You just know he'd deny it if our Lavellans call him out on it too! Cuddly hedge mages are the best hedge mages.

It's like that banter with Leliana and Sten!

Leliana: I saw what you were doing back there.

Sten: Oh?

Leliana: Don't play innocent with me.

Sten: What are you talking about?

Leliana: Outside, you were picking flowers!

Sten: ...No, I wasn't.

Leliana: You were!

Sten: ...They were medicinal.

Leliana: You're a big softie!

Sten: We will never speak of this again.

Leliana: Softie!

~

Sten: Stop that.

Leliana: (Giggles) Stop what?

Sten: That. Looking at me and giggling.

Leliana: I can't help it! You are so big and stoic! Who would have thought you'd be a big softie?

Sten: Stop saying that. I am a soldier of the Beresaad. I am not a "softie."

Leliana: (Giggles) Softie.

Sten: ...I hate humans.

It's actually the thing I like most about him. I love all the prompts that place him as dominant in aspects of the relationship, I really do, but for me there's nothing more heart warming than someone being gentle and valuing free will over everything else. For all his power, for all his knowledge, and even for all his faults where he messes up, those are the traits I find most appealing to his character.

out of likes, have a heart  <3

I haven't done his romance, just wanna say the last two pages were a fantastic palate cleanser after the dozen pages of Dalish hate and "they deserved to be destroyed" crapolla I just read. Ugh. They made mistakes, of course they did, but the descendants of those people that made mistakes don't deserve to be destroyed or have their culture made illegal over it. The game makes it clear that not all Dalish are xenophobic jerks (the Lavellan clan the prominent example- my boy certainly isn't xenophobic, just cautious) but the "elf appreciation thread" turned into elf-bashing is just painful to read.

Kinda mad at Bioware for giving the elf-haters so much juicy lore to use to justify elf hate- but at the same time, I appreciate the added dimension to their lore and the fact the Dalish are given a chance to start making amends for their side of the whole thing. Some people take that to mean the Dalish are evil and deserve to be wiped out. They are my favorite part of DA lore, and it makes my heart hurt.

Someone in that thread suggested Solas' appreciation thread to be the place to go for elf support, so here I am even though it isn't the primary goal of the thread.

That said, I do adore Solas even if he disproves of my boy's Dalish pride. They still became friends, and I love his character. My elf hasn't learned about the massive Dalish screw ups yet though. I imagine he'll have a bit of a crises when that happens (no idea if the game gives dialogue options for playing that out).

I don't know if I will get a female Lavellan to see Solas' romance, but as a friend to my Inquisitor, he's a fantastic foil.

I haven't really seen the hate on the Dalish, though that may be because I haven't journeyed to "that part" of the forums. (I just love hanging around this thread for all the Solas love and interesting theories and speculations that people come up with. Not to mention being able to read some of the juicy smut fics.)

With that said though, as someone who's played a Dalish Warden in DA:O and formed some kind of attachment for them, the revelation that the Dalish elves have gotten their history all wrong did kind of shock me, but at the same time, I thought it made the story more compelling. (Though I know some fans in the Tumblr community see it as Bioware purposely taking a dump on the Dalish in general and claiming they did it because Bioware hates the elves, which I seriously don't believe was Bioware's intent.)

I'm just kind of sad that people are using the newfound lore to justify their hate for the Dalish. I know they're flawed and can be pretty nasty to someone who is not Dalish, but that does not mean that they all deserve to die. That's a bit much. :(

Guys, I just finished my first play-through romancing Solas. I was really careful about spoilers, so I was completely blindsided

Spoiler
So of course I am a heartbroken mess. I did have a question though.

My apologies if this has been asked before (I checked the FAQ) --
Spoiler

I think this is the first game since DAO where I can honestly say that I am looking forward to some DLC.

Now back to my box of tissues. :'(

He is referring to all elves or the Creators he locked away. As far I could interpret he locked them and woke up to find his People in a pitiful state. They are just a shell of their former selves.
The orb was the only way to release the other Gods..nw that has failed..time for more drastic measures perhaps.

I am a bit biased when it comes to the chantry. I feel they are too close minded and try to shove their beliefs down everyone' throats.
The way Cassandra scoffed at the thought of elven gods..dismissing them as rubbish was quite disrespectful and intolerant. And the disapprovals you get if you say you dont believe in the "Maker"

I agree though everyone screwed up and the power dynamics have changed.

Did she scoff? I seem to remember her being quite respectful, while still holding onto her faith. I believe her response to my Dalish saying she believed in her own gods was "and is there no room in your pantheon for one more?" That's quite tolerant, really. She isn't denying that your gods exist, only suggesting that perhaps your faiths are not incompatible.

I dunno, I dislike it when Cass is painted as some sort of zealot, because she really isn't. She's constantly questioning her own beliefs. That's why she and Solas get along so well.

*huuuuugs* We know how you feel!

Personally, I think "the People" refers to the elves, though which elves is a matter of some debate.

Welcome to the Solas thread, we have fanfiction and sad music and shirtless Solas to help with the feels.

As for the stinger, I think it's up to interpretation.  If he romanced Lavellan, I think it's more likely that he's talking about all the elves, since she gave him hope that they might not be entirely lost.  I very much doubt he's talking about everyone in Thedas; he cares about individual people, but has trouble maintaining that level of empathy when he looks at the big picture.  But the stinger is very ambiguous, so it's really just opinion.

It happened during the Well of Sorrows :P I found it contradictory tbh. She constantly strives to find the truth but at the same time this?

