What if the Black City holds the reapers?

Well it very clearly holds the Blight, and may also hold the key to immortality (Corypheus et al were probably mortal when they entered).

Some think the Black City is Arlathan.

I have a theory that it was not Arlathan, but an unknown entire city was thrown into the Fade, and the Fade and reality separated by the Veil, because someone's weapon or the like went horribly awry there, and gradually contaminated the entire city (which was once golden).  Thus, while Corypheus is responsible for bringing the Blight to the real world, he wouldn't have been responsible for "ruining" the Golden City; it's likely that Dumat was curious what had happened and wanted to know for sure.  Alternately, if it were Arlathan, Dumat could have wanted access to something in the city, and was unaware that it wasn't safe to pay a visit.  It's even possible that the city could be dwarven, and perhaps has something to do with why dwarves can't work magic.

If the Black City IS Arlathan (and I doubt it, because we've seen some concept art that I'm pretty sure was meant to be Arlathan in-game for DAI), then it's likely that the gods are sealed away in there, and something to do with that--Andruil and/or Falon'din, most likely--has created the Blight (their anger/rage?).  But it does not explain why the city stands empty.

I really hope they address this aspect of the eluvian mystery and don't just hand-wave and say "open for business!". TME spoilers follow:

Spoiler

I find it strange that Morrigan seems to have been the only one we know of to unlock an Eluvian by herself. It's never really explained how she manages to do so, or why she can while so many others with more power, knowledge, or desire have failed. Did she consult a demon like Ismael? Or is it something to do with her connection to Mythal? Is it just that not many people know about them, even though they are now familiar to the player? I hope that gets cleared up eventually

In Witch Hunt, Morrigan took that ancient elven book about eluvians from the Dalish.  The Dalish couldn't read it, but she could.  I presume she learned what she knows from there.  I wonder if she summoned a spirit/demon like what was done with Imshael, or she just happened to find a passcode in that book along with an eluvian that was still mostly functional and connected to the crossroads.  In Last Court, she builds her own, so maybe she's just really handy with old elven magical tech.

Little computer-boy shows up after you walk through an Eluvian...

Yeah, that's a pretty accurate response for many.

Look at you, raining on the parade...

Just kidding :P.  That's probably the *logical* reason for why it works like that, though it does feed into our hope for more Solas in the future *sigh*

It's true. Total parade rainer.

That would probably come from being Flemythal's daughter.

Solas is Shepard reincarnated and Shepard picked the blue option at the end of Mass Effect. He hoped to control the reapers to give everlasting life to his Love Interest Liara's descendants. However, over time, his control over the reapers started to fail so he had to lock them away in Black City. And with that the reapers' ability to give immortality to mortals started to go away. Now Solas wants to fix his mistake by going back in time to choose the green option. I need to go to sleep.

Well, he did find the politics and intrigue enthralling.  And the sex.  Can't forget the sex.

My Uth'shiral Lavellan must have been so disappointed after that.  My head canon is that they never did the deed.  She was too shy to ask, and Mr. "I'll just let you make the first move," never pushed for it.  On the upside, she's probably pretty glad they didn't, after what happened.

No way does she not suspect Solas is an ancient elf... but suspicion is one thing, confirmation is entirely another.  Not to mention I'm sure that his being Fen'harel is the furthest thing from her mind.

I think revealing he's Fen'Harel would be the one way to stop my Lavellan from being angry at him. Actually I'm not even sure she'd suspect he was an ancient elf. Other than Mythal/Flemeth she's never met one. Probably wouldn't occur to her that it could be possible. Add Fen'Harel + ancient elf and she'd just be: I need to sit now...and maybe drink...a lot.

Especially since my headcanon is she did some stuff in the Fade at least. Surprise the Trickster God has seen you nekkid!

The part where she can read ancient elven, I suppose.

Don't stand too close to it Solas you are not a melee person.

Also, I think Corypheus's dragon is immune to bees...

I didn't like ME3's ending much either, but can we please drop the ME3 ending bashing stuff?  That was several years ago.  I get it, it stunk.  It stunk for me too.  But this is Dragon Age and it's a couple years later.  Time to move on.

There is an astronomically small possibility that the two series are connected by anything more than goofy crossover/cameo bits (like the krogan head, or the rage demon in the gallery in ME3).

I'd forgotten about the Dalish book from Witch Hunt -- it's been ages since I played it. But wouldn't the Tevinter magisters have been able to read ancient elven? Since they were around when it wasn't ancient?

My Lavellan still has no idea about Solas' ancient elf/god thing, or even really suspects.  But after all the weird stuff she's been through, she might just be like, "of course you are." :P

Keeper's First Lavellan really needs to sit through the basics again.  Although, I guess being the Dread Wolf's lover is a rather creative way of protecting your clan from him.

I assume the Tevinters never had that book.  It was probably very rare.  That Dalish clan did send their best hunter to go after it.

I get that you were joking.  The problem is the joke ceased to be funny a long time ago (at least to me), and imagine how it makes the devs feel to continue to see it brought up all the time when they made the Extended Cut to fix it, and have since then gone out of their way to try to hear the fans out.  Just because they don't always post to the forums doesn't mean they don't browse them.

You can choose to not like the joke, but there are people here who do and we have the freedom to speak how we like. What I like about this thread is the lack of hostility and I would like to keep it that way.

So who here is hoping for a bittersweet/tragic ending to the Solas story and who is hoping for a happy ending above all else? I want to get an idea of the percentage.

Romance Scene #2 (Alternate Version):

"Has [the anchor] affected you...changed you in any way? Your mind, your morals, your...spirit?"

"Well...I can no longer remember basic lessons of my history, or anything that my Keeper taught me about the elven gods..."

Part of me morbidly hopes that they will die together. For some reason that seems to make a lot of sense to me. But then part of me do want the happily ever after. Seems like it depends on my mood.

I lean toward happy mostly because Lavellan is quickly becoming my favorite character. And I have a definite shortage of happy couples in Dragon Age. But as long as the story is resolved well, I'll be happy.
