If I headcanon that the offensive comment was not in the game I can actually like Sera, she is fun in a childish way and her baking horrid cookies is what lifted my Lavellan's spirit after the breakup.

 

Sera does have a lot of growing up to do but Solas isn't the one who can or should determine when or how Sera does this.  He himself has a few things he is being a baby about, dumping Lavellan included

Lol.  Sera is one of those people you wish and hope they never breed. I never liked her character.

Ah!  If that's the reference, then you're right.   I have huge lore weakspots, so that theory is out.  

 

So... uh, what exactly did he hand off the orb to Corypheus to do, if he didn't think he was capable of unlocking it?  

 

*note: "capable" here not necessarily having the meaning of "because he's a human mortal", but rather "because unlocking it in these conditions would require an unfathomable amount of blood magic- surely he's not capable of slaughter on that scale."

 

Solas tells Flemythal that he was too weak to active it himself after waking up. Presumably he thought Corypheus could kickstart it but not unlock the full extent of its power. He also doesn't understand how Corypheus survived the Breach opening (my guess is that Cory didn't, he possessed a Warden after getting blown up).

...it would be a nice moment of Genre Savvy for him ><  IMO he's a bit of a disappointment as a villain.

I'm not getting my hopes up for future DLC/sequels providing a really content-rich closure to the romance storyline, since after all it wouldn't be content that the majority of players would see. But I'm pretty sure they'll at least have a few lines or a piece of cutscene or something relating to it, even if just a passing reference in the next DA game.

I can see a future DLC being very Solas-centric, though. It wouldn't necessarily have to have a ton of romance-specific content. Just look at Witch Hunt. It's really only a few lines. But much of the content could work for both a Lavellan who romanced him and an Inquisitor who just wants to know what's up.

It really seems like they're missing part of the story.  Cory was just the beginning of the story.

Morrigan says there isn't a limit to the range on Corypheus's power in the Temple of Mythal. Although it's also possible he had a backup plan for once.

 

Yeah, he was kind of pathetic. I feel like the Corypheus/Breach thing was... set up for a bigger problem with whatever Solas is doing or something to do with all this elven lore we've had heaped on us?

Cory was in the Warden Fortress for a thousand years and he breached the Fade under the orders of Dumat. Solas / Fen'Harel never saw an unblighted Cory

 

Er.   Warden fortress comes after Fade breach, though.

 

1.  Solas wakes up during the glory days of the Tevinter Imperium.  The world is shite.   This is not what he signed up for.

2.  Too weak to use orb himself, he makes a bargain with powerful but mortal human magister (Sethius Amladaris/Corypheus) to get it kickstarted.

3.  Unknown to Solas, Corypheus (and Tevinter at large) has been fed a steady diet of Old-God-driven dreams about the Golden City of Heaven and the power that awaits them there.

4.  Corypheus uses a crapton of slave blood to fully unlock the orb and enter the City.   Unfortunately for him, Dumat's pulled a Greenland and what he finds is a (mostly?) empty city full of blight.  

5.  Corypheus and his crew decide "eh, it'll do", and take the power of the blight for their own.  At this point, we've got Darkspawn!Corypheus.  

6.  First Blight begins.  It's a mess.   Wardens eventually pull their crap together, take down Dumat, trap C in fortress.  

7.  Plot point:  where the hell is the orb at this point?  Tucked away for safe keeping?  Corypheus doesn't seem to have it when Hawke shows up.

8.  DA:2 era.  Hawke breaks into Corypheus' prison and "kills" him.

9.  Safely ensconced in an anonymous body (for now) Corypheus realizes how long he's been trapped and what's happened to the world since.  In a dark mirror of Solas' this-is-not-how-things-are-supposed-to-be moment, he's pretty pissed and starts making plans to fix the world, starting with regaining access to the Black City and taking his rightful place as new God.  Cue recovery of orb, followed by ritual at ToSA. 

10  DA:I begins.

Yeah definitely. I'd be pretty happy with that, and it seems plausible assuming the final scene is teasing an addition/expansion to the DA:I story rather than a whole new game.

 

Funnily enough, I thought the romance ending to Witch Hunt, where the Warden goes with Morrigan, was actually the most satisfying wrap-up to DA:O even though it still ends with the Warden's whereabouts being unknown and Morrigan wandering around on her own 10 years later. So I'm really hoping for something similar there... a regular old "happily ever after" would seem like a cop-out, honestly, but that's not the only way to craft a good ending.

True, I think that's fair to say objectively. You do get the option to have the Inquisitor react in a range of ways from "EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE" to "whatever, that's ancient history", I just picked the former because I like drama, ha.

So, I like to think that this quote from Crusade is applicable for Solas x Lavellan. It's probably one of my favorites from the whole series, to be honest. Technomage Galen on how he fell in love. (Though Solas is pretty slow when it comes to working out his emotions, so it might take him some time to realize it. )

This is a really interesting theory, and does solve the question of why Solas would not be suspicious of something that looks like a walking skeleton. [Or if not a skeleton, obviously infected with the blight.] 

 

I wonder what could have made Solas fall back into a slumber?

Playing today and I started shouting at the screen when Solas said something about taking his promises/responsibilities seriously. I was just like "Eh, suddenly forgot this little line when you fecked off and left my poor little Elf on her own did you? Short bloody memory for someone who can recall the dreams of a million random nobodies!"

 

Heard a thumping noise beside me and saw my own little Wolf staring up at me adoringly, her tail wagging. *sigh* Well at least one canine loves me unconditionally and I can hug her whenever I want. XD
