Amen, sister!  I'm holding out for BRAIDS!   :)

I've been keeping up with the thread too (though in a lurkery way) and I CANNOT wait. Loved meshing/skinning/retexturing for Sims 3/Dragon Age/Skyrim and was seriously distraught at the thought that this would be unmoddable. But you beautiful people and you're brilliant persistence. You give me extreme hope that I may be able to fire up the 3D Studio Max and Photoshop and get to making this game look like it SHOULD look do soon. (Starting with Skyhold PJ's, make-up and hair.

True. One of the banter conversations he has with Sera shows that as well, in case Sera and elf female inquisitor are in a relationship

(at 2:40)

Plus if you're in a romance with Solas, Sera can make a comment about the elf always choosing an elf to "bump bits" with.

This is pretty much what I do too...it just feels incredibly badass. RM is my favoured spec , Necromancer is fun but it just doesn't sit right with me, I don't know why..

As Your Trainer says, Rift Mage gives you the awesome power of a creative force. ;) Plus, it's the same spec as your local, friendly, elven trickster god. I picked it largely for story reasons (like I'm not gonna try finding out what this thing on my hand is useful for), but I fell in love with the gameplay.

I also headcanon telling Solas when he asks about why you picked the spec that I picked it because of him. I imagine him being both pleased and flustered.

I think he's just being a... dick about race there, honestly. If it was really about keeping the race alive, he'd have a problem with two women being together. He's kind of going ELVEN MASTER RACE in that banter.

Ah, Solas.  Made a Lavellan mage for my second run, she is supposed to romance Cullen, but I'm not sure I can do that with Solas being so adorable and kind.  The looks and kindness he extends to your Inquisitor at the beginning are just amazing.   I may have to go for my second heartbreak run.  Solas, what you do to me!

And, on theories: As much as I hate to say it Solas has been set up to be the most sympathetic antagonist ever for a future game.  Talk about a redeemable semi-villain.  The trouble with good intentions and so forth.  If they do this we could have the best antagonist ever (but oh our poor Lavellan's heart).  I kind of want them to do this because it would be amazing, and I would kind of hate it because SOLAS:(

I filled out the Rift Mage completely and I took most of the Storm tree.  There are a lot of passives that help with cooldowns and mana in that tree which is really important, because you want to be able to throw PoA around all the time.  I also filled out the Fire tree to get the rune, but I could have gone with the Frost instead and it might have been a better idea.  Then Fade Step.

Weakness is important.  It seems really lame, because they don't explain it really well, but it's awesome.  With it you can cripple all of the enemies, because very few mobs, including bosses, have resistance to it.  You make all of your party members hit harder and you lessen the damage the mobs do.  And I think every Rift Mage tree attack applies Weakness.

I can't remember my exact specs and I'm constantly playing around with it.  But focus on AoE and PoA.  Also that Fade Fist thing, I can't remember the name, is amazing.

All of that being said, I'm not thrilled with the special gold attack.  Firestorm, really?  How does that make sense for Rift Mage?  I have god-like powers and the best my mark can do is fire?  Pshh.

Thank you this is really helpful. I wish it were five so I could go home and respec. Now I"m going to have to make a new staff.

And Sera makes the wise reply of "Point is, I'm with her because she's her"!

Is it Garrus syndrome again... during early ME1 days Garrus was only a bromance, and my Shep was content with that. ME2 came and answered all our prayers! Not that the likelihood of anything like that happening again is high ;-;

Rift Mage love!  I really want to know more about it.  Like what is it in the universe?  It's so mysterious.  Your Trainer went insane and the research killed a bunch of mages, but we just easily learn it without any repercussions.

Hmm...

I need more lore!  Solas, I need you to explain things to me.

Perhaps he is jealous of Sera there. I mean if he does have romantic feelings towards Lavellan it could be his way of trying to stir up trouble while not directly saying why he's trying to stir up trouble.

Anybody else get the notion that she was just a spirit completely not understanding the whole "real world" thing?  Just me?

She was the reason I chose it in the beginning.  Not going to lie, I'm glad I liked it.  I never laughed harder than I did with her dialogue.  It was so messed up.

Maybe?  I thought she was Fade-addled or something.  Kinda like what happens to Lyrium users over many years.

I always thought that the result of studying Rift Magic is... your trainer... I can imagine the inq...