I think the big thing they are forgetting in that thread is that people are just people whether they are ancient elves, dalish elves, humans, city elves, or dwarves. And many of those people freely admit or admit when they are confronted that they are responsible for their own mistakes.

  • In DAO Hahren Paivel will say in some respect that the elves were responsible in some aspects for the fall of the Dales because they failed to meet the Grey Warden Treaties requiring them to help during a Blight (The Exalted March against the Dales occurred immediately after the Second Blight).
  • Bhelan will admit the Dwarven nobility is responsible for the conditions of the casteless.
  • Alistair will admit that the conditions in the Alienage in Denerim are partly the fault of the human nobility. Dorian freely admits that Tevinter society is royally @#$%% beyond all belief..
  • Celene recognizes that how she treats elves is bad and will work with Briala to make amends.
    Spoiler
  • Even Cassandra and Leiliana admit that the Chantry is not always right in how they treat elves or mages or the Templars who are forced to become drug addicts in order to do their jobs.. People make mistakes and race or nationality doesn't really matter its human nature.
  • Vivienne is not truly blind to what happens in some Circles and will admit that it cannot return to how it was and that it isn't just the mages who need monitoring but the Templars as well so that another Fereldan Circle or Kirkwall Circle does not happen.
  • Solas will admit that while there were great things about Arlathan it was also a society like any other with any of the problems that most great societies have/had

The main problem is that much like in the real world there are only a few people such as, Divine Justinia V/Revered Mother Dorothea, The Hero of Fereldan, Hawke or your Quizzy who are actually doing anything to address the injustices. And in order for change to occur at a society wide level than everyone has to recognize there are problems and everyone has to work to fix them and even then it won't be perfect (e.g. American Civil Rights Movement)

Did you guys notice how many times Solas says "gentle" and implies being gentle is admirable ?

It's actually the thing I like most about him. I love all the prompts that place him as dominant in aspects of the relationship, I really do, but for me there's nothing more heart warming than someone being gentle and valuing free will over everything else. For all his power, for all his knowledge, and even for all his faults where he messes up, those are the traits I find most appealing to his character.

I love that <3  He seems to respond the warmest when Lavellan is sweet and gentle, like if you pick the teary eyed dialogue options, the big softie.

Yeah.   Despite everything, he's at his heart a really good person.

Thiiiiis. Reminds me of the Mercy riddle in DAO, "she wields the broken sword, and separates true kings from tyrants." The fact that he's gentle and knows when NOT to fight is one of the most attractive things about him, as a friend, lover, and ally.

Iron Bull: Nice job in that last fight, Solas. You really kicked the crap out of that guy.
Solas: I suppose.
Iron Bull: [scoffs] What, you don't think so? You ripped him a new one! It was great!
Solas: Unless the fight is personal, violence is a means to an end. It isn't appropriate to celebrate.
Iron Bull: [sighs] I don't know. Gotta wonder about anyone who fights as much as we do and doesn't have some fun with it.
Solas: We have fought living men, with loves and families. And all that they might have been is gone.
Iron Bull: Yeah, but they were assholes.

Thinking back, he is pretty gentle, all things considered. His manner of speaking, the way he treats Cole, how he looks at Lavellan in that last scene. He really is a big puppy softie!  :D

You just know he'd deny it if our Lavellans call him out on it too! Cuddly hedge mages are the best hedge mages.

He is. And seeing how scary he is when he's angry just makes me appreciate how cuddly he usually is even more.

(We need more gentle!Solas fanfic, from what I've seen on tumblr it goes from zero to sixty; either celibate or full-on dominant).

I actually felt rather bad for Cass during the Well of Sorrows.  Having your faith shaken is never a pleasant experience; sometimes a valuable and important one, but it's almost never painless.  I don't blame her for being defensive.

Ugh it's so cuddly in here now. It makes me sad that we didn't get an option to at least hug Solas whenever we wanted. He needs a good hug or two....or twenty, poor dude.

I, for one, love the option to have my PC kiss their LI whenever they want. I'm sad that they didn't add that into Solas' romance too!

I don't think that Bioware hates the Dalish at all, I doubt they would give the elves so much attention if they "hated" them. Nor would Flemeth be so involved with them as well.

I, for one, find that twist that they've gotten "everything wrong" as some wonderful storytelling. I mean, I've always assumed that the Dalish must have gotten something wrong in their beliefs after losing so much of it -- or, in another theory, purposely changing things to be seen as more positive (i,e, the vallaslin) -- because there is always a question as to why they do things they way they do, or why exactly they believe in certain things when their Keepers can't provide them with all the answers.

I think the Dalish have the most focused attention of the Bioware story -- they have their own language that we see far more of than any of the other languages in Thedas.

As an aside: there's a reason I rarely leave this thread. I've peeked about, seen the hate, and came right back for everyone who posts here. <3

This is the final product on Solas's next Lavellan.  Aderyn Lavellan, rogue archer, at least inspired by Liv Tyler.  I really can't copy faces that well XD

I'm not even halfway done with the game on my last Lavellan.  I just am churning them out it seems... :P

*snip*

There's so much desire in his eyes... I'm unsure if they did the deed or not in my headcanon, but I'm leaning towards "no".  If they didn't, then that is the moment when he really wants to make love to her, and then a second later he has the "regret eyes" and realizes he can't because it would be wrong after the lies.

Not just that but in my view he later looks like Lavellan is a puddle of quicksand, if he steps one inch closer he will be gone, unable to leave. He realizes that after that last inch of closeness he won't be able to force himself to do what he must do because he loves her. He needs Lavellan to stay away or he is gone, completely on her thrall
