Apparently there's a way to make armor show in Skyhold instead of the pj's with CheatEngine, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it.  :(

Heh. I don't see him as the type, but he doesn't deny it when Sera asks if he "fancies" Lavellan as well.

I think it's just him being Mr. Socratic method again. He's curious about Sera's position, so he's taking a position that's designed to draw her out and answer his questions. I think he's deliberately making it an elf thing to poke at her.

My headcanon is that he has a thing for a friendshipped female Lavellan whether you pursue the romance or not. Which...means I can't make a Lavellan that romances anybody else now.  :pinched: The idea of Solas silently loving the Inquisitor while she pursues someone else is heartbreaking.

I don't think it's that only because he should be well aware of Sera's position by the time a romance could start between her and the Inquisitor. He also says that it's "natural" for her to desire and elf. I think sometimes, especially with Sera, he's got a blind spot in how he thinks about individuals in the context of their race/culture.

I kind of agree with this. So I've had to revise how I do other playthroughs. More qunari is always good, right?

"Cant you elves just play nice for five minutes?" - Varric

Its because elves have different spirits. (Want to buy: Custom font specifically designated for jokes to put that in)

But yeah he might think of it as more 'natural' than elves ending up with other races because of how he was raised. Cullen is interested in elves and humans, and during his romance as an elf he will mention there were elves and humans at the circle and he doesn't see a difference between them because they were treated the same. Elves tend to be treated poorly by humans and visa versa. Its likely that he finds it strange for an elf to end up with a non-elf because elves tend to have the most contact with human of the races, so thus that's where the most opportunities present themselves for different races to procreate, however because the two races look at each other in a negative light they tend to put down the other race and raise their own up as superior. Basically it makes it more of a social thing than anything. If you're raised by parents/a society that hates a certain race its far more likely for you to be indoctrinated to those beliefs at one point or another.

That said, I like the dying race theory more although it is less plausible. This reminds me too much of -shudders- real life. -insert horror movie sound effect here-

I'm not necessarily sure that it's 100% a bad thing that he thinks in those terms. There are some significant differences between the races (even if they are all basically short/slender/pointy-eared/grey/horned humans when it comes down to it - there's nothing really alien about any of them appearance wise). I think it's probably an attitude that would have been perfectly at home during the days of Arlathan and he may well be trying to understand but he's kind of like the old man going "in my day..."

The dying race thing just doesn't work for Sera, unfortunately, because of her preferences.

I always thought that the result of studying Rift Magic is... your trainer... I can imagine the inq...

"Inquisitor: Greetings. I am the inquisitor!

Random: Greetings inquisitor, what brings you here?

I: I am the inquisitor!

R: Umm, yes your worship... Welcome :)

I: I am here to inquisit. Because I am, after all, the Inquisitor!

R: Right...

I: I will make your lives incredibly safe, using my incredible abilities. It will be... incredible!

R:  "

Does Solas comment anything when you choose rift?

Hahaha XD

Okay, II read this thread and many theories. I'm throwing some theories of mine around. I try to explain them as good as my confused brain let's me ;-)

**** this became way to long...

Let's start with ancient elven society... We know they had a class system. We know they all had magical abilitys. So let's say the normal mage elfs were three common people, peasants, merchants, servants, slaves.
The dreamers are super-mages, mages + *... They made up elven nobility.
Then there were elfs, dreamers + *, who were even more powerful than dreamers. Elves, but more... They were royalty, Gods. But just because you were a super - dreamer you did not automatically become royalty.

Shape-shifting is old magic and Morrigan learned it from Flemythal. Flemeth learned it from Mythal? Maybe it was a common practice for elves to take an animals form.

I believe Solas never outright lied to us. He was just an elven boy, born in some tiny village. (which was later ransacked and taken by the tevinter imperium)

He liked to dream and explore the fade. He started to wander, explore the world to see more of the fade.

And for some reason he liked to take the wolf's form.

The dread wolf... This could be an endearment. The Wolf who brings dread to our enemy.

So let's talk about the last class of elven society. The forgotten ones. Maybe they were basically elven castless'. People thrown out of the society. Wiki says there were many forgotten ones. Many castless people.

Then one day something happens to bring him in to the pantheon. Maybe he saved one of the gods (Mythal?) and she discovered he was super - dreamer. She could have made him a bodyguard or general or whatever.

He protected the people and Gods. The Wolf who brings dread to our enemy's.

Then there is his name trickster. This could mean something like he liked to play pranks or someone who is not who he says he is.

He could have been a spy. Infiltrated the forgotten ones. And learned that many were just good people. He learned to hate the unfairness of elven society.

Over time he rose in rank until they granted him royalty / godhood.

Then Humans came along and elves suddenly got new illnesses. The cut themselves of to prevent those illnesses from spreading even further. (look at the native American people after we Europeans came)

I don't belive in the quickening, but I come later to this.

Solas seems to have a good relationship with Mythal. So after she was killed (from one of the other gods) Solas became angry. I suspect he's still pretty young for an elf.

He lost a friend. He grieved and ranted and was angry at the gods.

And Mythals dead would have left some serious power void.

I belive there was already fighting between elven imperium and forgotten ones. Now Mythal is dead and the gods start to fight with each other cuz they want Mythals place and power.

There is the Solas / Sera banter in the hissing wastes. He basically explains how to build up a rebellion, cells within cells within cells.

He already infiltrated the forgotten ones. They thought he was one of them.

He walked freely on both sides.

