Josie and Solas don't have one, while Dorian and Blackwall have one but it isn't mandatory.

Such a lovely Lavellan
Heh, I get rid of the vallaslin for bad reasons- I just like the scene a lot and the intimacy of it all.
Haha, high-five, because these were my reasons too. I ended up digging my vallaslin over the course of the game.
EDIT - @Chrys - good to know about Blackwall!

Sorry to be late to the party, but I was busy yesterday
About 20 pages ago there was a discussion concerning immortal/mortal relationship and how it might play out for Lavellan and Solas. Most people assume Solas is immortal, which honestly I think makes perfect sense seeing as he's, ya know, Fen'harel and all, but what I've not seen anyone bring up is: If he's immortal, why would his greatest fear be dying alone?
If he's immortal... he can't die (naturally), so wouldn't his fear then be "living alone" or perhaps something more like "never being understood"? Maybe this is a clue that he's not really immortal.
Of course there is the possibility "dying alone" is meant figuratively, like maybe the day he chooses to enter uthenera for the last time, or he could just mean "if I get killed somehow", but I just don't see it that way. When someone's fear is dying alone, it means dying is a real possibility, and that you are afraid you won't have time to make lasting connections or find love. So, yeah, it just seems weird to me that an immortal's fear would be about dying alone (and not just "death").
I hate to mention this, but I suspect this essentially a setup for a potential DLC path. The closest I believe we'll get to a happy ending is Solas making a final sacrifice and dying in Lavellan's arms. That would technically tick all the 'happy' boxes: atonement, redemption, new hope for his People, not dying alone, while still being the Worst Happy Ending Ever. TwT

I agree the Dorian one left a sour taste in my mouth. Mostly because it's like... he is helping. He left his home and is fighting for the Inquisition trying to make things right. Solas's dismissal of him always rubbed me the wrong way. But, I guess it just shows Solas's has his sore points., and can be rather bigoted
The best banter though is the one where they just talk shop, going back and forth about magic. Hehe, some of the best. But overall I always feel like Dorian comes out worse in their banters when he's really trying to be nice, like the one where he asks about the technique saying it's a Tevinter technique and Solas is like hmmm nope. I always imagine my Lavellan being like Stop picking on him, Solas!
To be fair, Dorian kept slaves and when you confront him about it his defense is basically "I was ignorant and anyway their lives aren't that bad." Never mind that someone in his position should understand very well that oppression is bad in and of itself, regardless of the benefits that an oppressed lifestyle might offer. Then his first banter with Solas includes the line "you should see the things they [the Spirits] can be made to do," ouch.
As much as I like Dorian, I can't really fault Solas for disliking him and spurning his attempts at friendship. Dorian might be trying to help reform his homeland, but a lot of that comes from the fact that he would personally benefit from those reforms. I don't remember him doing a lot that required personal sacrifice for something that wouldn't benefit him.
Though I'm missing a huge chunk of his development not being able to do his companion quest xD

Who are these people and how are they moving on???
I feel the same way. I'm "done" with all my other protagonists and was one the games finished. But there's no way I'm giving up my Inquisitor. If there's a new game before I get resolution I will just re-create her as the protagonist.
I keep waffling on what the likelihood is of the arc continuing with the Inquisitor (as opposed to DLC that can be completed at any time during the game a la DA:2). It's stressing me out.
I'm totally with you on this. But if it helps, I really feel that they set up the ending for a continuation of the Inquisition. I also read in an article today that they are planning for two games ahead...maybe this story will be it, especially if they take down the veil or unleash ancient elven gods.

Nooooooooooooooo.
That would be the Worst Happy Ending Ever. Actually, that's not a happy ending at all. It'd be better than Solas going full villain, but no. I mean, I can handle dying lovers in a book or movie. Like The Fault in Our Stars, I totally kept it together when I watched that for the first time yesterday evening. Yep. Not a single tear escaped from my eyes.
But I don't know if I could handle it in an interactive game. It would be too cruel, especially when the likes of Loghain and Anders are allowed to live. A romanced Alistair could be saved if you did the Dark Ritual. I know there are some things that can't be controlled in these games, but forcing us to kill a party member with no choice in the matter is just ick.

