I was told by my sister (who plays a mage Lavellan) that being a mage is so much fun. I should really try that. Though I admit, I just love being an archer!
I'm currently playing a 2-handed warrior male Trevelyan and I'm not really feeling it. I miss fighting in long range. Maybe I should make a male Lavellan mage (because I love playing an elf and wanna play a male playthrough and romance Cassandra) or a female mage Trevelyan for a Cullen romance.
My first character was a mage, and as much fun as it was, I'm actually enjoying being an archer rogue more. Stealthing and jumping around is just too much fun, and I like doing it more now that I know Solas appreciates these "side benefits"
So, who in here agrees with me that Solas would be sorted into Slytherin?
(And I would have whole-hearted put him in Ravenclaw before the game came out, ha.)
I agree he could go into Slytherin, but he could fit in Ravenclaw as well. I think he would ask the sorting hat for Ravenclaw, because that would let him stay more... under the radar. He seems to like being underestimated.
Nah, I think I'd still put him in Ravenclaw..if I was the sorting hat.
I for sure thought I was going to put him in Ravenclaw, but after playing the game? I’m super inclined to Slytherin (also, the picture of a FIGHT THE POWER slytherin is just the best). I think Solas does like knowledge for knowledge’s sake, and yet… he’s a super goal-driven individual, whose tactics really coincide with the Slytherin house (cunning, manipulation, etc). I don’t see him as the absent minded professor type anymore, and there are a lot of conversations he has with others that seem to support this. His conversation with Sera where he’s just so confused about there not being a masterplan to her organization comes to mind.

He smiles too much to be in Slytherin
But I guess he could be in either...for different reasons...
I'm still catching up I love reading all your theories and speculation! It blows my mind!
Mythal: Honey, I'm just concerned. You're running around with wolves ... just talk to me, please.
Fen'harel: I needed to get away for a while. *tosses hair broodily*
Mythal: Honey your father and I love you, but this is getting out of hand.
Fen'harel: God, you don't even understand me! Get out of my room!
*Mythal withdraws shaking her head*
Fen'harel: I'm going to build a new world and only invite the cool people.
*cue the Fall of Arlathan and the destruction of the Elvhen empire*
Reunion scene by the waterfall:
SOLAS: Then what I must tell you...the truth...your hair...all of it...in my journeys in the fade I have seen things, I have discovered what having hair means.
LAVELLAN: Solas, I thought we'd been over that you didn't really see all these things "in the Fade" so --
SOLAS: No. Only slaves have hair. Or at least they did in the time of Arlathan
LAVELLAN: Creators, seriously Solas again?!
Solas: If you like, I have a spell that can make you permanently bald.
Lavellan: *walks away*
... and then this happens, after all the wild specutation. I love you guys so much XD

Might be a few pages out for this but I thought that the Old Gods were untouched and uncorrupted by the Blight and only became Archdemons when the darkspawn reached them. Could it be that the Blight and Darkspawn was an attempt by one of the Elvhen Gods to kill their rival Gods and when Solas sees this horrible plague and that is spreading through the people, he locks away the target Gods in the hope that this would end the Blights as they can't be reach. He probably didn't count on the Darkspawn being led by a "song" and finding them anyway, nor did he probably know that once corrupted the Gods would lead a Blight and so many would be destroyed.
Imagine that you went to all that trouble to lock away your friends for their own protection and then to wake up and find out that you not only didn't succeed but that people are out there trying to kill them before they are even corrupted. Perhaps that's his goal, to awaken the Old Gods before they are corrupted in the hopes that together they could find a way to end the Blight? Perhaps only by bringing back the Gods, both Elvhen and Forgotten, and forcing the one who created the Blight in the first place to undo his work, is the only way to ever truly stop the Blight.
Oh man, I completely love random speculation. You could write a thousand different histories of Thedas just from the theories in this thread alone (and each one would be awesome).

