyebrows.

I've missed a lot since I went to bed, it seems.  Like... 20+ pages a lot.  Not sure if I'll try to catch up on all of it or not.

 

Anyway, the redhead thing isn't because he has freckles, but because if you look at his eyebrows he has reddish eyebrows.  Since they likely match what his hair color would have been, he's probably a redhead.  The pale skin also suggests redhead to me--most redheads are very pale-skinned.  Even if his hair were not red, it would definitely not be a super-dark color or his eyebrows' color would suggest such.

 

In other news, I was thinking--and someone may have already come up with this theory--it's a WILD THEORY and I have to share it.  I'm going to share it in spoiler tags in case people don't care about my theories, but... it makes a lot of sense, and the more I think about it, the more sense it makes... which is kind of scary.  (Though I still doubt it'll turn out to be right).  So!  Theory:

After Solas finishes whatever he's up to, or begins it, or... whatever, he's got an extra god soul in him.  I theorize that we are going to learn that the Dark Ritual was based on an elven ritual that enabled the Creators to be reborn into new bodies if one grew feeble/injured/ill/etc.

 

Solas, once finished using Mythal's power, may ask romanced female Lavellan to conceive a child with him that will contain Mythal's soul--obviously you can refuse to do so, and if you refuse, someone else may be willing.  And you probably won't get the offer if you stand against him or don't talk him down from his Grand Plan, etc.  So, by this point we will probably know who and what Solas actually is.  It will most likely happen in post-game DLC, or an expansion (not Awakening style, but some other form of expansion, perhaps more along the lines of ME3's Citadel DLC?).  My reasoning is that Solas and Mythal likely want Mythal's soul back into an elven, potentially immortal, body, rather than a human body.  Solas will not want to carry Mythal's soul around after he's done with its power; he will want to give Mythal another chance at life.

 

One potential drawback to this is that it may be the final interaction for the Inquisitor and Solas.  Either he'll die--probably murdered--or he'll have to leave in order for the Inquisitor to remain safe from the other Creators, lest they discover that she has Baby Mythal with her.  A potential upside is that it could also mean that the Inquisitor is "siding" with Solas/Fen'Harel and Mythal, and thus Solas sticks around to help keep both safe.  If it played out that way, we may even be able to get a happy ending, apart from the likely fact that the Inquisitor remains mortal.

 

The smuttier ones among you:  This probably means that, if my theory is right, there would be a potential Solas sex scene, but only if the Inquisitor already romanced him, learns who he really is and manages to be okay with that.

 

Also, if I am right, it is why only female Lavellan can romance Solas, aside from his probably just being straight.   Elven babies WOULD factor in.  More specifically, elven god babies.  That isn't why he loves Lavellan, as we've seen, but we already knew he's pretty much just into elves.  But, storywise, if this theory turns out to be true... men can't become pregnant (except for transmen...).  Still sad for the bi/gay guys who want Solas and can't have him though.

 

It also means Mythal/Flemeth remains around in future games, just in a different form.

 

Also, will be shocked if this has never been suggested, but a lot of the Solas/Lavellan fanfic writers could totally use "Hungry Like the Wolf" as their theme song...

 

I have never felt more conflicted about a theory before. I want it and it's brilliant, but at the same time, losing Solas permanently? x-x I can't... I don't know >.<

I'm not liking the idea of more god babies at all. It's a well thought out theory but I'd be pretty unhappy with it. I think Morrigan and Kieran was enough.

The idea makes a lot of sense, and I think with the proper reconciliation scene, Lavellan would go with it.

It would give female fans the chance to feel like they could contribute something to future games too. Since thus far, only male protagonists have been allowed to have children. The topic has come up once or twice, but we've never had a say in whether it happens outside of the roundabout Old god baby.

 

It would be Mythal in the same way that Kieran is Urthemiel probably. Speaking of which.. If Solas has Urthemiel's soul too, wouldn't they have to do something about it also?

 

I'm a big fan of the lonely elf getting the family he never thought he'd have.

 

I can't help but wonder whether Solas already had kids before, but they are in uthenera now because he's that old.

In response to both of you, I have to say that I don't know for sure that the theory would mean things had to end in tragedy.  As I pointed out, it could also end up very happily, or at least not entirely sadly, for Solas and the Inquisitor.  Think "Anders and Hawke on the run together" type ending, or the like.

