At this point I'm just hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Gheh... same here.  Granted, my disappointment won't last tooooo long, but, the only other potential LI I'm interested in is Cullen (since I can't romance Cass as a female, and although I've said I'll make a male character for Dorian, the fact is playing a guy just really doesn't appeal to me). But, he won't really suit most of my characters since I tend to play anti-Chantry types. 

 

Also, to give Solas a beautiful Welsh accent and not make him romanceable?  That would be too cruel, Bioware, too cruel.

It sucks because this'll be twice that it happened to me   Perhaps I won't pay so much attention to a game before it comes out after this. I only really did so with ME3 and now DAI but both times may just end up in terrible disappointment. Not that it'd ruin the whole game, not at all, but there'll always be a bitter little pill I'm swallowing every time I play, if my experience with ME3 is anything to go by!

I'd say Solas has about a 60% chance of being a LI. I think it's either him or Blackwall, and he's more likely.

Also, like I said before they probably want to add more variety in terms of race so I say for the two romance slots Solas (the only male elf), Varric, and Iron Bull will have the best chances. Otherwise it would just be humans, Sera, and the non companion/advisor.

Where did they state specifically, that one of the 8 romances would be a non-advisor/non-companion character??

If there are simply some "romance-ish" non-inq party characters, that doesn't mean they are being included in the 8 romances. They could be like Sha'ira in ME1, Kelly in ME2 (not ME3 though, since she does grant the Paramour cheevo), or having a fling/flirt with Zev and Tallis in DA2. IF that is the case, and those type of "romances" are not being included in the 8, then Solas has a very good chance of being an LI.

Let's use subtraction....sorta.

12 = Number of confirmed companions and advisors
2 = Number of confirmed companions/advisors that are NOT romancable (Leliana and Cole)
5 = Number of confirmed companions/advisors that WILL be romancable (Cass, Cullen, Dorian, Sera, Josephine)
5 = Number of unconfirmed companions/advisors that might be romancable (Solas, Varric, IB, Vivienne, Blackwall)

Of those last 5, who would be most likely to not be a romance. My guess is Varric and Blackwall. I wish I had a link for this little bit of info I remember reading, so a disclaimer on the following that I do NOT currently have a link to the following tidbits.

Varric = I recall Mary Kirby bringing up the idea, that Varric and Bianca's story was not over yet. Does that guarantee anything? No. But, it makes it more plausible that they will have reason to keep him unattached for this very reason.

Blackwall = I know that BW does like a couple of "angsty" romances, but Blackwall is a warden most likely not far from his calling. This being established by some notes written by him(??) that somewhat dates his time with the Wardens. Again, sorry for lack of links. This puts him more likely in the no romance list, than not. Of course, it is NO guarantee.

That would mean that out of the 12 companion/advisors, Leliana, Cole, Varric, and Blackwall would not make the list. We would have our 8: Cass, Cullen, Dorian, Sera, Josephine, IB, Vivienne, ANNNNND Solas!!

Sound good?? Make it so, BW.

Trying to stay positive about the Solas romance, but this has put me weirdly on the fence about whether or not it'll happen.  I will say that it seems pretty certain IB is a romance (race-gated), and I really, seriously doubt that Blackwall is just because of the whole "dad" vibe, plus the fact that his situation isn't really conducive to being a LI. I think we'll get either Varric or Solas. I still feel like the Varric/Bianca issue makes him less likely, but...ugh, I don't know.  I wish they'd just TELL us so the forums can all finish going through whatever mourning needs to happen well before release.  I'd be a lot more comfortable if I knew whether they were counting the non-companion/non-adviser romance in that number, or if it's not really considered a full romance. Hard to see how it could be, but I don't know (I want your post to come true, coldwetn0se!).

 

All that said...EIGHT ROMANCES. Pretty freaking awesome.   Think of the playthroughs...and of course, the mayhem.

I know that all of this info is coming from the Raptr interview, but I didn't see a specific post that said, there were 8 romances and one of those 8 was a non-companion/non-advisor romance. The quote I saw from Cameron Lee (bah...I think it was Cameron) that stated there were 8 and of those 8, 2 would be race-gated. But I didn't see anything that a non-companion/non-advisor (really need to abbreviate that....yeesh! - NC/NA), would be one of those 8. If someone has a link to that being confirmed, it would be much appreciated. Cuz then, Ima gonna have to toss Vivienne under the bus.

Some think the non-companion/advisor romance will be Dagna, the female dwarf, since she is confirmed to be in Inquisition.

 

It could be, but there are also Briala and Celene and Gaspard...  Those three might be much more minor "romances," if they are available.  More like flings or political arrangements.

 

Also, with Mark Darrah's comment about "well oiled leather jacket draped over a chair in a bar," I am thinking Varric will be the last option.  And, I guess I'm okay with that, but I'd prefer Solas.  I'm severely disappointed that straight men get a companion while straight women get an advisor, with whom they cannot go adventuring.  Even if there is the same amount of dialogue, it is not the same.

 

I'm holding out some hope that the eight do not include the non-companion/advisor, as that ups the chance of it being Solas.  But I do feel like they were strongly hinting at Varric... and the Varric fans definitely were responding to it in the Twitter thread.

With the reveal of Josaphene as the Inquisition's diplomatic envoy I'm wondering if she'll have any banter with the regular party:

It would be nice for the non-companion/adviser to be Dagna so that way dwarf PCs can have a dwarf option. I know there's the line of how it's not meant to be fair, but enough people have commented on the lack of dwarf anything. I guess more people like them than we think.

 

I do wonder if the eight includes that particular romance, or if it's separate from the companion/adviser number. Think they'd tell us?

n2 hours agoFirstly, thank everyone on the team for me. My MSc cannot finish soon enough for this game to be played..If it came out during I might just fail as DA:I would be too awesome!
