Between the lines, Solas is pretty much the most tragic character Bioware has crafted to date.  He kills me.

The moment I really looked at everything and realized this I had the overwhelming urge to reach into the TV and give Solas a hug. Because holy **** does he need one. Solas completely destroys my heart. It's like Garrus feels but a billion times worse ("I want something to go right...just once").

Incidentally, Patrick Weekes also wrote that ME2 scene.

If not an expansion, I'm totally willing to wait for DAI part 2, which without an expansion, really seems the only way to continue the story. A DLC just isn't enough content.

DAI-2 would be a dream. Don't even give me DLC just work on that.

I agree though...since they don't seem to be willing to do an expansion and there DLC tends to be limited in scope, I'm almost hoping for Solavellan to be resolved in a DAI-2 situation rather than through whatever DLC they release. Except I'm really impatient and don't want to wait four more years for it.

I could see this becoming something that people talk about in a positive way for years if done correctly. I think I finally figured out why FFX ending works well for me too. The tragedy isn't that they can't be together by itself, it's that up until that very last moment they are so in love and so happy. Right now Solavellan aren't together and aren't happy. If they continue being unhappy and separate and then we get to the end of the arc and they're still unhappy and separate it won't be satisfying. It needs to go somewhere from here, not just to greater levels of depression (for me, personally. Other people may feel differently). Tragedy works best when you believe that it will work out until the very moment it doesn't. Also, entertainment media is filled with stories about how Things Just Don't Work Out these days. I want a Neo-Romantic movement please!

This:

It would make the romance seem so hollow to me. I think they handled Blackwell's romance very well in this regard. I'd love if we get the same sort of flexibility with Solas.

We're an optimistic bunch of people, I think.  Most of us are ABSOLUTELY certain in our heart-of-hearts that it just isn't over.

I admit, I'm inclined to agree, since we got the "confirmed romance" thing so late in the game, and then Solas just walks away.  Surely there's more planned.  I doubt it'll have a huge amount of content when/if it is added, for the romance specifically.  But I am sure we'll be dealing with Solas in some way, shape, or form, whether DLC, expansion, or even the next Dragon Age.

I hope it's before the next Dragon Age, though, because I'm pretty sure we'll be picking up a brand shiny new character then.

If the Black City IS Arlathan (and I doubt it, because we've seen some concept art that I'm pretty sure was meant to be Arlathan in-game for DAI), then it's likely that the gods are sealed away in there, and something to do with that--Andruil and/or Falon'din, most likely--has created the Blight (their anger/rage?).  But it does not explain why the city stands empty.

I agree with a lot of this other than the last part -- I'm pretty convinced the ancient elves had nothing to do with the creation of the Blight, but were instead victims of it. The mosaics in the temple of Mythal clearly mention how Andruil was maddened by the Blight when she went to fight it. I know they got a lot of things wrong, but because its in this temple I'm inclined to believe it's closer to the truth.

I guess I'm just wondering how they are going to resolve the him being immortal and her being mortal issue should they stay together. Seems like they either have to make him a mortal or elevate her to god-hood.

I think either possibility could be introduced without breaking things. More likely Solas would lose his immortality like all other elves, but I could see it either way.

Re: Happy ending: It has to be happy, like, happy-happy as in we are reunited, work things out, and we get to live together. I'm so over bittwersweet romances, and I never like the idea of "being happy together in the afterlife", unless the afterlife = permanent exploration of the Fade together.

To each their own yes, let there be options to make it tragic or whatever but please, for the love of god give us a good one. The Alistair romance in DAO was just ugh choices, and while I liked Fenris, none of the DA2 romances really clicked with me anyway. Solas is seriously in his own league as far as romances go, so I would just really love an actual happy conclusion. Pretty please with kittens on top.

So I messaged that guy on tumblr that did that impression of Solas I posted some pages back.

I asked him to do another impression.

He said he would work on it right away.

Lol. I kinda wish they had worked on the game at least another year. They spent too much time focusing on maps then storyline and the ending is really just the beginning of the Quizzy's story.

Did Solas make any comments about the Black City in the fade nightmare part? I could have sworn someone said that you can see the Black City from down here, but I forgot who. If Solas made the comment then maybe he really has a connection to the Black City.

Solas says something about it almost being close enough to touch.

But how do you get to the Black City even if you get into the fade physically? It's still above you.

It's the fade anything you can imagine can happen.

Oh. My. God.

Garrusmancer here. I even didn't have a romance in the first game because I was so devoted to Garrus. Now I have the double-feels.

Considering when you enter, Stroud/Alistair and Hawke are standing with their heads pointed down, I don't think physics apply so much in the Fade.

There is a theory that Solas's orb was to get into the black city, and the black city is what remains of Arlathan.

Ahhh, I forgot how great Garrus was. But I like Solas more partly because it's hard to imagine smut with a bird-like alien. hehe

I'm all about that theory. I hold that theory close to my heart.

The chantry/elven history overlapping DOES THINGS TO ME.

Ughhghghg make it happen Bioware.

I really hope they don't go with the new maps/sandbox idea for dlc. We have enough land to explore. Need more core story.

So who here is hoping for a bittersweet/tragic ending to the Solas story and who is hoping for a happy ending above all else? I want to get an idea of the percentage.

Happy ending...I'm not to fond of tragic endings, hopefully we will have a chance to pick either one since there are some people who like the tragic type of ending. (Which I'll never understand)

For you, maybe. ;)

Hell, if it ends at least as happy as the Garrus romance I'd be good (because in my ME3 canon Shepard lives, because screw those other options I've got a Turian boyfriend down there who needs me).

I suddenly really want to know what the blight really is. Cole said that Solas misses a time when everything sung the same. The broodmother in awakening was driven mad because of the lack of Archdemon song. I wonder if the song that connects everyone was part of Elven society, but became corrupted overtime and just led to a way to mind control slaves.
