LOL, yes!

Solas: The Veil is thin here, can you feel it tingle on your skin?

FriendQuisitor:  Uh...

Solas: I wanted to show you how much I respect you, Inquisitor.

FQ: This has been fun, but... *runs away*

Haha more like, I think it would be more like Morrigan's friendship talk with a female Warden in DAO :)

So, um, this is awkward.

But I did this thing and wrote something.  I don't normally ... share and I've never self-promoted, but I love this thread.  And you guys have shown me some truly fantastic fanfiction.  So I thought I'd drop this here.

It's not smut.  It's just an ending.  I needed something sweet after Solas.

Next he'd be offering a massage.   ;)

No no, Fen'Harel doesn't offer massages to other people... He'd be going 'Yes, now that we have established that I respect you, Lavellan, I expect you to massage my bald head for me every morning." :P

So curious, I haven't seen it asked before so here we go: What class do you see as your canon, and (probably the same thing) what do you think best suits a Solas romance?

At first I would have answered mage, duh, but after playing my rogue I really loved the class and honestly... I'm kind of digging it. A trickster smart ass rogue, quick with her blades and quicker with her tongue, being in awe of this elf who, while a really elfy mage (as Sera would say) also shares a lot of her humor. And as a rogue, she hasn't had much first hand experience of the Fade, so finds the whole thing fascinating.

I know there are a lot who like the mentor/mentee teacher/student paradigm you get with a mage, but I'm kinda getting bored of mages XD

I don't know, so hard to choose.

Don't know that I'd say one class seems to suit the romance arc more than the others, but as far as the entire story goes I think if you're going to play an elf, mage makes the most sense. Because, presumably in that case the Inquisitor would have expected/trained to be the leader of their clan someday, which would explain why they seem to have mad leadership skillz even when stuck in a town full of humans with a weird magical curse and the Chantry constantly on their tail. :P

I'm stuck between a mage and a rogue.

On the one hand, with the mage there's the whole irony of the Keeper's apprentice falling for Fen'Harel.  They share some more common ground this way, and I can picture them discussing magic.

On the other, with the rogue, it's interesting because she's someone entirely normal falling for a "god".  There's nothing particularly special about her besides her own personal qualities that he's fallen in love with.  I can also see Solas guiding her through the Fade and sharing his knowledge on magic with her, showing her wonders that she's never before experienced through the Fade.

I'm leaning more towards rogue right now, I think.  I suppose these reasons could apply to a warrior, too, but I like playing a Dalish archer so I choose rogue.

I think the right one is whichever is right for you. :)

Personally, I love mages and magic in the Dragon Age universe. My canon is always a mage. And because I love the magic part of the lore, Solas completely blew my mind. Even before I learned he was Fen'harel, I was on cloud nine thinking of all of the implications for what he was saying about magic. My favourite probably being the very real possibility that being a Combat Historian could be A Thing in the DA-verse. Being a history student myself, that practically made me giddy. Heck, I even wrote a drabble about it.

Spoiler

The link between the Fade and magic and spirits and memory is just so cool.

My canon is archer rogue, since that's pretty much the only Lavellan I have right now, and my reasons are very similar to yours. Unlike a mage, the Fade is not really something that Tala (my Lavellan) is very familiar with. So she's curious about it and is one of the main reasons she keeps asking Solas about the Fade, spirits, etc.

Also, as a hunter of her clan, Tala was not groomed to be a leader and I like seeing someone who is just a normal person rise up to become the leader of something as powerful as the Inquisition. And in my head, I think it adds to the qualities that makes Solas fall in love with her. ;)

I can see why many would choose a mage as suitable for a Solas romance, but I think being a rogue (and to an extent, being a warrior) could also work as well. :)

They're both pretty great in their own way.

The mage has the whole "Merlin and Nimue" thing going on and the irony of a would-be Keeper falling for the Dread Wolf. Solas says that magic is more graceful than a sword or a bow, and the way he talks about how the elves used to ALL have magic, it's clearly something he.. appreciates?, I guess is the word I'm looking for. He likes to talk shop with Dorian and Viv (okay, a little passive-aggressively ) and that's something I could see him and mage Lavellan doing.

A rogue or warrior Lavellan is more of an "ordinary everygirl", and I like the idea that a ~god~ would fall for someone so utterly normal. I think a non-mage is probably less indoctrinated with Dalish views of magic -- spirits are dangerous, blood magic is bad, etc. which means that she might defer to Solas's views on that sort of thing, 'cause it's not like she'd know. Plus, it's a little more believable when he drags you into the Fade and you don't even realize it. That's a pretty big *facepalm* moment for a mage character, right there.

And I like the idea of a tomboyish girl wading right into the melee, elbowing people in the face when they try to injure her squishy mage boyfriend.

Either way, he is her teacher, her hahren. Whether it's magic, the mark on her hand, or the history of their people...

I really like my tough warrior girl right now. Warriors radiate a sense of strenght that the other classes don't necessarily represent. I really like that tension between Solas and a warrior Lavellan: She's normal, but fights on the front lines, getting head-first into battle. There is nothing special about her (similar to rogue), yet a warrior usually has the ability to strike down powerful foes on her own. But then there is that wonderful "I fight for you/I protect you" thing going on between Solas and his warrior lady. A dalish girl trying to protect a god? Now that's just cute! :D

It did in a way yes... but still just made me sad thinking about everything again lol :D

Does a mage have extra dialogue in the romance?

Not specificly, I don't think so. The only difference between the classes is in that early dialogue where Solas remarks on what he finds fascinating/admirable about you. For mage it's the indomitable focus, for rogues it's their grace, and for warriors... I totally forgot. Their muscles, I think.

They're both pretty great in their own way.

The mage has the whole "Merlin and Nimue" thing going on and the irony of a would-be Keeper falling for the Dread Wolf. My rogue is certianly not utterly normal! But I know what you mean :)

AND OMG YES protect the squishy mage BF who also happens to be a god :D I love it.

Mage has a bit of extra dialogue at the beginning, I believe (unless he talks about blood magic to everybody). They also have a different flirt line, but every class gets a variation of that line. Other than that, I'm not sure.

It is not misgendered, males don't get this dialog

You missed what I said in an earlier post.  The dialogue was misgendered in my game.  It fires for a female Lavellan but they refer to her as a male.

Rogues (and presumably) warriors get to ask about blood magic, too IIRC. They just don't get the option to ask him to teach it to them.

Everyone's choices are valid, yes.

I gotta say, though, I feel like the default Inquisitor (for setting up the next game, anyway) is very likely Dalish Inquisitor.  No idea on default romance, since, after all, Solas and Cullen were last-minute additions.  But a Dalish simply has more ties with all of the elven things going on in-game.

I wonder if they'd have two default Dalish in their set up though, since the Warden is by default Dalish too. It would probably default to no romance, like the Warden and Hawke do.

I actually think I did get the option to ask him to teach me blood magic on my rogue Lavellan? Or at the very least he gave me the same 'I would teach it to you but I don't know it because it makes travelling the Fade harder.' dialogue. But I might be remembering wrong :o

You can definitely ask him about blood magic, though, just like mage Lavellan can

I personally can't decide between rogue or mage, which is why I have one of each so I can have twice as much heartbreak lol :P
