He has essentially the same dialogue about all three with flavor differences (like Sera). It may have been, and may still be, bugged but most companions should comment on specialization. He'll approve of all three if you play an elf, I think, and pick the right dialogue options. I don't think he's fond of KE humans and possibly qunari.

 

Really! I've done two playthroughs choosing Rift Mage and he's never had anything to say about it. Only Cole and Sera. So, I'm betting on bug. Shame, shame.

Well, I'm guessing Solas has more girl fans than guy fans.

Let's be honest, fan threads are mostly made up of people who enjoy a particular character's romance storyline - not at all a bad thing, just seems to usually be the case. I think it's because that's one of the things that players find really engaging about Bioware games, and the more feels evoked by a character's story the more you'll probably be interested in discussing them. Anyway, my point is that character-focused threads probably are self-selecting for fans who enjoy the romances.

 

Personally, I consider myself a fan of most of the DAI main characters, I'm just more attached to some than others.

I didn't even realize this dialogue happened - I think I was pretty behind on companion conversations by the time I finished the specialization quest, so I hadn't yet seen the balcony cutscene and the next time I talked to Solas that triggered instead. After that there never seemed to be any dialogue about specialization like there was with other companions. Possible bug? I guess I'll see it next time, lol.

Yeah, that was the thread I was talking about. It's kind of hard for me to understand how Solas can be boring.

Probably not.  Social media tends to reinforce people's opinions rather than challenging them, since it becomes easier and easier to only see the opinions that line up with yours.

That's kind of the way fandom is, not a lot of people want their views challenged. If they just want to complain about not liking something, that's their prerogative, I guess.

I don't think you're expecting too much. Some people don't appreciate anything other than mindless agreement, but there are people out there who will appreciate you taking the time and effort to do something like that. You just sometimes get the former more than the latter. *hugs*

I don't think you're expecting too much. Some people don't appreciate anything other than mindless agreement, but there are people out there who will appreciate you taking the time and effort to do something like that. You just sometimes get the former more than the latter. *hugs*

Thanks. And yeah, overall I've found the forums to be a really positive place to be, this thread especially. It's weird how far it's come. Back on the old boards around when ME2 was released things regularly got really toxic, but coming back here in preparation for Inquisition's release, it's gotten so much more tolerant.

You're on a discussion board, it's natural to expect discussion. Do you happen to have a link to your post? I find a lot of what you have to say very insightful, so I'd like to read it.

Interesting Character but some just don't like him, i myself admit i find him rather boring, Sera on the other is more grounded i can relate.

People will see what they want to see but it's interesting (to me, at least) that he thinks Viv's tenderness with Bastien or Solas's complete loss of restraint are "more of the same" from their characters. I wonder how he came to that perspective?

Well, we can't expect everyone to like the characters we like. It's just interesting to me that they think he's boring. I get that some people don't like him for being a traitor. Some don't like him for his arrogance and so on, but boring?!

Didn't just call him boring.  Claims Solas and Viv are the worst characters in DA.  

I understand where others come from in regards to Solas and Vivienne.  Especially Vivienne, lol.  I have characters that I adore, and others think suck, and that's fine.  Worst characters?!  Of course I am going to be biased towards Solas because I really like him.  I just can't see how in any way he's so bad that someone would call him one of the worst characters.

Solas is an iceburg of a character.  Unlike Blackwall or Cullen or even Cole, 90% of his depth and tragedy is never directly exposed.  Reading between the lines takes effort, so unless he hooks you early and you're invested enough to dig for it, most people are only going to come away with a hint of what's there.  Doubly so in this case, since his race/gender gated content makes up a significant part of what little direct exposure players get.

 

Pity them- but if they will not listen, do not waste your breath.   They are not his People.  =w=

And there really is just so much to discuss from theories about what he did to what he's planning and his character being both so flawed and so fantastic and how the romance changes how people see him and... well, there's just so much there to think and talk about.

I think another issue is that he just has less content than the other characters (and his last quest is freaking bugged). I wonder if they gave him fewer scenes and dialogue to prevent people from guessing the ending. Regardless, that strategy doesn't work when players don't get invested enough to care about what happens to Solas. I think they should have added more content to make people more attached to Solas, but just greater care in not giving us too many hints.

Hey I'm divided about Sera. I really like her mischievious side and love how she questions authority and dogma. She and Solas have a lot more in common than either would admit.

But some of her writing turns me cold for her, with the offensiveness of it, so I pretend it's not in the game and then I have more fun with her. She isn't perfect by any means but she can make Lavellan laugh after having her heart ripped out so she is a BFF.
