Both of Solas's first romance scenes still happen with a non-romance. They just don't include the romantic content.
Which is why it makes it seem like he might have a crush on a female Quizzy, regardless of race if they get along.
Because the balcony scene changes from "I haven't forgotten about the kiss." to "...I deeply respect you.".
If every inquisitor gets the "I deeply respect you" line if enough approval is gained, then I think that's a sure sign that s/he and Solas' story is not finished yet.
!!!
In his next tweet, PW said you get friendly wolves if you equip the necklace you got from beating the demon controlling the wolves in the hinterlands!
I really hope I didn't sell that...
Sadly, I think that is ONLY for the Hinterlands wolves.
Which I'll never know because it seems I ended up killing all of them before I killed the demon, so all I have is the necklace and no nice comment from Solas about freeing the wolves from demonic possession. ![]()
And I can tell you for a FACT that wearing that thing does NOT make wolves anywhere else friendly. I wore it for a very long time afterwards because it made me think of Solas (LOL) and I had pack after pack throw themselves at me in the Exalted Plains. ![]()
Speaking of approval, is it possible to max someone's? I'm not getting the "solas slightly approves" anymore when I activate artifacts. Even Bull doesn't approve anymore if I kill Venatori
Is it a bug?
If it's not, it surprises me because I have the wardens as allies and I kept him from killing the mages, but I still managed to max the approval... I might drink from the well just to test it lol.
Wah, maybe we're both sunk!
I want to do Solas' spirit friend quest!
His approval should be fairly easy to get, just exhaust all Investigate options when you talk to him, every single time. Pretty much every f/u question you ask him gives you "Slightly Approves." I just find that I had to kind of swallow my conscience a tiny bit, by choosing options that have me saying things like "messing around with spirits are cool!!111one!" and "blood magic is interesting!!" even though I played my Trevelyan mage as a faithful Andrastian and believer in the Circle system, and I actually think these spirits are too similar to demons for comfort and I don't like blood magic...
After you get to Skyhold there's a repeatable option that says: "Tell me about your journeys in the fade" that comes with 3 Investigative options: (1. Tell me about a spirit you encountered, 2. Tell me about old ruins, and 3. Tell me about memories). You can repeat this 3 times for a total of 9 "Solas Slightly Approves." : D It wasn't until my second playthrough before I figured out that he actually says something different each time, until after the third round then he says, I've told you everything of note.
Only tricky part during conversations to get Disapproval is if you're Dalish and talking to him about your background. He really disapproves if you're "Dalish and proud."
All the Solas artifacts you activate with him in the party gives you Slightly Approves.

Probably maxed, I tend to max out his approval really fast, and I don't even try...

Second play as human quiz who is always 100% best buds with Solas but no option to romance, so no romance for her ;-;. Yet I cannot bring myself to play an elf, I'm just not an elfy person. How come Solas prefers the company of spirits and yet be bound by the race of a physical body? I am so broken ;-;.

because lore. Due to what he is in combination with many elves disliking the idea of having relations with non-elves it's not too hard to understand.
For example it was a bit of a scandal in Origins when Sorin runs off and marries a human woman.

Honestly, it's worth doing at least once from a story perspective even if it's not something you otherwise want to run with as your usual "canon" stuff. Makes the lore and some of the dialogue that much more involved.
I get you though, hard for me to play something like a dwarf even though my favorite Origins run was with one.
Go figure.
Has anyone done a playthrough with Solas hating your guts? (This may well be the wrong thread to ask this question, I know) What happens?