 

And although the theory makes a ridiculous amount of sense after some thought, there's a very high probability that I'm completely, totally wrong.  As I said, it's just a wild theory.  (But would I like it to be true, especially the happy ending version?  OH YES I WOULD.)

I think that she'll have to find a new host somehow, and that's one theory that makes a lot of sense, especially considering "super story reasons" for Solas being female elf only.  Thus far, we've seen story reasons for him being elf-exclusive, nothing to suggest why he's female-exclusive (though that could just be because he's straight, as I've said before).

I think the issue with the baby theory is that it would make more sense if it happens after DA 4-5, otherwise, it's just too soon for his character development.

I'm not an uber Abelas fan, but sometimes the squeeing over him takes over in this thread and we get yet more posts in an already uber-active thread.  And, I don't dislike him; he's very interesting and I'd like to see more of him in either a DLC or the next game (or both).  So, I say go for it - give that elf some attention.  Make sure he can't go fade into obscurity or uthenera.  Who knows?  Maybe he'll be a romance option in the next game.

The main issue is there's just too many god spirits transferring all over the place for it to be meaningful. We're already playing musical chairs with Urthemiel's spirit. If Mythal wanted to rebirth herself, then presumably she had a ton of time to orchestrate this without Solas's help.

There was a fairly lengthy theory on reddit the other day that I've been mulling over quite a bit. Essentially: there are seven old gods and nine elven gods. But thanks to Inquisition, we now know that there are at least seven elven gods trapped. That seems too big of a coincidence not to match up. Then we also have the fact that Solas dislikes the Grey Wardens, and dislikes the idea of killing the old gods. 

 

The theory floating around is that, for some reason, the elven god spirits might be the old gods. Which means that we've killed off the majority of them. There's only two left underground, Solas, and possibly the purified soul of Urthemiel. Its very possible that the world might suffer huge consequences if all the old gods/elven gods were to die.

 

Which is why Mythal is the one who ends up getting absorbed by Solas- she's already dead, at least in one sense. Solas can't afford to risk his own life. 

 

I don't necessarily believe it completely, but it has had me thinking. It all seems to match up too well.

I can't help but wonder whether Solas already had kids before, but they are in uthenera now because he's that old.

 

He probably did, but most of the elves in uthenera were slain, and the rest quickened and are probably also dead.  He seems to have gotten around a bit - Andruil anyone?  And he was young and hot-blooded.  You can't tell me he didn't have a little fun out there.  He said it'd been a long time, not that he'd never been in a relationship.

 

Even if he hadn't had children within a committed relationship, prior to becoming Fen'harel when he realized how very WRONG everything was, he might have sewn his wild oats with servants or even slaves who were likely in his employ.  I'm hoping he never owned any slaves etc., but to me it sounds as if he did... until he realized it was Very Wrong.  Possibly whenever he became one of the Creators/whatever spirit/god/entity/being entered him?

Solas actually says that the Tevinter Old Gods and the elven pantheon are not one and the same.  Also, it's believed that the elven gods are sealed in an eluvian.  The Old Gods are sealed underground.

 

It's possible that the Old Gods may have been the Forbidden Ones (I think that's what the 'evil' gods are called by the elves?), and Solas actually stowed each set in a different location.  But if that is the case, he's too late to save the majority of the Old Gods, since their souls were destroyed along with those of the Wardens who slew them.

 

As for my theory... Solas only needs her power for a while.  She could be permanently dead, but Solas called her "friend."  If there were a way to make things right with her, he most certainly would.  I get the feeling we're soon going to be contending with All The Ancient Gods (except the ones who are dead--and yes that IS a reference to Portal).  Also, ancient god souls seem to be able to separate from one another, even if sharing a host.

I disagree with that. He pushed for the relationship as much as Lavellan with his passionate kisses. He was the one who initiated the second and third romance scenes. He also asked her to dance at the ball. Lavellan initiated the romance, but she didn't push hard at all.

 

To add, I picked the bottom option when speaking to Solas after the

fade kiss scene and my Lavellan said something like, "If I'm pushing you into this and you're uncomfortable..."  And he tells her that isn't the case at all.  You can tell he really wants to be with her as well, but he's concerned for varopis reasons.  I don't think he ever would've "come on" to her if she hadn't initiated the first kiss.  Even if he had feelings for her, he never would have acted on them unless she gave him an indication that she felt the same way.  It's like when Sera romances an elf and he doesn't deny that he also "fancies" her.  He just avoids it altogether.  So to call Solas' hesitation as him being "uninterested" in her just doesn't make sense to me.
