I definitely don't need physical intimacy to be happy with this romance. It's actually a bit refreshing to just see emotions and the want of each other. It's very real in its own way. And very profound.

Intelligence is very sexy.

Helps that bioware has some wacky sex scenes.  XD

And Nah, don't need sex to have romance.

Awww Cullen is smart. Actually, I really want to see a chess match between Cullen and Solas. I bet that'd be intense.

erk.

Can't agree.   He's a nice guy.   Passionate.  Thoughtful.    Earnest as hell.   Probably an excellent military strategist.   But nothing about the guy suggests even the faintest glimmer of intellectual curiosity.  So... no.  There's nothing there for me.

Alistair gets a passing grade, though.  Somehow.   Tough to imagine sustaining his sense of humor without being mentally quick, I suppose.

There's also a Skyhold entry mentioning how the Veil there is very old. I'll grab a screenshot if you'd like.

Ooh, that would be lovely!

I wouldn't say he's an intellectual, but that doesn't mean he's not smart in his own way.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Solas and intellectual guys by miles. I'm just saying that Cullen isn't exactly a dunce.

There's something appealing about the idea that most of it happened in the Fade, but not sure how that would actually work. It's still amazing how much passion and intensity came across from scenes in which no clothing was removed. I love it for that.

From a non-romance stand-point I want him so badly to be right. He's been wrong the entire time we've known him, big-picture wise xD. The path he's on now seems so contrary to everything that I think would be a reasonable, rational plan. But if they can write it so he turns out to be correct, in a way that's believable? That would be amazing. I don't want him to be the character that's always wrong :(

I think it would be nice if he was right, regardless of how many people he hurts along the way, that the world would be better if he dropped the Veil and let the other Elven gods loose. I think my issue is that the wants to put the world back to the way it was before and that, at least, can never happen. For one thing, the gods he put behind that mirror/locked in the black city/whatever it was he did with them, aren't really going to be the same ones he remembers. They've been asleep, sure, but they've been slumbering alone in darkness. We don't know how it's affected them. From what he said about Falon'din, that's the kind of guy I wouldn't want any of my favorite characters from DA to meet. (Though I wouldn't mind if Falon'din became the next DA villain, so long as they actually explain him this time around.)

Mythal seemed to want them loose so she could destroy them, to have her reckoning, and get her vengeance. Solas... I don't really know what he wants other than he doesn't see the life of the elves now as any better than it was under the rule of his people. I know we've talked about it in this thread before, but he's essentially just exchanging one kind of slavery for another. It's just he prefers his version and I think it's because he's given up on the hope that things can get better. He's also probably planning on dying by the other gods hands when they get out. They didn't exactly sound... forgiving.

Whatever comes next, it will never be what it was even if when he drops the Veil the elves regain their immortality and all the magic comes back per Sandal's prophecy. The humans aren't primitives living in hovels selling necklaces of bone any longer, the dwarves cut off from what they once were have dwindled, the darkspawn are still around and probably aren't going anywhere, and neither the Dalish nor the City Elves are just going to bend knee when they realize exactly what these old gods want.

But that's enough doom and gloom! Time for happy Solas pictures!

There are different kinds of intelligence. Cullen is a soldier and thinks like a soldier, in concrete problems and concrete solutions for those problems. He's not an intellectual, but he's not unintelligent.

Solas is all high-minded and conceptual, while Cullen is very down-to-earth. So no, Cullen won't talk philosophy with you, but he's still a smart guy. Personally, being a high-minded academic myself, I find Solas's ideas beautiful and engaging, but I don't discount Cullen's intelligence either.

Also Al may be witty but lord is is dumb as a post sometimes. I love the guy but...he really shows his age in Origins. His age being, like, barely 20.

So does the Veil have different ages? Is it more like a Quilt then? Somehow that sounds less impressive/mysterious.

Noooo, I didn't mean to suggest he was an idiot.  None of the Inquisitor's companions and advisors are.  Even Sara has her moments of insight, even if she doesn't always realize she's having them.

What Cullen lacks is.. hard to explain.  A degree of intellectual curiosity.  A certain intensity, interest, and skill in understanding the "why" and not just the "what" of the world around him.   Mordin had it.  Solas has it.  And I really, really like it.

I get where you're coming from. Solas has intellectual curiosity in spades, and even more, he values intellectual curiosity in others. He's the kind of guy you stay up until 3am talking theory with, not even noticing the time. :P

I think after meeting Mythal, finding Abelas, getting knocked around by the Solas breakup, and heading into the final battle this song became my Lavellan's new theme. It just fits.

Though this might have been her theme song at the beginning in regards to her receiving the Anchor.

Goddess ;) I also found another one that speaks of the Veil being around in the times of ancients.

