:crying:

I think because I kept expecting a scene I hadn't interpreted the sort of ambiguous lines (side benefits and such) as them getting physical before.  Poor Einian Lavellan, put on ice like that.

Spoiler

At the beginning of the last romance scene Solas starts with "The Veil is thin here, can you feel it tingle on your skin?" and after hearing about some of the other romances from my friend and husband my mind leaps to "Yesssss, she's finally going to get her 'in the grass by the ancient elven ruins' moment."  Nooope.

Stray thought: Solas talks about spirits being attracted to Court at Halamshiral because of all the feelings and intrigue and such. They're also attracted to areas where the Veil is thin. As someone who knows so much about spirits and where they go, wouldn't he feel weird gettin' it on in a place where spirits are probably drawn to/watching? I would feel kind of weird about that! What if he's been there before and talked to them?

So I was reading in this thread a little while back about the awkward flirting of Bioware and wondered where you rate initiating the Solas romance on the awkard flirting of Bioware scale?
For me, it wasn't awkward but my Lavellan did so come on a bit strongly. That first flirt where they've known each other for five minutes and she's saying she would have done everything she could have to protect him..
...ease it up a bit there Lavellan, I know he's hot but let's not scare the poor man with your lust this soon.
And of course that fade scene, after having played with a non Solasmancer seems a bit odd now.
"I felt the whole word change"
All other inquisitors: "cool story, bro"
Female Lavellan: "Felt, aaaaayyee?"
It makes it seem like he's hitting on everyone and only a female Lavellan realises xD I am so running that as my headcannon because I think it's hilarious.
How awkward are some of the other character flirts? I've only done Dorian, which honestly is the only appropriate way to talk to the man.
Aaaaand Cullen which rates highly imo as my inquisitor walks up to him (having known him for hardly any time) amongst his recruits at haven and goes:
"You chaste, bro?"
Definitely up there on my hilarious cringe list with walking up to poor Alistair out of the blue and going, "Dude, you a virgin?"
Is there anyone who rates as highly as my most awkward DA flirt, oh man, cringing at the thought, which is Anders? That moment where he's pouring his heart out about Justice and Hawke just goes: "at least he got a nice body"
*endless face/palm*
Anyone that bad?

The Iron Bull is pretty hilariously bad flirting all the way. It's great, it's awesome and it's definitely cringeworthy - but in a good way! (I plan to romance him with a female dwarf for the hilarity.)

Quizzy: "Take me!"
Bull: "Can do."

...this is a real line from his romance.

I'm a bit surprised that the bedroom balcony kiss scene didn't lead to more. Solas kisses her, insinuates a relationship, and wanders off (toward the bed area), yet Lavellan just stands in the doorway like "you rascal." I hate that the scene ends there like anyone in their right mind would let a man just meander out the door like that.

I thought it was kind of sweet in a way how he stops at the kiss, though Solas does have this defeated look on his face as he walks away which just adds to the angst.

The one about the Inquistor being a reincarnation of (I'm going to bjork up this spelling) Ghilnan'nain. Then we talked about lore, but the picture of the Halla and the Wolf really got me thinking. :D Also, thanks!

I'm with others on the whole "I don't know if they'll finish out this story". I hope they will, because it feels incomplete. My boyfriend described the main story as "storywise, it feels like launch content for an MMO".

Oh god the Cullen scene had me blushing so hard. I love it when a man just takes charge. In his office too, where anyone can walk in! Ha!

Just before it happened in my playthrough a soldier had walked in just after me! Like I really hope Cullen threw them out.

My biggest concern was how Solas basically leaves Lavellan alone unarmed and unarmored in a place where the veil is thin in the middle of the night far away from Skyhold.  Not cool, dude.

I'm willing to give BioWare quite a bit of leeway on the awkward flirting; the flirts have to be obvious enough to clue in even the most meatheaded players, flow well with the characters' dialogue, and potentially set up a long chain of romance conversations.  They have to be PC initiated since some players get uncomfortable when NPCs initiate flirting (see also: DA2 Anders).  And on top of all that, the flirts need to appeal to the player.

IMO Solas is pretty good, all things considered.  Lavellan never struck me as terribly aggressive or forward, and Solas responds to the flirts without making it over-the-top.

His character/way of living and the problems that he has to face remind me of Faust, in a way. It's as if there are two souls inside of him, but instead of having an inner conflict about wanting to become a god he has an inner conflict of being one. Then there's the desire to be with Lavellan, but that only reminds him more of who he is and what he shouldn't do. Let's just hope he gets his inner peace without dying first...