Can someone please clarify for me something I read upthread?
Did Abelas at any point during the Well of Sorrow’s quest know who Solas was?
I rushed through this faster than I should have (as I was anxious to finish the game at that point and start over) and think maybe I missed it.
I don't think Abelas ever figured out "Fen'Harel" but Solas will say, "Yes, Elvhen like me" and Abelas seems to understand that for being ancient elf at the very least.
Drinking my morning coffee, good morning. Phew this thread moves like lightening!
Just musing on the attraction of Solas: I must say I was watching a bunch of youtube vids in bed last night and some of the let's play vids the instantaneous reactions to Solas were annoying. "He's so weird! omg!" I guess the only reason why is I see Solas being so attractive because not only is he intelligent and mysterious but he's borderline stoic. And somewhere upthread someone mentioned that he speaks in iambic pentameter? NO WONDER I'm amazed! Because not only the quality of his absolutely stellar VA but the delivery . I think he's got the same gravitas that Spock has (and yeah I'm pretty sure Spock is a huge fan with the ladies but I'm not well versed in Star Trek fan shenanigans) but exhibits restrained passion in his speech. Of course that's like waving a huge red flag in front of Lavellan's face
I just got my first line of ultra delicious flirtation from Solas yesterday afternoon. He's my favorite LI in DAI and character of the entire game.
For everyone that thinks he's just too "weird" they made frat boy IB and Sera (p.s. I pretty much love everyone in my entire crew in DAI, but that doesn't mean I want my character to sleep with them or have their pic somewhere in my RL house ).
I've got a qunari I still haven't done Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts with. I think Morrigan had an OGB Kieran in that world state. If she did, I'll let you know what Kieran says. (Unless someone beats me to it before then. lol)
OGB Kieran says to a qunari Inquisitor:
"I noticed your blood. It doesn't belong to your people."
Kinda... even creepier than what he says to an elf Inquisitor, which is:
"No. Your blood is very old. I saw it right away."
EDIT: *sighhh*... Now I gotta make my billionth Inquisitor and have her be a dwarf this time so I can see what OGB Kieran says to a dwarf. Can't find any youtube videos of it. :'(

Solas is the man for we Sapiosexual ladies (or gents). Patrick Weekes is himself a god for creating him.

Not that he was Fen'Harel, but I do think he realized he was an ancient elf. He treated Solas with far more respect, called him elvhen (and a dalish inquisitor a shem), and seemed to realize Solas had a lot of ancient knowledge.
Something I tweeted the other day for instance "The thought of Solas and my Lavellan essentially creating poetry together when they talk has pretty much set my fangirl pants on fire". I was already sold on him a long time ago, but I found myself shocked at how invested I was in him and in Solavellan, this is a big reason why!

