Ah, Solas.  Just finished my first play through at just over 170 hours. WOW.  Not unexpected but my Lavellan rogue is still sad, she was enough of a student of Elvhen lore to see the writing on the wall though (even is she wasn't quite sure where he fit in she knew he was no simple hedge mage).  And that bit after the credits - OH MY.  Now I can't wait to see what happens next (probably tragedy for my Lavellan though).

I think he says something kind of grumpy about the Chantry? Maybe it changes based on approval. I know a human KE can pick the right option and he's cheerful enough about it.

I think everyone is hoping that there's something more to the romance. I'm expecting tragedy right along with you ladies though. Someone made a joke way too long ago about the heart for Solas's flirts should be a caution sign.

Haha, he gave plenty of warnings but was too enticing to turn away from Back when we were still just praying for a Solas romance I remember saying I'd accept any kind of romance with him as long as he was an option, even if it was tragic or never went past holding hands/snuggling.  It's all my fault!  Hmm, and Allan asked many months ago if we'd still want a Solas romance if we had to pay for it in tears.  I paid the price and it was totally worth it

 

I keep trying to start a new playthrough with a human or qunari but it's hard to think of playing anything other than an elf right now, and then I know I'd end up back with him again.  Is that something that might just fade with time?

I feel you. Mass Effect 3 was even worse for me - I was actually legitimately sad for like a couple of days after THAT ending.

 

Right now I'm trying to figure out which other romance sounds the LEAST tragic for my next playthrough. Josephine? Cullen? Maybe Iron Bull or Sera, but I like them better as buddies... I'm pretty sure Cassandra's and Dorian's romances involve too many feels... Blackwall definitely too angsty.

I tried a Cullenmance but could barely get past Skyhold and only because I refused to talk with Solas and hear his voice cold, not warm and passionate as he is for an LI

 

Had better luck with a male quizzy. You can get a god "bro" vibe going and there is no chance you can romance him. Cass is a good romance I think

If anyone is interested, I spied a prompt on the kinkmeme a while ago that I haven't been able to get out of my head... Soooo I'm filling it. It's AU back in the days of Arlathan where Solas/Fen'Harel is given F!Lavellan who was a slave, and he tries to coax her out of her acting/thinking like she's still a slave. (And then *very predictable spoilers* they fall in love)

@ Tigrae - nice find on the song.  And, oh does it fit Solas.  That one is probably worth a link in the FAQ on the first post of the thread.

Solas seems to me to be such a tragic figure.  This is probably stuff that has been gone over many times already but here's my take on our dear Dread Wolf.  I suspect from comments that Solas made throughout the game that none of the Elvhen gods were actually gods, just very powerful mages and leaders (kings, queens, ect.) that came to be worshipped.  They may have been little different than Tevinter magisters, but each likely with their own kingdom and the power of centuries of magical practice and experimentation at their disposal.  I suspect Solas/Fen'Harel made a number of mistakes through his own arrogance that he later came to regret.  Add that to his suspicious role in what I believe was a war among the Elvhen "gods" and the matter of Mythal's murder and he carries around centuries worth of guilt beneath all his arrogance.  Add to that his failure to make good choices (the orb) when he awoke and we have a character who feels he needs to remain a mystery at all costs (either the Inquisitor would think he is crazy or that he is as bad as Corypheus). 

 

Poor Solas, I might even create an Inquisitor who will let him remove her vallaslin just to make him feel better.  I do hope (although I suspect my hope is in vain) that we can separate him from the Mythal/Old God possession and give him a second chance. 

 

Just my crazy speculation.

So much this. I got over Anders, I got over Bishop and I got over Atton. I CAN GET OVER SOLAS TOO.

Man I'm still reeling from that painting on Lavellan's bedroom. One of the wolves has white hair on it's tail like my LAvellan, the other has no hair on it's tail, bald like Solas. Both of them carry Thedas on their back, from Skyhold...

 

Would be such a lovely perfect ending for my Lavellan if she and Solas stayed as Thedas guardians, in their impenetrable fortress that holds the Sky

 

Wonder if that is the fate he wants to spare her from: Eternal slumber protecting the vail from the fade, and protecting Thedas people and spirits from monsters like Cory that would rip the fade open. Solas, you and Lavellan can do it together you silly wolf!

Silly headcanon:

I tricked myself into playing another romance on my second playthrough.

Although I normally don't play the same romance twice, because it feels like cheating on my first character, I wasn't sure if I was able to resist Solas. However, I really wanted to play another female Lavellan for Cullen, instead of a human.

So I made my new character my first Inquis' sister, pretending the other one would be around the whole time

Alternative reality absurdity, but it worked so far

LOL, planning a Lavellan mage for Cullen next.  Not sure if I'm up to the tragedy of another Solas romance yet.  And I still have 5 more Inquisitors planned with various romances.  I'll have to come back to the Solas romance at some point though -  I still think it will be my favorite, even with the tears.

How did you guys think Solas' romance was going to be like before you knew everything? I thought he was going to be a shy and awkward nerd. He's going to do cute things for you and not know how to be romantic. Or else he's going to be a very serious person and the romance would be more stoic. It turns out he's very experienced, smooth, and passionate . Really took me by surprise.

 

I never expected to romance him when I first got into the game. I was planning on going for Cullen or Blackwall. Heck, when I first met Solas, I thought he was a bit of a nerd (a charming nerd with a nice voice) and decided to flirt with him a bit. Like some people, I thought he was going to be awkward and shy (like Alistair) but then when you listen to some of the smooth lines he says, and then see the way he kissed... Not to mention the whole "fade-tongue" dialogue. Yeah, totally wasn't expecting that. xD

 

 

I've been looking at the other threads and it surprises me (although it shouldn't) that some people actually find Solas boring or they don't like his voice acting. I guess you do get to know him a lot better if you romance him.

 

 

Every one of my friends who've played thus far have left Solas behind, ignoring his stories and conversations almost entirely. So sad. I tried to nudge them, gently, into getting more involved with him, but alas... 

Unfortunately, the stinger left them with a less than enthusiastic, "Oh... that's interesting. I guess..."

 

 

I could understand why some people would find him boring. I mean, he does talk about spirits and the Fade quite a lot.  (I just love listening to all the lore he spouts from that lovely mouth of his. Give me ALL the lore!!!)

It's pretty sad knowing that there are those who leave him behind or don't even talk to him but unfortunately, there's nothing we could really do about it.

But to me (and I guess also for a lot of people here) he's one of the most captivating and complex characters Bioware has done. 

 

I thought I was done feeling sad, but damn, this art made me sad again.

Hey I'm divided about Sera. I really like her mischievious side and love how she questions authority and dogma. She and Solas have a lot more in common than either would admit.

But some of her writing turns me cold for her, with the offensiveness of it, so I pretend it's not in the game and then I have more fun with her. She isn't perfect by any means but she can make Lavellan laugh after having her heart ripped out so she is a BFF.

 

 

I sort of have a love-hate thing for Sera. For one, she does make me laugh and I love being able to pull pranks with her for some fun (Maker knows my Lavellan needs a bit of fun). But then when we get to talking about the Dalish, that's when she starts to tick me off. Especially her gloating after the Temple of Mythal quest and after you have your vallaslin removed (if you chose to do so). 

 

I mean, I guess I could understand why she's like that. People have given good explanations on Sera's personality and why she thinks the way she does. I guess she's just not exactly my cup of tea.