Spoiler

Granted, though, it is written by a Dalish and we've learned that they're wrong about a lot of lore, so I don't know how trustworthy it is.

To the fan fiction writers:
So I'm not the biggest fan fiction... fan but some of the Solas stuff is very well written. If not a little...uh..hmmm....preoccupied (I'm looking at you NSFW writers, I know that stands for now!!!!!). Anywho, just props to the writing and do any of you write your own stories (as in your own worlds and characters and what not) because I'd be interested :)

And my obsessive obsessing over Solas and stalking of his thread made me realize I need a new book to get sucked into. Something to shift my mental state from "frantic worst case scenarios of Solas's ending and lovey dove daydreams" to "gentle mullings over Dread Wolf theories". I looked up top a "top 10 list of books that will make you cry" list. *Determination* This has to take my mind off of that bald elf jeeeeerkkkk!!
I chose Bastard Out of Carolina. Wish me luck!

I think that intellectual curiosity may have been one of the traits that allowed Ancient Elvenan to become so great- they had boundless intellectual curiosity and imagination which led to both good and bad consequences. .. Another reason why he may feel so separate from modern elves- most with the exception of Dalish Warden Mahariel, and Lavellen Quizzy (and maybe maybe Briala,  Velanna and Merrill) seem to lack that intellectual curiosity and imagination- of course it may be due to the overall oppression of elves in Thedas- after all slaves and near slaves (city elves) will rebel if they are educated and their imaginations are encouraged to flourish .. they might question authority and want basic human (elven) rights and civil rights and equal status as citizens of Orlais, the Free Marches, and Fereldan, and one cannot have that anymore than one can have Circle mages wanting the same thing .. after all the Chantry (pre Justinia V) says its wrong.. just wrong .. and as for the Dalish most are to busy just surviving to have intellectual curiosity or imagination... After all what is more important inventing new spells, or questioning one's history when one is faced with sick halla, or a furry little problem caused by your Keeper

I know this is out of left field but now I'm really starting to hope that Bioware makes a dragon age game around the time of Arlathan or maybe during it's fall. How do you guys/gals think that would fare and would anyone want to see a dragon age game like that? Just curious ^_^

Whoa.  The Skyhold codex is crazy interesting.

"I know the common shapes, and I will erect them as was custom.   And we shall see what the elves wished to see."

I love his personal quest, where Mama Lavellan decides if Cole is gonna grow up to be a real boy or a spirit. I think someone on Tumblr called Solas the father and Varric the Dwarf Uncle in that quest xD

Unrelated note:
Does anyone remember if Solas' card remains the hierophant post-game? I deleted that save by mistake and haven't finished again with Lavellan. If it does, can someone grab a screen of it?

i can confirm it does stay the same. I travelled to the hinterlands after post cred..his card was there with the white wolf a.k.a hierophant. Cant put up a screenshot because I am a noob..printscreen button isnt working for me :(

Abelas was kind of a jerk. If Solas doesn't come back, my Lavellan is gonna die alone

yep either solas or my lavellan dies alone. Thats what I did with my shepherd too after thane died. SYNTHESIS ftw

I think that'd be really cool, but unfortunately, I also think we're going to only be moving forward in terms of date of the main games; hence the Age of the Dragon being the namesake of the series. That being said, it's probably safe to assume we'll be hearing more of Arlathan in the days to come. I, personally, would love to have some memory sequence or go back in time to witness the end. That'd be cool, imo.

Yeah, I know right? I've no idea what it may mean. It's a bit of a mystery, and the rest of the codex on it only adds to the questions raised.

Knowing what we know now of Solas, I wonder why he didn't give a complete translation of the Elvish and what it said. I think if he had wanted to he could've told us everything there is to know about Skyhold...

I wish the codexes had a search system...  It was a little easier to search them before when they were presented in a list.

Now it's flip the cards and hope I'm on the right track...

It's funny, because originally my Warden was the forever alone PC.  Then Zevran did the ninjamance, and I just went with it.  Now my happiest couple Hawke/Fenris are obliterated, and Lavellan is, well, a Solasmancer.  How things have changed...

Well the codex talks about rods being melted, so I'm guessing the "shapes" the were erected are ritual pillars of some sort (maybe like the pillars we see in All New, Faded For Her). Best guess is the Enchanter thinks Skyhold was the site of some ritual to reveal something - a dream? a memory?

But looks like he messed up.  :P Solas, I believe, translates Skyhold's original name as "the place where the sky was held back". Maybe Skyhold, or at least the place it was built upon, was the site of some important ritual...possibly the creation of the Veil?

But I'm really clutching at straws here!

Aww, come on. :( Lavellan's still got a lotta love to give, right?

I don't know about a whole game but I'd LOVE to go back to the ancient days of Arlathan, to see it...I would love that so much.

Edit: But as my Inquisitor...and with Solas.