Massive Solas artifact update dump. Link to previous post featuring all other cataloged artifact locations thus far: http://forum.bioware...5#entry18051560
In this post, I detail how to get to the final Western Approach artifact, went back and fetched the two I missed in the Hinterlands, one I missed in the Storm Coast, and the first one I've stumbled upon now in the Emerald Graves.
Warning, I do have some spoilers in the below descriptions as far as War Table operations and whatnot.
Final Western Approach Artifact:
Spoiler
This one can only be obtained after you solve all three Astrarium puzzles. Once that is done, a cave will open up near one of the camps just south of Griffon Wing Keep:
And here is an overall map showing the locations of the three Astrariums, which are the circular icons with a white diamond inside them. They are all largely in the northern areas of the map:
Next, I wandered back to the Hinterlands to grab the two I had completely missed. The first one you get is the one that starts the whole quest, marked with the "Beyond The Veil" quest marker. Here are the second and third...
Second:
Spoiler
This one is upstairs in Lornan's Exile. I had actually discovered it prior to getting the"Beyond The Veil" quest, so I was unable to interact with it and then promptly forgot its existence. So, obviously, it can only be activated once you've completed "Beyond The Veil" by activating that very first Hinterlands artifact.
To get to it, enter Lornan's Exile, then turn right. It's at the top of that tower, so you'll climb up two sets of ladders and it is on the balcony outside:
Third and final Hinterlands artifact:
Spoiler
This one is hiding in plain sight... Solas would be proud! I somehow missed scavenging this one abandoned farmhouse near Master Dennet the Horsemaster's farm:
Here is a picture of the house on the left with Master Dennet's farm on the right in the background, to give you a better idea of which house:
The last one in the Storm Coast is in an area that is inaccessible until you complete a certain War Table operation:
Spoiler
After I had captured Griffon Wing Keep in the Western Approach, I got a notification of a new War Table operation that had become available. The title was something like "Red Lyrium Templar Outpost in the Storm Coast". Once you complete that operation, the dwarven thaig-looking place that I couldn't enter before was now open:
This one is tricky. It's stuck behind a big door that cannot be opened without a Red Templar Key:
You can go around the other side of this area and Solas will sense his artifact there, but you are blocked by a broken bridge which apparently cannot be energized by a mage to be fixed or anything. I was pretty sure I did not pick up a key when I fought the final Templars in the area, so I tore my hair out for a little bit. Then, I backtracked the whole dungeon and found the key on a random corpse I'd somehow missed near the beginning. Moral of the Story: CAREFULLY CHECK ALL CORPSE LOOTS. Once you have the key, you open the door and there it is:
And finally, my last update for the day: I am now working on fully clearing out the Emerald Graves. There are said to be four of Solas's artifacts here. I have found the first:
Spoiler
Completely randomly stumbled upon it! There is a Fade Rift in this area that you go to close and I saw it sitting there in the background:
Happy hunting!

Okay thanks, I was confused because I thought I had missed something major there.
I missed things a lot during that first playthrough because 1) I wasn't romancing Solas. 2) I didn't know who Solas was, really. 3) I was just trying to get it done.
I have one playthrough where I romanced Solas but I only got to Skyhold before quitting- then I restarted with a human romancing Cullen again.
I want my Dalish playthrough to be perfect and I want it all patched before I start it. And possibly to have better hair.
Did anyone hear anything about an ETA on the Xbox one patch?
That's it, I still haven't finished the game so I no nothing about Solas' character arc but is it worth romancing him? Should I do itttttttt? I need you guys to push me in the right direction.
Also, I noticed two things while I was playing yesterday:
Has anyone really looked closely at the wolves Solas painted in his room in Skyhold? Like, REALLY, really looked at them? I hadn't before and found this interesting... look at how the two wolves in the background are white. Then, the two in the foreground are black... but then their heads turn to gray.
Somehow alluding to black and white thinking vs the gray mentality Solas has?
I also did "Here Lies The Abyss" (oh, God, my feels ) yesterday. Besides being vastly amused by just how much Solas initially nerdgasms when you get there, I found the Eluvians interesting. All the ones there are broken, but it's only this VERY FIRST ONE you encounter that has two bodies below it.
I would be curious if they're always there for everybody. Because my first thought was the Dalish origins in DAO and my heart cried out, "Tamlen!" And then I was confused because he came back as a shriek later and attacked the Warden's camp, plus, why would there be TWO bodies... and then it dawned on me that the Warden I imported for this playthrough was my City Elf. So... without Duncan's intervention, is that the potential Dalish Warden and Tamlen dead after touching the tainted Eluvian?
That's it, I still haven't finished the game so I no nothing about Solas' character arc but is it worth romancing him? Should I do itttttttt? I need you guys to push me in the right direction.
Have you talked to the man? Yessss do it! But be warned: it's nothing for you if you expect a fluffy, happy romance.
Personally I found the romance scenes with him really good, although he has less than other romance options I think.

Nah, I have a fluffy romance with Cullen so looking to switch it up for my next play-through. Plus, I have the cutest little dalish elf save just sitting there and she can't go to waste.
