I think even in terms of the more isolated clans Merrill would be considered hopelessly naive given what a Keepers First is held responsible for .. I don't think it  particularly has to do with whether or not a clan interacts with humans - my DAO Warden was from the same clan as Merrill and would have viewed the DAII Merrill as being ridiculously naive as well and that would be if Mahariel had met DAII Merrill before becoming a Warden and being exposed to human cultures.

Merrill's cluelessness about the outside world could also be partly due to her spending all her time obsessively studying the eluvian and blood magic. That said, it's also one of her defining character traits/flaws in DA2, so she's probably not meant to be typical of all Dalish.

 

I'd almost forgotten that Merrill makes an appearance in DAO as well... will have to play that origin again some time and see how different her character is from DA2.

You can flirt with others, but be careful about always immediately selecting the flirt option when it comes up.  It may have been a bug, but I managed to bork my first Solasmance playthrough by asking a question first and not noticing that the option had vanished after his answer.  He's not like Cullen, who'll sit around pining forever until you finally decide to have a chat "about us".  =w=

This is why when making my first companion rounds in Skyhold I make sure that the one I want as an LI is the first person I go see .. and I make sure to take any and all flirt options available in Haven as well -- thus since Blackwall is glitchy he gets talked to last after Solas or Cullen

I've been looking at the other threads and it surprises me (although it shouldn't) that some people actually find Solas boring or they don't like his voice acting. I guess you do get to know him a lot better if you romance him.

Every one of my friends who've played thus far have left Solas behind, ignoring his stories and conversations almost entirely. So sad. I tried to nudge them, gently, into getting more involved with him, but alas... 

Unfortunately, the stinger left them with a less than enthusiastic, "Oh... that's interesting. I guess..."

Yeah, Solas interested me in the first conversation. I guess not everyone likes the mature intellectual types haha. They probably thought he was a stuffy professor and it reminds them of class or something.

I had a question about the panel a while ago. Does this panel appear after the boss fight, or before?? I'm guessing it's before, but it'd be nice if he came back to start it secretly. BUT because he probably started before the boss fight... Maybe he thought he was going to stick around longer? Or maybe he'll come back and finish it (PLEEEEEEEASE BioWare!).

Another question, guys... I think i've read it somewhere, but I can't find it. This is my first playthrough as a mage (shocking, I know). I'm curious, which specialization does Solas approve of? I was thinking of Knight Enchanter... The other mentors sort of weird me out, haha.

I'm a bit surprised, too... Solas has a very different and interesting perspective. And his voice is incredible. My first playthrough was as a human/archer, and even without the romance, I found him to be so enigmatic, that I needed to rush another PT to romance him. (Dragon Age has consumed my life, since it came out. :| )

Just checked my saves, the panel appears after the Corypheus battle.

He has essentially the same dialogue about all three with flavor differences (like Sera). It may have been, and may still be, bugged but most companions should comment on specialization. He'll approve of all three if you play an elf, I think, and pick the right dialogue options. I don't think he's fond of KE humans and possibly qunari.
