Anyone else imagining "Listen with your heart" from Pocahontas playing when Lavellan figures out his true identity?

So who else had a horrible thought of Lavellan getting a special staff made and calling it Solas, thus becoming another version of Varric and Bianca?  They can travel together cracking bittersweet jokes about their heartbreak *sobs*

 

Seriously, though, I imagine Lavellan would be capable of moving on some day with the love of her friends to help.  I think the one I'm worried about the most is Solas...

I play very... One-romance-ever sort of elves. I think in part from the story of my parents in origin's Dalish opening. I couldn't romance anyone that game because of Tamlen. I triggered Tamlen's romance flag and just...

So I mean my Lavellan probably would do something like that.

And then not move on because I'm too much of a romantic.

Did you actually do it?  You should!  Craft a Keeper Staff with all your mad dragon lootz and rename the crafted item Solas.  Hehe.

If there is never any kind of resolution or word from Solas in the future (which I hope isn't the case), then I'll headcanon my Lavellan moving on though never forgetting him.  It's too sad to picture her holding onto her love for him like Varric/Bianca and never letting herself find someone else.

 

I don't see that either. At least for my character. She's old enough to have loved before, had children, lost partners... at this point romance with Solas was nice and preferably a continuing thing, but even if she never sees him again she can get on with her life and do whatever duty calls for her. She doesn't need to have someone else there. She probably wasn't even looking for such when she met up with Solas, but hey. Dude's charming. What can she say.

 

Though I do kind of like the idea of crafting a weapon and naming it something commemorative. I will also fully admit to naming a set of armor "Elven Glory." Do not judge me. You wanted to do it too. I know it.

Yes, I agree. Lavellan is surrounded by friends and at the center of many social circles, while Solas tends to remain alone when possible. Even when he interacts with people outside the Fade, Solas does not generally seem to be interested in forming meaningful relationships with anyone. So I can see how it would be easy for Lavellan to move on, but difficult for Solas to find someone he feels a deep connection with again.

Honestly? I think it's a combination of budget and the fact that the romance contains a lot of elf-specific stuff. I really do see why they made him exclusive to elves, and I was one of those people who was really annoyed at the heavy gating. There's a whole 'nother layer of meaning there if you play an elf. I don't think it's necessarily because Solas would only ever be attracted to elves (though keeping his past in mind, it's a definite possibility), but more because it's the story that Bioware wanted to tell.

 

Even if you're not particularly fond of elves, I'd recommend rolling a female dalish for the romance. It's worth it.

 

And I also get the sense that he's sort of sweet on an Inquisitor who has high approval, even if they don't romance him. Just a feeling I got. I mean, c'mon, that balcony scene. But it seems that only an elf gets to take the initiative. 

 

Thanks, this makes me feel a little better ! I noticed in vids that Solas seems to be alllll about the body language in romance scenes, and understanding the limitations of that body language as specific to the female elf frame in regards to cinematic design, budget etc is... acceptable. I suppose. ;-;

I was having a hard time accepting the lore explanation. As a mage quiz I am just as interested in the fade and the history of magic, which is itself so tied with the history of elves. So it does feel like my mage quiz wants to learn but is being excluded because she is human! Maybe the love story between two elves was the one bioware wanted to tell but... why so much choice if this is "the big one"? :/

I know exactly how you feel   After 6 attempts to play non-elf Inquisitors I just can't keep going once I reach Haven because I miss my Einian Lavellan, I miss Solas, I miss everything about my first playthrough.  The only thing that feels right is the elf mage I just made, and I would really like to try Cullen's sweet romance but having Solas within reach and not being with him sounds impossible.

I wondered the same thing. Also after the temple of mythal, when you talk to him one of the dialogue options is "you sound like you're going to die, stop it" or something to that effect. That made me wonder if he really did expect to die soon? He talks to flemeth about paying a price, so I guessed he expected to pay for his actions somehow, if he couldn't get orb back intact.