"Inquisitor: Greetings. I am the inquisitor!

Random: Greetings inquisitor, what brings you here?

I: I am the inquisitor!

R: Umm, yes your worship... Welcome :)

I: I am here to inquisit. Because I am, after all, the Inquisitor!

R: Right...

I: I will make your lives incredibly safe, using my incredible abilities. It will be... incredible!

R:  "

Does Solas comment anything when you choose rift?

She was by far the best.  :D

That's a possibility - he doesn't deny it when Sera asks if he's interested. He's kind of going "of course you ended up with an elf because elves" at Sera. If the banter had gone differently, I might think he was picking on her for protesting so much about elves and then ending up with one but he seems to think that it's just the natural way of things for an elf to prefer another elf - even someone like Sera who just isn't into the elf thing.

Heh. I don't see him as the type, but he doesn't deny it when Sera asks if he "fancies" Lavellan as well.

I think it's just him being Mr. Socratic method again. He's curious about Sera's position, so he's taking a position that's designed to draw her out and answer his questions. I think he's deliberately making it an elf thing to poke at her.

My headcanon is that he has a thing for a friendshipped female Lavellan whether you pursue the romance or not. Which...means I can't make a Lavellan that romances anybody else now.  :pinched: The idea of Solas silently loving the Inquisitor while she pursues someone else is heartbreaking.

Well if magic and power is all limited to your imagination, kind of like how Solas tells Vivienne she needs to step out of her comfort zone, then I think she expanded her imagination too strongly too quickly.  So now she's living almost entirely in her own head/Fade.  That's why she has issues speaking.  She isn't dumb, she just keeps forgetting to use her mouth to express herself.

Templars are like the opposite problem.  Because Templar abilities enforce reality, so I think their problem is reality becomes too real and so they can have issues thinking outside the box and experiencing emotions.

Reality versus imagination.

It's fascinating and I love it.

This made me laugh. This is totally my Elf in-game. I have no idea why the companions don't start screaming at her "We have half a ton of frigging Elf Root and Blood Lotus and our feet are soaking wet. Can we NOW go save the world?!?!!!"

It is absolutely hilarious to catch Solas lying and to point out that some things he says are weird or suspicious
He just kind of snaps and makes silly excuses and slightly disapproves. Probably gets pale and sweaty too. I can't help but smirk and think: got you, trickster

"Cant you elves just play nice for five minutes?" - Varric

Its because elves have different spirits. (Want to buy: Custom font specifically designated for jokes to put that in)

But yeah he might think of it as more 'natural' than elves ending up with other races because of how he was raised. Cullen is interested in elves and humans, and during his romance as an elf he will mention there were elves and humans at the circle and he doesn't see a difference between them because they were treated the same. Elves tend to be treated poorly by humans and visa versa. Its likely that he finds it strange for an elf to end up with a non-elf because elves tend to have the most contact with human of the races, so thus that's where the most opportunities present themselves for different races to procreate, however because the two races look at each other in a negative light they tend to put down the other race and raise their own up as superior. Basically it makes it more of a social thing than anything. If you're raised by parents/a society that hates a certain race its far more likely for you to be indoctrinated to those beliefs at one point or another.

That said, I like the dying race theory more although it is less plausible. This reminds me too much of -shudders- real life. -insert horror movie sound effect here-

Sorry for interrupting (love reading this thread :D) but here is some concept art, and I believe that's Solas with the pipe? Kind of a different side to him, haha.

A little bit of a strange question but I stopped playing my Warrior elfy because a) warriors are kinda boring and b ) she just looks completely ridiculous swinging about a greatsword that's easily the height and weight of her. Especially with her twiggy arms. Too, too unbelievable even in a world of magic, rifts and glowy hands.

So for you mage elfies, how do you play? What's your companion set up? Obviously Solas needs to be in the group at all times, but how do you roll with 2 squishy mages? Is there a good set up that includes Cole too? (Because I need to issue out hugs to him at all times.) I'm a bit out of my depth because I almost always go for two dagger rogue but that meant on previous playthroughs that I missed out on lots of Cole and Sera banter.

If you want to play as mage, I would suggest upgrade to knight-enchanter. That class is awesome, your elf can be both tank and flank as the same time but without looking ridiculous XD. As the team set up, I would suggest Solas, Cole and one warrior of your choice, I often go with Bull.
