I think this is interesting I remember reading it before but for what ever reason did not revisit it. I think it could be be very relevant later.......I do remember thinking Corybutt had a wifey...WWWHHHAAATTT!?

I'm a little sad Cory didn't get more development. That note suggests that his story is kind of tragic.

I think that the gods are trapped somewhere in a fade bubble, behind a locked eluvian.......asleep.

But seriously, that is really interesting that OGB says the same thing to a Qunari.  I would be interested to know the exact phrasing.  Especially since it is kind of implied that the Qunari were "created".  Bioware isn't really in the habit of throwing out slips of dialogue without there being a shred of truth in it.  I would love if the Qunari were an experiment on elven slaves and dragons gone horribly wrong ... or right?  And they fled the mainland to escape their cruel masters.

Their culture and extremely odd social structure could definitely have orginated from an ex-slave mentality.  I don't know.  It's interesting.  I should play a tal-vashoth sometime, but they can't snuggle Solas.  :(

Agreed, there was a lot of potential there to humanize the Magisters who entered the Black City and to explore what made Corypheus the man he was today. I'm not sure if it was a fever dream or not, but I do distinctly remember Cole having a banter with someone on the matter that I wanted to hear more of. I forget who it was though.

I was a little disappointed by this also. I think they had a lot to work with there and I am a sucker for a bad guy that I can relate to in some way. Kind of like Iago from Othello. At first you think that he is so evil because he was looked over for a promotion, but n reality he was jealous of Othello, because he believed he slept with his wife....It made me hate Iago a little less. Instead, we got a being who wanted to take godhood for himself, for no apparent reason other than power...

Hmm, I keep thinking about the world outside of Thedas. The humans and Qunari supposedly originally came from the north. Why did they migrate over to the south and mess up the elves homeland? I wonder if it's somehow related to the issue between Solas and the other gods.

Agreed. I wanted more. His end battle was very anti-climactic. Though I love all his one liners throughout the game... he was so boss in Legacy, we needed more of that. More crazy elemental AOEs that were so bloody difficult and more of a lead up to his fight.

Yeah, I think that was the final nail in the coffin for me in regards to his character. Not only was most of his development kept from being explored, we also were given a fairly lackluster end fight...

So, I was watching the argument between Solas and Morrigan about the dread wolf....Again. What if his function was similar to wolf companions of the Emerald Knights. Another thing that I noticed is that during the scene with Solas and Flemeth the eluvian statues feature both the dread wolf and mythal.. Any thoughts?

I agree I would have loved more development on Corypenis.  However, it makes me wonder why they chose not to.  They really spared no expense at deepening the rest of our lore library and adding in new layers to the world.  And Solas, and many others, are so well-written and dynamic.  Which makes me wonder ...

That note in the Fade made it seem like Corypenis' entire mentality changed after exposure to ... something.  So what if entering the Black City was not what started the taint and instead was a form of possession.  Corypenis was unlucky enough to have been exposed along with the other Magisters.  So they enter the Black City and ... strengthen the power of whatever is trapped there.

So I guess my point is that maybe Corypenis did not get plot development, because he truly is that single minded.  He's possessed.  To reveal more than that would cause the writers to "show their hand" and let slip what happened in the Black City.  I think that eventually we will understand exactly what happened and then we'll look back at Corypenis and go "Oh, I get it."

I hope so.  Of course I have fully indulged in the Well of Bioware and drank the koolaid.  So don't mind me.

Somewhere out there David Gaider is chuckling at this. It's also 100% true.

 ((@_@))

Erk.   I hope not.   That is a terrifying thought.

I assume those guys have better things to do than lurk in the forums.  I can't imagine how unbearably frustrating it would be for them to read through nutbag theory posts like the ones we toss around in here.    =w=

"Andraste's flaming knickers!   We dropped so many goddamn hints about that thing, and they're still just not getting it..."

BW doesn't seem to humanize their bad guys too much. Meredith wasn't particularly warm and fuzzy either. It sounds like Corypheus was scared of something, but we only have that one note...

