I would argue that it's also true that the humans/Chantry royally screwed up, too, but then I am not sure what thread you've seen all the Dalish hate in.

 

They've all made big screw ups. Some people like to point out the Dalish as being solely to blame, though.

I haven't done his romance, just wanna say the last two pages were a fantastic palate cleanser after the dozen pages of Dalish hate and "they deserved to be destroyed" crapolla I just read. Ugh. They made mistakes, of course they did, but the descendants of those people that made mistakes don't deserve to be destroyed or have their culture made illegal over it. The game makes it clear that not all Dalish are xenophobic jerks (the Lavellan clan the prominent example- my boy certainly isn't xenophobic, just cautious) but the "elf appreciation thread" turned into elf-bashing is just painful to read.

 

Kinda mad at Bioware for giving the elf-haters so much juicy lore to use to justify elf hate- but at the same time, I appreciate the added dimension to their lore and the fact the Dalish are given a chance to start making amends for their side of the whole thing. Some people take that to mean the Dalish are evil and deserve to be wiped out. They are my favorite part of DA lore, and it makes my heart hurt.

Heh. I didn't really care about the Dalish going into Inquisition. Never made a Dalish Warden, adored Merrill but thought she was dangerously naive. I was way more attached to the mage/templar issue, and I thought the Dalish were just your standard haughty fantasy elf stereotype.

 

But Inquisition made the Dalish much more sympathetic to me because they've been so mistaken about their own history. They're rather tragic figures, almost post-apocalyptic, but also admirable because they try. I liked having the option of saying that to Solas. At least the Dalish try. And perhaps, with the Inquisitor's help, they can forge a new identity that defines them in the present while acknowledging past failures. Inquisition gave the Dalish some much-needed depth.

My canon warden is a male Dalish rogue (and HE was a xenophobe- Duncan had to drag him screaming and fighting away from his clan- he would rather have died with them than live away from them, and he was an ass to King Cailan when they met; but he forged a great friendship with Alistair, broadened his horizons quite a bit, and decided in the end to help rebuild the wardens instead of running back to his clan until his Calling).

 

Hawke was... Hawke. Lol. And he loved a broody, anti-Dalish elf. I was ecstatic to play an elf again, and a Dalish one at that, and to learn so much more about them. I want to see the Dalish re-establish themselves and their culture, without the xenophobia and distrust, to become a respected people that are equals with the other races. Who knows if BW will give us that, though; I will keep my fingers crossed for it.

Man, gone for a couple hours and I'm already like 10 pages behind. Sorry I have to play catch-up.

 

 

Honestly, depending on how the DLC goes, Solas's plot line could be resolved in a shorter DLC. If it turns out he's just not powerful enough, or that it's a terrible idea, then it could just be a matter of finding him, finding out it won't work, clean up, done. And then you move on to DA4 where Solas/Inq aren't the protagonists.

 

Just sayin', it could happen. I don't think it has to be done in a huge expansion. Though I would love a really long one for him and my Lavellan. But I certainly don't want to have to wait until DA4 to have this resolved.

 

 

 

So far my favorite reaction is the "I believe in us". It most embodies how my Lavellan would react--knowing that Solas is trying to pull away because he's got some baggage, but saying it's okay, we'll fix whatever it is, together. She also says "I'm not giving up on you, Solas" which is sooooo what I feel right then. Like, I don't care if you say you're dumping me, because I know you don't want to.

 

I recorded my last scene and put it on my Youtube. The quality's not the best because it was late and I didn't want to spend hours messing with OBS, and also my PC needs an upgrade. But if you want to see how it plays out:

Maker's Balls that was depressing. I feel like that is the most sad one. I had never seen that option before!! "You'll see." Damn that is grim. It makes me think that Bioware really has doomed us all.

It's actually the thing I like most about him. I love all the prompts that place him as dominant in aspects of the relationship, I really do, but for me there's nothing more heart warming than someone being gentle and valuing free will over everything else. For all his power, for all his knowledge, and even for all his faults where he messes up, those are the traits I find most appealing to his character.

 I love that  He seems to respond the warmest when Lavellan is sweet and gentle, like if you pick the teary eyed dialogue options, the big softie.

Thiiiiis. Reminds me of the Mercy riddle in DAO, "she wields the broken sword, and separates true kings from tyrants." The fact that he's gentle and knows when NOT to fight is one of the most attractive things about him, as a friend, lover, and ally.

Guys, I just finished my first play-through romancing Solas. I was really careful about spoilers, so I was completely blindsided

At the end, when Solas/Fen'Harel says that the people need him, who do you think he's referring to? I don't think it's all of the elves (even though I think he came to value some aspects of the Dalish and the city elves) but I also don't think he's referring to everyone in Thedas..thoughts? Did I maybe miss something here?

 

I think this is the first game since DAO where I can honestly say that I am looking forward to some DLC. 

 

Now back to my box of tissues. :'(

He is. And seeing how scary he is when he's angry just makes me appreciate how cuddly he usually is even more.

I am a bit biased when it comes to the chantry. I feel they are too close minded and try to shove their beliefs down everyone' throats.
The way Cassandra scoffed at the thought of elven gods..dismissing them as rubbish was quite disrespectful and intolerant. And the disapprovals you get if you say you dont believe in the "Maker"

I agree though everyone screwed up and the power dynamics have changed.