He takes them and makes them into a real rebellion to change elven society. Maybe slaves and servants and other low casts join them. This leader of the forgotten ones gets the name Fen'Harel. Nobody really knows he is the dread wolf?

If I remember right in DA2 Fen'Harel learns that both sides craft a weapon that can end the war. So He tells the other fraction about it and uses it to trick them.

He is so disappointed of the forgotten ones. They are not better than the gods.

Power corrupts. Absolut power corrupts absolutely.

While one person may walk away from power, a group never does. (he said something like this yes?)

So he tricks them both and locks them away. Hoping that the fighting finally ends

Then he goes into uthenera. He is tired and weak.

People learn who Fen'Harel was all along. Maybe they are angry that he left them. So the bad Dread Wolf is born.

And sadly the fighting does not end.

Maybe and here everybody will start to scream at me...

What were this weapons?

Mortality and the Blight...

Whats better than just have to wait until your enemy just dies from old age.

What better than to disease your enemy that makes them a mindless dying zombie?

So Solas is asleep, and somehow mortality is set loose on the elfs?

But they backlash. Every elf becomes mortal and not just the enemy. And yeah the Blight yeah its the Blight and spreads in Arlathan.

Chaos everywhere and here comes the Tevinter Imperium, perfect time for an invasion.

Many elves maybe don't even fight the imperium, cuz they were already slaves all their lives.

The forgotten ones leaders were super - dreamers too and started to talk to Magisters.

So now here I'm not sure.

Maybe they they made the Blight so that they were the only ones who could control the infected. So the Blight spread in Arlathan/The golden city. They want the Blight to spread on the world so they can rule (crazy, all of them)

So the Magisters go to the city, it's empty and dark, and they are infected with the Blight.

They go back and infect more people. The darkspawn is born. They dig and find the first old god / forgotten one / super-dreamer... First Blight yayyy!

Many many years later Solas wakes up and is all WTF?

Okay many theories say Solas wants to free the gods and Mythal collects old gods.

I think its bigger than just restore the elves.

Maybe some enemy they can only defeat together?

If he just wanted to free the gods he could just have waited until he is strong again...

So maybe he gave the foci to Cory because there was a danger and something needed to be done now. And then Cory kept the orb and used it to rip open the veil.

Thats the reason he gets so angry at the wardens. Because they need the old gods to defeat the enemy?

Oh **** this is tldr...

Another thing.. Are we sure the dark ritual wasn't used on the other old gods too?

We don't know how old Flemeth really is, she could have sent a "daughter" to the wardens without the wardens knowing what happens. And said daughter just kills the warden who killed the archdemon and so the myth of only a warden can kill the demon is born.

Aaaand another thing... Do we know if Humans had mages before they had babies with elvs?

Omg now I want to know what pills I took... O.O

Any way yeah stupid brain is obsessed with Solas...

I think he's just being a... dick about race there, honestly. If it was really about keeping the race alive, he'd have a problem with two women being together. He's kind of going ELVEN MASTER RACE in that banter.

Solas tends to think the big patterns of history are actually meaningful 'choices' (or should at least affect people's choices), instead of the sum of tiny 'mortal' choices.

Here its elves choosing elves, but im sure he would apply it to any race. He sees it as the function of some kind of choice about where you would like your race to go instead of the simpler reality that most would simply want to mary 'the nicest girl in town' or 'someone who understands me'. And thats usually someone of the same race because availibility and socialization.

I believe races actually matter to Solas because its in the scope his god-like decision making process. Like 'how will this and that affect Thedas' races?' Its part of how he plans his chess moves. Solas likes cultures and cultures come from races. But it has nothing to do with 'those guys steal our jobs' level of racism. That would be way too small a scope to even register on his radar so to say.

I want to know why anyone has to resort to sleeping in a tavern or a barn or a couch thingy above the throne room when they live in a castle. Does Blackwall feel unworthy of the castle? Does Sera think the castle is too noble-y? Does Vivienne enjoy the thought that she gets her beauty sleep above a throne? Does Solas sleep sitting in Lotus?

Rift mage here, too. I love that RM gets a spell that is basically Singularity from Mass Effect. Makes me feel like a space wizard again.

Ha, yes! That's exactly what Pull of the Abyss reminds me of!

I'm not a mage myself (yet), but every time Solas throws one of those up and I see enemies get sucked into it, my trigger finger itches from my old Turian Sentinel in ME3MP days... twitches wanting to cast Warp in there and cause a nice biotic explosion.

I... may have issues from playing so much ME3MP over the years.

I went and re-made my character with a different world state for a Hard run... and now I really hope we get a mirror of transformation like we had in DA2. I'm too far in to want to start over again and the fact I forgot to lower blush intensity or change her eyelashes is bugging me.

Oh well... I can live with it. I think. Maybe.

I wonder how that perspective affects the relationship with Lavellan. Since he seems to want very badly for her to see him for him, - to have some understanding even if it can never be complete - is he just unable to apply the same logic to other relationships?

And then there's the banter with Cole about love where he's like, "how could they not?" He seems to understand that a relationship can have value because of the emotional benefits of it.

I'm not sure his problem is seeing things as just large scale issues but that he really does have a race elitism thing going on.

Who knows, I need more coffee to make sense of my thoughts this morning.  :P

Oh Solas, if you just ask you'd be amazed how many Lavellans would listen and follow you to hell and back because it is their choice to do so. Not without some freaking out and anger at first, though.

BTW, saw some bummed people. Have a ficlet of a happy headcanon I wrote last night!