Also Othello is the best. My favorite Shakespeare play.

I don't suppose anyone wants to post the contents of that codex or note since for some reason I can't make it big enough to read on my phone. :( I know it would be a hassle so it's ok I can wait till tomorrow to look at it on PC.

I only got to play for a bit this weekend but I had to laugh at how nearly panicky Solas gets at adamant about waking the old gods to preempt the blight. I'm not romancing him this playthrough (I'm saving it for updates/good hair) but it's funny how much more you notice about him and what he says.

I have been wondering if it was something similar to possession as well. He did do some kind of ritual. It is a high possibility that he carried the taint into the black city. Maybe retribution from the old gods?

True, I don't know. I'd have even taken something akin to Irenicus, who Cory is essentially cut from the same cloth of, or Sun Li. Both were nonredeemable in the eyes of the player, but both were extremely compelling even with the latter being an out and out sociopath. I do hope we get more, even if it doesn't humanize him all that much or make him sympathetic. Just more to go on would be amazing.

think it is a matter of perspective? Cory is definitely mad, and considering all the mess at hand, companions are not likely to distract quizzy by suggesting you know he has a sad past blah blah blah... think they actually try to  convince inquisitor that Cory is insane and has to be stopped

  • 6:30 Steel: The Qunari come to Thedas from across the Northern Ocean and land in Par Vollen. They conquer it quickly, though word of that does not reach the continent.[13]

That's why I believe that the humans and Qunari came from the north. Maybe something happen in their original homeland like "Winter is coming." Perhaps the blight originated in the North and people were fleeing from it. The elven gods got corrupted as a result so Solas sealed them away. But Solas was not able to completely seal off the blight so we still have them once every hundred years or so.

He could have carried the taint.

I've been trying to find a way to say what is in my head and put it into words.  Let me try again.

Imagine the Black City is a cage.  I'm not going to speculate what is in there.  There are many possibilities.  So the caged things are trying to get out, but they can't.  So they make a tiny hole and spread their influence through it.  Now they manage to get a hold of and possess the magisters, Corypenis and his bros.  They trick them into coming to their cage by telling them it's Golden and beautiful.  When the Magisters get there they can't get into the cage, but they manage to widen the holes and are then cast out to spread the influence of the caged ones.

This makes sense to me as the goal of Corypenis and possibly the Archdemons was to get back to the Black City.  To finish what they started?  I can't understand why Corypenis would want to go back there.  He even says it was a mistake and a lie.  And he's still trying to get back, of course this time he was trying to get back with the orb so maybe that was to free the trapped ones?

But, have a Solas screenshot instead of something insightful! (Because this face...)

The theory my husband's floating on this is that they're the equivalent of the Puritains leaving Europe- religious fanatics no longer welcome in their homeland.

While we're on the subject of random things that don't sit quite right, though, does anyone have an explanation as to why Fen'Harel is the only god in the pantheon who's not depicted as an elf in the ToM murals?   I have an itchy feeling like it's a dropped hint, but can't put my finger on exactly why.  Assuming he could shapeshift like Mythal doesn't quite cover it- there's no hint of dragon in her mosaic.

It just seems a bit odd that, instead of depicting him as an elf with wolfy elements like the rest, they go full wolf.  It masks his entire not-Dread-Wolf identity, obliterating his pre-fall-of-Arlathan domain that should have been hinted at there.

*baffled shrug*

Maybe they are angry at him so they don't want to even depict him in his elven form.

Werewolves are common in Fereldan folklore.  Perhaps he's a werewolf?

About the qunari: I find it interesting that the lore I was reading here and there about the internet suggested that the qunari rid themselves of any that wouldn't convert.  The notion that the originals are still hanging around was kind of surprising, especially since it had been shot down in a discussion I was part of concerning the qunari origin once we heard that they were playable.

I've got a qunari I still haven't done Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts with. I think Morrigan had an OGB Kieran in that world state. If she did, I'll let you know what Kieran says. (Unless someone beats me to it before then. lol)
