An interesting thing about the Dales is that it's majority elven. That's why Halamshiral doesn't have an alienage; the city is mostly elven with a small population of humans that live walled up. So a mostly, if not entirely elven village there probably isn't unusual. I could see Solas coming from some tiny village out in the undead-infested boonies of the Dales that most outsiders avoid and no one really pays any attention to. It would contribute to nobody noticing him and how he was able to easily lose himself in the wilderness to begin with.

Surely scribbles is going to be a LI? I don't really mind if all female companions / advisors (except for Leliana) are romanceable, so long as they are not all romanceable in one single playthrough. If they are all single, why would they be unavailable?
I've mentioned this before somewhere, but I wonder if that the new way conversations are being handled in the open world, which enables the PC to just walk away and doesn't appear to involve cinematics, will have freed up resources for more conversations with companions and therefore more romances.
I think with race gating, having only 6 LIs in the game could actually feel like less choice for most players, many just play the game once.

Yeah looking at it in the demo, they were phrasing the walkaway conversations as adding "flexibility" but it looked to me like they were cutting out the animation work for certain quests givers. This could mean one of two things. Either more animation time is getting put into companion/main story-centric arcs, or this strategy was implemented to allow for more quests, making the world feel more alive and populated.

It is not unheard of for Dalish elves to hook up with non-Dalish elves. Zevran's mother was Dalish and she married a woodcutter. This suggests two things; one that at least in Antiva the Dalish do have some sort of contact with non-Dalish that would allow such a romance to develop; two that elves in Antiva don't all live in the cities, because it is a bit hard being a woodcutter if there are no trees. However, it would seem, just as with Feynriel's mum, that having a romance outside of the tribe tends to make you an outcast because after the woodcutter died, she was forced into prostitution instead of returning to her clan. In fact, since Feynriel's dad was also an Antivan human, may be his mum was an Antivan Dalish who travelled to Kirkwall with him before he dumped her.
What I am getting at is that how elves live depends a lot on the laws in a particular state. In Ferelden you have to have a permit to travel outside the alienage and it would seem from the conversation that Gaspard has with the elf warehouse owner that a similar law pertains in Orlais, since he had to have a pass to be allowed in the merchant district. There is not an actual alienage in Halamshiral and there do not seem to be the same restrictions there within the city but I do wonder how free elves are to leave without being given permission to do so. However, the biggest problem for any elf couple trying to set up outside the elven ghetto is their human neighbours. In DAO there are the words of the Hahren about how some elves do manage to get the money together to move up in the world and buy a place outside the alienage, only for them to be attacked by their human neighbours and forced back to the slums. Given the superstitious awe and fear that even the city elves hold for the Dalish and the fact that some clans do act little better than bandits towards the humans, any elves would have an uphill struggle establishing themselves in the rural villages, not impossible but certainly difficult. It may be nothing that Solas did that caused him to have to leave his village, although it is a good bet that if they had human neighbours who discovered he was a mage, they would not have been happy about it.
I am also inclined to think that if Solas can also mean "stands tall" as well as "pride", then this has more to do with self respect than conceit and over confidence. If it is not a nickname but something actually given him by his parents, then it was to remind him he should never be ashamed of being an elf. (Which may also have something to do with the bald head as well - your ears are never covered)

I think you are onto something my friend. (Amongst other things)
But alas, I am tired and must sleep. I will have to see if my brain can formulate anything else to say about your post tomorrow.

I also have a strong suspicion that the romances aren't going to be fully "equal", I can totally see there being more males to romance or more females. Bioware is already race-gating and making gender specific romances because they feel that that is best, so I can see them making more male/female companions romanceable because they feel like it fits with the character's personality, not to solely fulfill the needs of the fans.

Oh wow, that's something I never even thought about. Like Carpool said, I think you have a plausible theory that could be very true! That would be awesome really, and actually something that I could see Solas do, great thinking! ![]()
Edit: I went back to the interview about Solas on the site and I thought I remembered a thingy about him saying something about elves. Here's what Patrick Weekes said: Honestly, Solas hates people who look at him and just see an elf. So that would be a perfect reason for him to shave his head and be proud of his race I imagine, and maybe that's why he gave himself the name Solas, if he was the one who did that. Or like Gervaise said, something his parents gave to him and he grew up with that mindset. ![]()

Hey there! The character pages are going to get a refresh soon, so I'll make sure we add that one.
I noticed the order of the characters changing on the website. Is there a specific reason, or is it just stylistic? #DAI
David Hulegaard @HulegaardBooks
It'll change again before we're done. Never done tinkering. ![]()
Can't wait to see what you guys put out next!
Can you give any details on what a "refresh" entails?
David Hulegaard @HulegaardBooks
Mostly we'll be updating the screenshot galleries. Some of that stuff is pretty old, and the game is prettier now. ![]()

Will the characters get prettier too? (because it's difficult to imagine)

Can you really get any prettier than the Iron Bull? ![]()

If in DA:I companions have their own themes like for example Fenris had one in DA2, what do you think the Solas theme will be like? ![]()
I think this song suits his character. ![]()

Interestingly enough, I made my dalish female Warden bald for that reason. So if that is his reason as well, more reasons for me to like him ![]()
His described personality is already making me huge fan, though. ![]()

But... i really like his face the way it is ![]()
Although! i would like it if they brought back his eyebrow scar, maybe add a bit more detail to his skin texture? I really like the companions as they are, my only critique would be the hair textures - since everything else is so detailed and realistic, it really stands out when they look as flat as they do. And hopefully they fixed the eye color bug... would be nice to see what they actually are as intended. Oh! And I'd love to see Solas in one of his bulkier, more ornate outfits. That would be cool!

I don't think they will show new pictures with characters completely turn around, maybe there will be, as you said, fixed eye, improved/changed outfits (everyone is complaining about Cullen's armor) and possibly different shots of the characters

For anyone interested, there is going to be a Raptr Q&A session with Bioware, I'm not sure how it's going to work exactly but here's the website: http://raptr.com/Bio...tion-developers
I think it's going to go through comments, and then they pick out a few they want to answer? It's a pretty long session though, so let's hope for more new Solas and/or romance info! (or just new info in general would be awesome too
) *crosses fingers*

Mark Darrah was in there earlier answering questions - just check the "filter comments by original poster" to see just the Q/A's he's been involved with. I'm sure someone will archive all of it at some point, but, if you're impatient (like me)...

Ooh thanks for the tip, I've been reading through it a bit and it's pretty neat so far, it's nice to just get little tidbits of info on the game from time to time, even though it isn't anything shocking. I'm glad they're doing things like this ![]()

I suspect the QandA will be mostly general answers to things we may even already know about. Maybe one or two
I would love to see a few more tidbits about Solas. I feel like he is still a bit of a mystery and the interview gave me more questions than answers. MYSTERRYYY!

Well, that has been a thing for a while. I always reference Origins because it's fresh in my memory, but Zev's romance was less fleshed out than Alistair's as an example. It happens.

I wonder if a romance is totally impossible if you choose to RP your Quizzie as a racist little (insert pejorative here) towards Solas in the beginning? Could be interesting if they let you be nasty without barring all possibility of positive interaction later on.

Joel... I don't even. No. Ungh. Must. Refrain. Self. The things I'd do to him if I stuck with him in a zombie apocalypse (or any occasion, really)
I think it's about time we hear more about the romances (and the extent to which we can do things with McBaldy). OH DEVS WE ARE PUNY HUMANS WHY NO GIVE US CLOSURE