 

I assumed that was because, if he recovered the orb, he probably would be dying. Based on his dialog with Flemeth "I should be the one to pay the price" I get the feeling that to do [whatever he planned to do with the orb] probably required him to die, or at least fal into uthenera again.

 

I still don't think that would explain his "dying alone" fear, because if that's what he was referring to then I think he would have told Lavellan the truth, consequences be damned... but... maybe?

Same.  I kind of ship my Lavellan and Abelas if the Solas romance never resolves or ends badly, but that would be years down the line after she's had time to sort herself out.

Not yet but I have a human Inquisitor ready to play who is based on Weeke's Assquisitor.  I may or may not keep this thread updated on my journey of 'make Solas (and everyone else) hate me.'

Second play as human quiz who is always 100% best buds with Solas but no option to romance, so no romance for her ;-;. Yet I cannot bring myself to play an elf, I'm just not an elfy person. How come Solas prefers the company of spirits and yet be bound by the race of a physical body? I am so broken ;-;. 

 

The CC can make your elf gal look almost human and you can headcanon that the explosion who gave her the mark erased her memory so she is not elfy at all. I did that, not because I don't like elves but because the game makes you play like you are not elven i na lot of parts ("Who is Mithal Morrigan?" your dalish elf quizzie asks)

Also this is totally random and not related to Solas, but have you guys found the hut in Redcliffe where it's revealed that the Oculara are created by the Tevinter using Tranquil skulls? I just found it for the first time today and was like omg that is seriously f'ed up. Makes me not want to use them anymore but I gotta get the completes

Only way I am doing  stuff past getting to Haven is by playing a male Quizzy. Then I don't mind Solas being less warm with my Quizzy because we get a "bro" vibe going and I'm not expecting  flirt from him. Think my quizzy will romance Cassandra if I manage to get him going

I have a hard time imagining my inquisitor falling in love again easily with anyone...due to the whole magic hand/herald thing. I got the sense even Varric, who is normally so down to earth, started to look at the inquisitor differently as time went on. So yeah mine will end up forever alone probably...

Hi, haven't been in BSN for awhile, but I just skimmed through the topic and noticed this. 

I've been doing a series of disapproval scenes with companions, I have some videos of him totally hating your guts. It might be something of interest for ya' all to discuss

I find it interesting that he seems much less concerned about possible enslavement to Mythal when he does not like the Inquisitor. There's just sort of an ominous "at least until Mythal chooses otherwise." Even then, the structure of the sentence implies it's just Mythal's power she controls which doesn't seem to be the case in the other dialogue at all.

 

Oh I just got to the third one, "I look forward to seeing the price you pay." Scotch bonnet candy indeed.

My Lavellan changed me. My canon DA:O playthrough was a Cousland that dated Alistair and then dumped him early on for Zevran (there may have been a bit of meta-revenge there...originally played a City Elf who wasn't down with being someone's mistress). I never had a problem seeing Cousland or Zevran being involved with other people if it came to it (though I'm overjoyed that they are still together). Hawke stayed with Fenris but I always headcanon'd that she dated other people before he came back and would've been fine if he never returned

 

But [canon] Lavellan and Solas? I can't. I don't imagine her as a virginal never-been-kissed innocent little lamb when meeting him (or vice-versa) but....can't put my finger on it. If Solas has really dropped off the face of the earth and Lavellan never sees or hears from him again, I can make myself believe that she will move on. It won't ever be the same but she'll get a heart-to-heart with Varric and keep on keeping on. But if Solas shows up again, and it ends in tragedy? I don't imagine a recovery. Canon Lavellan and Varric can form the Sgt. Cullen's Lonely Hearts Club Band or something.

 

Re Staff:

Stealing the idea. Wonder what "What Pride had Wrought" would be in Elvish. Find it a little odd naming the staff just Solas for some reason.