Maybe it was mostly due to the voice acting/my personal characterization of her, but that line actually read to me as less intentionally flirtatious on the Inquisitor's part than "you saved my life and are the only other elf around here who isn't terrified of me, let's be friends yay" :P

Always puts me in mind of that infamous post from a guy who took Zevran's offer of a massage, thinking it was just a massage. And was then horrified.
No idea if he was trolling or not but the idea that that may have actually happened makes me cry with laughter.

They all tend towards the awkward/cringe-worthy.  One of the flirt lines with Cullen is literally "Thank you."  Oh and an exchange of very awkward-looking suggestive-eyeing at each other.  ("Thank you"?? Seriously?)

IMHO the smoothest flirt lines are with Scout Harding.

I know! And she's upset! Upset people attract demons! I thought for a while that maybe it was a Fade-dream again but then why would he say "the Veil is thin here"?

That's how I took it. She just got freed from being prisoner to a bunch of humans - she knows that they have no problem arresting one of her kind. It would not have made sense with a non-elf though, unless maybe that person was a mage?

What really creeped me out - and I am saying this as someone who has professional interest in dead things and skulls and bones - was how you hear the grinding scrape of bone on stone while turning the skulls to look for shards. I do not get heebie jeebies easily, but that did it to me. Eugh.

It bothers me too, especially when I have headphones on. Grind, grind, grind...

I haven't tried many of the flirt options with other characters, but I did get far enough with my male qunari to see Cassandra's first flirt option. Actually I thought it was funny and kind of appropriate since Cassandra herself comes off as kind of blunt most of the time:

*overly flirtatious voice* "It's impressive."

"You flatter me."

"I'm trying."

Totally going to romance Cass with that guy.

I wish there had been more opportunity to show the PC trying to adjust to being the Herald of Andraste.  I'm all for a quick pace at the beginning of the game (DA:O was painfully slow at times), but it just sort of tossed Lavellan into this human town as their heroine and said go.  Especially for Lavellan, who probably has the least amount of contact with the outside world, it would have been nice to get some "how are you adjusting" conversations.

There is the first conversation with Varric where he asks you how you're holding up and you can say that you have no idea wtf is going on.

Aside from that it would have been nice to have a little more stuff about how the Inquisitor is dealing with suddenly being in charge of a whole bunch of humans, but I guess it's kind of necessary for the story that they be a fairly take-charge kind of person anyway.

There were a few- Varric comes to mind when you can tell him how overwhelmed/angry/accepting you are at being the Herald of Andraste (edit: ninja'd on that  ).  Though, I agree, I think that the pace could have slowed down a bit in the prologue.  I would have liked to see her spy on the Conclave and get some context to what's happening, honestly.

So, Solas poetry from my Lavellan who made some very educated guesses.  Dropping it here for your enjoyment/criticism.  Rough draft right now.

What you didn’t say

Apostate, dreamer from another shore,
Seer and sage, riven veil you’ve seen before.

With Dreamer’s eye your see
Paths of ancient mystery
Tales of battles lost and won
‘Neath the rays of younger sun.

No simple wanderer, you
Prince and potentate also true.
Timeworn steps from another day
In capricious court of subtle play.

Broken Dread Wolf sorrow bound
In ancient dreams spirits abound.
Simplicity in spirit friends,
No mortal soul where truth depends.

Dread Wolf, ancient trickster foe,
Sealed warring Gods, a savior so.
The truth doth lie in cunning word,
What you didn’t say, heart should’ve heard.

Only way I am doing  stuff past getting to Haven is by playing a male Quizzy. Then I don't mind Solas being less warm with my Quizzy because we get a "bro" vibe going and I'm not expecting  flirt from him. Think my quizzy will romance Cassandra if I manage to get him going

I'm this way too, but I can only ever play elves, so I'm back to waiting for you and your lovely modder friends, Ren, because I also cannot play a male character that I myself am not attracted to.  :P

With Cullen (I believe) when he calls you Inquisitor you can choose the option "I'm still getting used to the title".

I just wish that it was possible to be kissed rather than to kiss first in that Fade scene. I really miss these moments in Bioware games when LIs initiate romance or kiss first or flirt first. It's hard to play as a shy character nowadays... and sometimes getting a couple of LIs mixed signal is just plain fun: what, Lelianna, Zevran, Alistair, you all want a piece of me? Lol. Hilarious as geez

You know, come to think of it, that would be a fun little fanfic premise: Varric plays Hawke to Lavellan's Merrill and explains to him/her all these confusing human customs and history things.
