Nicholas Cage?

...I'm sorry I'll go now.

Lol, I don't know this actor well, but he's kind of unobtainable for most people.

Lol, I hope that's just a joke because if it's true, that would really suck. What real life man can match up to Solas?

I like to think if Solas was an actual person he would be THE WORST.  Condescending. Arrogant.  Screeching "EXCUSE ME! IF I MAY INTERJECT...." Blech. Blech.  At least thinking that makes the sadness over this ridiculous videogame romance better.

So, if you drink from the Well of Sorrows and tell Solas that you intend to use its power to make he world a better place, he asks what that would entail. If you respond that you'll figure it out as you go he comments that knowing that someone else is willing to keep trying to make the world despite any failues than maybe there is still hope.

I get the impression that Solas still wants to help his people, but his past failures have painted him as a villain among those he wants to help. Also I get the impression that he was Shartan:

I'm still not convinved about Shartan, but yes: Solas was completely seeing himself in Lavellan on that scene. And her comment about keep trying does set the spark he needed to move with his own plans and keep trying as well.

It's past midnight and I should be asleep, but instead I'm playing around in the CC making a male Lavellan. I've slipped back into the ginger heroes of Thedas mode...

Whenever I think I have made a good looking inquisitor I go wandering into the CC thread and realise that all my creations are hideous xD curse that thread and high spec PC users with their pretty Inquisitors

I see it sort of differently. Getting into bed is exactly as he says it - an enjoyable side benefit. Something two willing adults can engage in, but it doesn't define them or their relationship because the relationship itself is separate from that. He's already given himself up to it as much as he can at that point in time. Compared to the emotional intensity, the sexual aspect is minor, almost meaningless and hardly something that would make a difference when it comes to staying or leaving. I can't believe it's the being naked part that would make it impossible for him to leave. It just doesn't seem to fit right in my head.

It's great you can separate the two, really. And I do see where you're coming from--what importance would the physical have versus the deep emotional and mental (dare I say, spiritual) connection they would have?

But ehh I just can't. Sex to me is the ultimate consummation of a relationship, I can't ever put it into the category of "it's just sex", especially not if it's someone you deeply cared about.

Besides I like to picture the breakup scene as someone above said: That it's his tipping point, where he realized he would really like the relationship to go physical but knows if he did, that 1) he couldn't back out then because 2) it wouldn't be fair to her. I just.. like it better that way. Feels way more romantic if there's still something he's "giving up" by leaving Lavellan, rather than having his cake and eating it too.

Repetitive disclaimer: This is just my headcanon, not trying to naysay anyone else's! :)

Edit: I hate how typing my lists a, b, etc, b ) is turned into B). Silly emoticons.

I really like this interpretation. I was trying to think why I thought it might be "worse" if he'd slept with her before breaking it off. Because sex makes things more serious? He told her he loved her. He does love her. He knows she loves him back. They've spent around 6-8 months together as a couple. Not saying that sex needs to happen under those circumstances, just that their relationship is already very deep and intimate. You can be in a sexual relationship without being emotionally close, and vice versa. What he values about her is her spirit, her self. I don't think that would change in the slightest if they had slept together or hadn't. Really, I think that's why they didn't include a sex scene. Because at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

This has been my exact feeling on the matter since I finished the romance. Teasing, flirting, even shared dreams up to that point... and then the unbridled release of being drunk in the moment making it one heck of a night for them after they dance. It just seems like the right time and place for that intimacy to come up, for all the reasons that you stated.

I've seen some people say they hated the ball. I loved it. :P

Exactly! That's what I loved about the idea of them sleeping together after the ball. Solas responds to intellectual stimulation. Well Lavellan just checkmated the entire Orlesian court.

Plus, he'd had quite a lot to drink that evening. Judging from the first kiss, all he needs is to be a bit less inhibited.

I don't know, I agree with you. Originally I didn't lean towards them being intimate but then as the game progressed (especially their physical familiarity in the final scene), I thought that maybe they did. I suppose it really depends on how the player views sexual intimacy and emotional intimacy. The strength of the Solas and Lavellan relationship is in the intensity between them, the emotional charge. It's the meeting of two souls who are grasping each other tightly from across the ages, everything they do is incredibly intimate. And I'm not sure anything they do in dreams would be any less real for both of them than it would be when it happens in the flesh. He just looks at her so reverently. Of all the relationships in Inquisition, I'd define their relationship as the most spiritual, even godly. It's... loving the person, yes, but also so much more. It's practically religious, which is probably why I put down so many with either blatant or religious undertones in their playlists. In her way, she really is his savior.

Teasing, flirtation, sensual touching, yes, the human elements are all there even if they never go beyond that. All flirting with temptation that ends before it hits the final climax.

For me, Solas is going to leave whether or not they have sex. He knows it.

The only comparison I make between Anders and Solas is the trajectory of their personal story arcs.

Well, if he were a real person, he would have his sweet sides too so it's gonna be hard to decide whether to go for him or not haha.

I tried to capture a screenshot of Solas with those green angel wings after he resurrects someone (my Lavellan, heh).  It isn't very good, but I'll keep trying to get a good one...:

Spoiler

I'm also capturing video clips with this new Lavellan for a potential fan video for Sollavellan.  From the clips I've gathered so far (and I'm not even halfway done with the game on this new playthrough, so it may be awhile before this video reaches fruition), I'm thinking a heavier song would be appropriate instead of my original plan for "If I Never Knew You" from Pocahontas.  Of course, this will be my first ever fan video if I ever get around to making it XD.  I'm leaning more towards "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence now...  This is the first time I've felt compelled to make a fan video for a video game.  Solas just has that effect!

Another helpful tip for those trying to kick this addiction: Imagine Solas saying those exact same lines... making those exact same faces.... kissing just like that... with EVERY LAVELLAN OUT THERE, one after the other.

Works wonders

Ok. I was playing earlier and got a nice conversation between Cassandra and Solas. Can I just say that I love these two?! I never would have expected them to get along so well. Cass is genuinely curious about how Solas views things without being Judgey McJudgerson about it and you can tell Solas respects Cass deeply for what she represents and what she fights for. It's like every time she is shaken by her faith or her duties he just swoops in all majestic and **** and just gives her a little pep talk. It just makes me go awww  .

Also, I feel kinda bad for Dorian. He apologized to Solas for how Tevinter treats elves and Solas is all, "If you really cared, you'd put words into action." I'm like, "Leave my bestie alone, Solas! *Holds bff to bosom* Now, tell me I'm pretty, Dorian. "

There's a word for that. In fact, it's the word that I think really describes Solas as a character. "Saudade". It's Portuguese and means, roughly, "a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves." That's basically the romance. Beautiful, full of longing, but tinged with melancholy at the knowledge that it can't work. It's also (imo) the emotion that Hallelujah evokes.

Maybe there's a god above, but all I've ever learned from love is how to shoot at somebody who outdrew you.
