I can't wait to play again and hear Solas and the Inquisitor both doing it. It's super neat to me that the Inquisitor can pick up that rhythm.

 

I love that too. It's actually a real-life thing that happens: a person can/will mimic the speech patterns of others for a bunch of reasons having to do with seeming less threatening/being more easy to relate to/love/friendship/respect/etc. I do this all the time (makes my boyfriend giggle when he and my mom are in the same room with me because my cadence switches dramatically depending on which person I'm talking to).

Actually, thinking of the song possession, there are a few lyrics in it which are uncanny.

There's now a Solas fanfic/fanart/other fanworks thread where you can post that kind of stuff. Made by Chibielf, thank you to them. You can still post fanworks here of course - we just thought that since this thread moves so quickly, sometimes things get missed as they're buried in posts, so we thought we'd make a separate thread for these things so that people aren't missing them or having to trawl through 40 pages each time they login just to try and catch all the new fanworks! Chibielf may have already mentioned this thread in here already in which case I apologize for the double-posting on the subject.

Hey guys! I just finished this so I thought I'd leave it here. Pretty much all my angsting about the end of game. I already posted it to the Solas fanfiction thread. Have fun!

This was really good, very well written. Your Lavellan is a bit different than mine, but I enjoyed your take on it. And I'm not on the Abelas bandwagon, but I did like the hints of jealousy, Solas deserves at least that much

So, Solas is the only one who has something positive to say about Necromancy I noticed.  He approves if you say you chose it to understand spirits more.

 

Cole, Blackwall, Cassandra and Sera all don't like it.  Blackwall and Cole actually have an approval drop if you choose it as your mage spec.

 

It isn't so surprising, but it just shows how open-minded Solas is to stuff that would otherwise be taboo.  He also said he'd be happy to teach her blood magic if he knew it, after she expressed interest in it (back in Haven).

 

edit: Cole's reasons are because it uses fragments/essences of energy that could become spirits, though, and he fears she may move on to binding actual spirits- different than the "it's creepy" reaction from Blackwall, Cassandra, and Sera

Oh, this is fascinating!  So much respect for Mr Weekes!

 

I really, really love that Mr. Weekes listens to orchestral music when writing.  To me, lyricless music always touches me in a way that lyrics can't.

 

And I think that Solas' speech pattern is one of the reasons we love him so very much.  Our ears hear something that, even if we are not aware of it, connects to our very being.

When I read that he listened to the OST of "Once" I just died a little inside. You guys have NO idea how much I love this music, I've listened to that soundtrack so many times I know the lyrics by heart.

Relistening the soundtrack now and grossly sobbing to myself because of the feels.

This is what Solas said in response to choosing the Necromancy mage specialization:

 

Solas: You have begun practicing new magical forms.  Interesting.  You seem to be drawing energy across the veil, wisps too simple to be considered spirits.  I believe Dorian uses similar magic, as do the Mortalitasi of Nevarra.  Why did you choose such an esoteric area of study?

Lavellan: I hoped that studying such magic would help me better understand spirits.

Solas: While our fight affords little time for formal study, the wise can better themselves even in the midst of battle.  Perhaps especially then.  I hope your new studies serve you well.

I can definitely relate. I was unprepared for Hallelujah and Falling Slowly; the two of them made for some watery eyes. I didn't think of it before, but Hallelujah fits tragically well. Ow, my heart.

I often turned to K.D. when I started thinking about Solas, over the past few months. Including "Hallelujah". (had posted last week, with the YT vid "Constant Craving", as a song I think of, when pondering Solas/Lavellan) But the rhythm in "Hallelujah" really is apparent, after reading the blog. Fantastic.

Funny that this 'cadence' while talking has come up. My husband finally got to the first Solas scene where you go into the Fade. I, of course, had already seen this scene. I mentioned to him that the line:

 

"I watched the rifts expand and grow, resigned myself to flee, and then..."

 

sounds like it was written in verse metre. Like reading an epic poem. He laughed at me at the time, says I'm just ensorcelled with Solas--which I am--but there was some truth to it after all. It just flows, like a poem.

Actually... thinking about it, the whole plot of "Once" kind of strangely reflects the relationship Lavellan and Solas have.

Especially the ending, since it is VERY evident that the two main characters of the movie have developed very strong feelings for each other, and that they found a soulmate in each other, but know in the end a relationship wouldn't work. And the ending is so perfect because it is immensly beautiful and still hurts so badly....
