Just thinking out loud here...

 

What about, (IF WE EVER GET SOME CLOSURE -.- )

 

Maybe drinking the Well could affect the way the relationship resolves, after you deal with the threat posed by Solas plan. 

 

 

If you drank then you eventually figure Solas is FenHarel, you can forgive him and he is happy to have someone who trully understands him moving forwards. 

 

If you didnt drink then Solas confirms he is an ancient elf who woke up ( that much you can pretty much figure out on your own once youre done crying on the break up). Then he can move on from being a god and and just be... Solas. 

If you drink the well... then Solas gives Lavellan Mythal's essence that he stole and she becomes immortal and they live happily ever after

 

(In my dreams hahaha this would be far too happy an ending for Bioware, not enough fan tears for them!)

So I've done the ending. Again. I thought maybe I would feel a little bit "yay we beat the big baddie" this time as it's not new to me, but no. This romance completely ruins what should have been a moment of glory and triumph. All I want to to in the end is scream. Loudly. I'm actually angry at my self for not saving this romance for a last playthrough. 

 

Mr. Weekes, I tip my (non-existing) hat to you, you made this old, cold and cynical lady feel something. Well played.

 

Heh, you have more resolve than me.  I can't finish the game again on a Solas romance until there's some announcement of a Solas DLC (which I hope happens).  I'll just do everything up until the final battle.  Him disappearing is too sad

 

If I actually get around to making a human/dwarf/qunari Inquisitor, then it should be a little less sad to finish (I hope...)

I'm rather glad I went into Inquisition as unspoiled as possible and romanced Solas as the first because it made it all the more glorious when the reveal came.  Seriously, I thought his hesitation was because Lavellan was the First to her clan and a Dalish and so he thought that would be too much or he had gotten too used to being on his own and so believed he'd continue alone after the Breach matter had been settled.

 

It made it all the more harder to have the romance end in the heartwrenching way it did because the game gave my imagination time to wonder how the romance would turn out.  

 

I didn't even register the hesitation. Most LIs in Dragon Age seem to say something along the lines of "this won't be good/are you sure about this" at some point. It's a legitimate thing to say when one of you could die at any moment while saving the world. I did get a little spoiled - I knew something bad was going to happen.

 

But that!? The way it turned out made me cry.

Due South? That episode still makes me want to tear up just thinking about it. It also happens to be the first place I heard Sarah McLachlan, I believe. Been in love with her ever since. XD

 

Sorry for the lateness and YES! That is exactly where it is from. Cry at that episode every time too and ditto on the first time I heard Sarah McLachlan. *sigh* Those were the good old days.

I really enjoyed this interview with Alix.  She talks about her love of the Weekes, and mentions the Vallaslin scene (around 38 mins in).  I just love her enthusiasm for BioWare, and DAI.

And it just reinforces the point that there's no "right" answer for the vallaslin choice. I know some people felt pressured to have them removed because they thought Solas would be mad at them if they didn't, but what I love most of all about that scene is that no matter what choice Lavellan makes, it doesn't change his love for her in the slightest. His gift to her was that choice, and the knowledge to make it while fully informed.

Yeah!  The other romances get to choose whether they can have a happy ending or not, and we get to choose whether to have face tattoos or not!  It's all fair, right BioWare?

Regardless, I wouldn't doubt there's someone out there in that boat.  I know a few hardcore DA fans who've not bought the game yet because they know it'll consume all the time they don't currently have.
