I think I"m going to work on her CC tonight and she's got to be perfect, but naming is the hardest. Do you guys just come up with names out of thin air or do you use a generator or website?
I looked up Welsh names, which was funny because I saw tons of DA NPC names. Some of my possibles were Glyn/Glynis (good), Bronwen (dark and pure), Eiran (bright, beautiful, silver), Aderyn (bird), and Eilwyn/Eilwen (fair browed), but I ended up going with Einian (anvil).
Here she is because I love her.

Honestly, one of my favorite little things about the DA series is that they give you a default name for your character. 
I am the WORST at coming up with names so I usually go with the default...
That said, one thing I like to do when I do want to come up with a new name is consult a list of existing NPCs in the game to get a feel for what kinds of names other characters with similar backgrounds have. Here's the DA Wiki list of elves.
Yes. RESOLUTION IS NECESSARY. And not just a few lines hand-waving the whole relationship. Considering we got gypped in terms of the amount of romantic content, it'd be nice to have something to make up for the heartbreak...
I'm comforted by the fact that romance/non-romance content is equally limited. They have a lot of room to develop his character. Right now I feel like we know less about him even than DLC characters like Shale.

I looked up Welsh baby name lists. Elven names are supposed to be "soft" and sort of vowel-y so Welsh works well with that. Then I have an A-name tradition so that narrowed it down considerably. This time I found Arlais ("From the Temple" - which was not intended to be relevant but it very well might be) and from my canon PT I'm changing it to Arlaise because I think that matches elven spelling a little more (i.e. as in Sylaise).

My other canon characters are Alanna Cousland ("beauty/serenity" though I named her more after Tamora Pierce's Alanna) and Avery Hawke ("Elf counsel" but chosen just 'cause I like it).
I'm trying to run with my human female for Cullen, but.... Meh. I just want to be an elf again. I almost never pick humans in RPGs (I like pointy ears...) and here I am doing a second human playthrough of DAI. Boo. I can't romance Cullen as an elf. Ha. As soon as Solas does that little 'is that a serious question?' chuckle at the start, I just... Nope. I want Lavellan to dive on him there and then.
I really want to play as a male elf though. Which should technically allow me to experience more romances but er, no, as soon as Dorian smiles I'm done. I'm hitting dat.
I'm rubbish.
So tempted to start up my Nightmare run with my Dorian romancing, Solas bromancing archery skilled Dalish elf. I want to make him the most giddy and silly but adorable thing to ever hit Thedas.
... But I should really keep on with my Cullenmancing mage first. I haven't even left bloomin Haven yet xD
Did side with the Templars for the first time though. I so loved Cole's introduction and welcome scenesbut overall I didn't enjoy that arc as much as I did the mage one. Also, I ain't fighting that envy demon on nightmare. I suck, and I really sucked against that guy.
Dorian!!! I made a male elf just for him. The first character I could get into following F!Lavellan and...nope. Got the no-Dorian-quest glitch. So there he sits waiting...

Sorry, I am so useless at NPC names.
This is the first time I've played an elf and it changed me, too. I'm not sure what that phrase would translate into but there are some elven words I thought looked good with Solas, like Bora'solas(lose), Solas'era (dream/tale/story), Solas'eth (safe), Halam'solas (the end), Sola'bellanar (eternal/many years), or maybe Mana'solas (distant past).
At least we'll have each other!
Until DLC proves otherwise I'll just stick to headcanoning that some Fade Solavellan connection continues after the end of DA:I.
I couldn't even do that. It seems so beyond cruel in some ways. My "canon" gal is so self-assured and I have that the break-up just rocked her to her core. So in my head she's initially devastated but starts to heal. I think if he's just popping in and out of her head...it's too mean. I couldn't do that to her and I can't view Solas as being that cruel. If he shows up again in a game it's either all or nothing.

Rather boringly, I use my names like categories, just becuase it helps me keep track of canon playthroughs and different saves.
For Dragon Age, mage characters are Rune (if I have more than one mage playthrough, I use variants like Runei). Rogues are Ashe (or Ash or Ashei for noncanon rogue playthroughs), warriors are Sidra.

This is strange, but I've been referring to Lavellan as 'Lavellan' so much that I almost want to just name her Lavellan Lavellan.
At least then all of the fanfic you wrote would be communally personalized

I see people talking about other romances and Inquisitors of different races I'm like "What? I don't even...how do you do that?!"
I couldn't not do an elf. Lusting over my male elf kinda helps. Even if he can't get with Solas, but doing side quests are just so hard

Probably on purpose though, since "condescending eternally miserable guy" is basically his entire character description.
I do think it'd be interesting to see him return later in the story, since we never really learn too much about the Sentinels and it'd be pretty interesting to see where they end up.
If they don't resolve Solavellan in a way that's remotely positive I don't know how I'm going to be able to play DA:4. "You want me to pick up a new protagonist after you did that to my heart?"
Right?! I can't even imagine just...moving on yet. Everyone's talking about the possibility of a new game in Tevinter and I just can't even wrap my head around caring about anything but my Inquisitor. Bioware did such a good job of getting me invested that I just can't let go. It doesn't feel like a resolution. I was able to let go of my Warden and Hawke fairly easily. Even my Shepard after the extended cut and Citadel came out. But I need more time with my Inquisitor and I'm worried I won't get it.
So, I remembered the conversation (with that stunning piece of artwork) from a few days ago and I wrote this up. I think I may have a problem...