Honestly? I think it's a combination of budget and the fact that the romance contains a lot of elf-specific stuff. I really do see why they made him exclusive to elves, and I was one of those people who was really annoyed at the heavy gating. There's a whole 'nother layer of meaning there if you play an elf. I don't think it's necessarily because Solas would only ever be attracted to elves (though keeping his past in mind, it's a definite possibility), but more because it's the story that Bioware wanted to tell.
Even if you're not particularly fond of elves, I'd recommend rolling a female dalish for the romance. It's worth it.
And I also get the sense that he's sort of sweet on an Inquisitor who has high approval, even if they don't romance him. Just a feeling I got. I mean, c'mon, that balcony scene. But it seems that only an elf gets to take the initiative. ![]()

About 20 pages ago there was a discussion concerning immortal/mortal relationship and how it might play out for Lavellan and Solas. Most people assume Solas is immortal, which honestly I think makes perfect sense seeing as he's, ya know, Fen'harel and all, but what I've not seen anyone bring up is: If he's immortal, why would his greatest fear be dying alone?
If he's immortal... he can't die (naturally), so wouldn't his fear then be "living alone" or perhaps something more like "never being understood"? Maybe this is a clue that he's not really immortal.
Of course there is the possibility "dying alone" is meant figuratively, like maybe the day he chooses to enter uthenera for the last time, or he could just mean "if I get killed somehow", but I just don't see it that way. When someone's fear is dying alone, it means dying is a real possibility, and that you are afraid you won't have time to make lasting connections or find love. So, yeah, it just seems weird to me that an immortal's fear would be about dying alone (and not just "death").
Also this is totally random and not related to Solas, but have you guys found the hut in Redcliffe where it's revealed that the Oculara are created by the Tevinter using Tranquil skulls? I just found it for the first time today and was like omg that is seriously f'ed up. Makes me not want to use them anymore but I gotta get the completes ![]()

There are some videos up on youtube of the scene you get if you drop his approval low enough. It actually gives pretty interesting insight into his character to see him so angry with the inquisitor. The inquisitor can punch him at the end of that conversation, which is kinda sad, though.

Yeah, that creeped me out and was one of the few times I agreed with Vivienne.
So who else had a horrible thought of Lavellan getting a special staff made and calling it Solas, thus becoming another version of Varric and Bianca? They can travel together cracking bittersweet jokes about their heartbreak *sobs*
Seriously, though, I imagine Lavellan would be capable of moving on some day with the love of her friends to help. I think the one I'm worried about the most is Solas...
This description of Tower make it sound like it could be less terrible than it appears.
"If you choose to let go of what you no longer need, and accept what you do need, things will go much more smoothly and without frustration. If you ignore the warning of the Tower, however, and cling to the status quo, be prepared for a downfall."
I think this sounds like two plausible paths for Solas to take.

Lore. It makes the relationship more meaningful. He throws some serious shade at the Dalish.."maybe we should plant a tree to commemorate the moment" being my favorite. So for him to overcome his own prejudices and fall in love with an elf inquisitor enough to see a future with her(albeit briefly) is important to his character arc.
I do recommend playing as an elf though. Given how important Solas is in this game and possibly future games, the relationship adds an intresting layer to it.

Wow, I never really gave much thought to the Tarot card thing but apparently BW did. That's awesome.

What really creeped me out - and I am saying this as someone who has professional interest in dead things and skulls and bones - was how you hear the grinding scrape of bone on stone while turning the skulls to look for shards. I do not get heebie jeebies easily, but that did it to me. Eugh. ![]()

If there is never any kind of resolution or word from Solas in the future (which I hope isn't the case), then I'll headcanon my Lavellan moving on though never forgetting him. It's too sad to picture her holding onto her love for him like Varric/Bianca and never letting herself find someone else.
Thought I'd come in and say hi. Currently catching up on thread reading. I stayed away from any DAI news before the game was launched, but knew that Cullen would be there and had my eyes set to romance him. Heck, I'd been waiting for that romance since I first play DAO five years ago.
But then of course, this pajamas wearing, bald elf came in, swooped my Lavellan off her feet before he broke her heart. Well done, Weekes. This is the first time in any DA game that I've chosen an elf over a human. Can't wait to see how the Solas story goes.

Hi, haven't been in BSN for awhile, but I just skimmed through the topic and noticed this.
I've been doing a series of disapproval scenes with companions, I have some videos of him totally hating your guts. It might be something of interest for ya' all to discuss

lines 002117 to 2318 (there are 2 lines about the maker that don't belong to the dialog but the rest is alistair and morrigan)
Where is this dialog / text file thing located? Can I get it on The Internet or is it in my game files?