Yea, but there is an option to not have sex with him though? If you say he's moving too fast he'll slow it down and as far as I know there isn't a follow up sex scene.
Oh, I knew there was a reason to go for Dorian my second playthrough.
And just to stay on topic.

Maybe it says something about me, but if given the choice, I would much rather see my Lavellan die/sacrifice herself than Solas. It would absolutely kill Solas if she died (especially if it was from something that was his fault), but I'm just selfish. I'd rather her die than him.
I did the same thing with the Alistair romance when I decided to do the Ultimate Sacrifice- I downloaded a mod that allowed her to knock him out and take the kill so she'd die instead.

I just wanted to say hi to all the wonderful people in this thread. I have been reading it for a while and it convinced me to try Solas romance. My first Lavellan happily romanced Cullen, and my second one went for Solas and oh dear Maker, all the intensity and emotion and heartbreak. *sniff* You guys have hot chocolate here by any chance? Or a comfort blanky? In the words of Dorian "I think I am going to go get drunk. It's been one of those days".
Of course there is!! *hands hot coco and blanket*

I'd say it's worse than a full villain, IMO. Full villain I would still have some hope for redemption and a happy ending.
If they have Solas die there better be an option for my Inquisitor to just become a crazy hermit or something - I would be pretty pissed if she showed up in DA4 being like, "What up, y'all?" No - she would be a wreck of a person and I would be pissed if Bioware gave her any other outcome.

Well, by full villain I meant undoubtedly irredeemable Cory type villain than a Loghain type villain (more appropriately termed antagonist). No matter the outcome I hope with every single fiber of my being that Solas's morals remain intact.

Yeah. I haven't seen a ton of NPCs with my Inquisitor's hairstyle, but the one that Dagna has is available in the CC.
And I'm hoping for a black emporium mirror-style DLC as well. And face codes. I'm really happy with my Inquisitor, but I want to be able to tweak her if I get rid of the vallaslin for my canon run. I'm leaning towards keeping them, though. Both because they look gorgeous and because it fits her character (symbols can change, we can make new meanings).
Spoiler
Ooh, pretty. For some reason she reminds me a bit of Velanna from Awakening. Except, you know, not all scary-looking.
IMO choosing to remove the vallaslin makes the whole thing even more sad, since the Inquisitor's own people would probably be pretty shocked/angry if she ever came back without them. ![]()

Well, in that case, just by his character I don't think its possible for him to go completely irredeemable. Unless Mythal's in charge now, just wandering about in his body.

It actually makes me kind of nervous about any future DLC that might involve interaction with the Dalish at all. :x I mean, obviously there won't be a ton of reactivity to a choice that only female elves romancing Solas get the chance to make, but the game clearly keeps track of whether it's there or not...
It also makes me curious about any "Mirror of Transformation" DLC things, because I don't know how the vallaslin would change things for the CC. Maybe it would just lock the option to change it at all post-removal...? I feel like it could cause a lot of problems. Hmm.

If Mythal is wandering about his body (haha that sounds dirty) then it could very well change him, but I kind of trust Flemythal to not be a totally evil whatever she/they/? are. Though hopefully that's not what happened at all or if it did happen it could be reversed, because I don't really want Solas to change except to naturally grow as a person like people do (no matter what some people say).

I think it'd make the most sense to just remove that particular slider; of course we don't know how easy/hard that would be to implement so who knows?
Or just not have any NPC reactions at all in future DLC and let you change it however you want, although that would be a little disappointing.

If Bioware gave us a Solas romance ending like this, I think I would spend a month flailing between "Oh creators this is the best romance I have ever experienced in a game" and "Oh creators I am dying of dehydration because of all the tears"
I suspect it would be a very conflicting time for me because I would be torn between bawling my eyes out and loving it to bits at the same time... Actually this is exactly how Solas' romance made me feel in general bleh ![]()
