It's not *exactly* lashing out.  Lavellan doesn't shove him or anything.  But in the post-breakup conversation, you can say pick the bottom option at the end and say something like, "I don't know why I even bothered talking to you."  And he definitely cracks a little.

Can someone who remembers the exact dialogue help me out a bit here?

Yea...I don't feel bad about making him feel bad about it. Not one bit.

I'm slowly working my way through the stages of Solas-induced grief.  I'm firmly in the "anger" stage right now where I just wanna deck Solas for all of our poor Lavellans.  Or whack him with the "DON'T" sign.

And then maybe give him a hug and some ice cream, but only if he figures his s*** out.

Yeah, that's the line.  Thanks for finding it!

I felt horrible for making him say that in my game, but he's so distant post-breakup that it felt good just to get SOME sort of reaction out of him.  Also, dude doesn't have a leg to stand on in terms of disapproval.  Lavellan greatly disapproves of the loss of makeouts, jerkface  <_<

lol!!!

I like the middle one.. He says "You saw more than most" (under his mask) with such a regretful voice

He definitly gets taken by surprise by the emotional benefits of a relationship. Thats usually the type of answers you get from him when you choose romantic dialogue after major quests (im not used to having someone there for me, etc.) She is his connection to the present, she makes things matter (and thats against the Plan).

Solas definitly doesnt have the right attitude to convince people. But I find him much more agaisnt acculturation then pro-racism.

He also is an ass to Sera just because he can. That makes him a troll ;P

I agree. it seems to be the reason why, during banter, Cole says: " He hurts, an old pain from before, when everything sang the same. You're real, and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't". He was not expecting someone like her in his life; and the emotional connection that would arise as a result.

His reactions to Sera are hilarious. I can kind of understand why he's like that with her, she's the biggest troll of them all

I bounce back and forth between sadness and anger. But I'm mostly in the angry phase. Hence why I cackle all through my "Solas hates my guts" playthrough. I yell "**** you Solas" at the screen everytime I get a "Solas disapproves" message.

And then I go watch my Lavellan romance videos and cry inside.

That doesn't make it any better for Lavellan, though. Poor baby girl. She's good enough for saving the world but can't save his world. She can't even be a part of it, at least in his eyes. :(

It occurs to me some people might not have finished a Mahariel game in DAO? Tamlen x f!Mahariel was the OG of tragic elven romances. I happened to blunder into the Tamlen mini-romance in the Dalish origin (which was easy to miss), then later when.... I stared at the screen for five minutes. I think it's the most emotional that I ever got in DAO, mostly because I'd already played through before so it was totally unexpected. I also think that's when I started loving the Dalish, especially after a Dalish mage mod came out.

Just a tip if you're into Solavellan and haven't finished a Mahariel game in Origins.

Really, because we're also squeeing it's hard to realize how terribly cruel that scene is. She thinks he's taking her somewhere for a special experience, when what he really does is expose her ignorance (something she knows is a big negative for him), then offer to take something from her that's deeply personal and a sign of both her coming of age and of her identification with her family and people. After he's left her about as vulnerable as she could be, he dumps her with no explanation. It's no accident, I'm sure, that Cole's banter about it always has Lavellan thinking that there was some fault in her that led it to happen. I don't think Solas meant any of it to be cruel, in fact when looked at another way it's all signs of his deep caring for her, but that just shows he's freaking clueless about how he affects people.

If you pick the teary-eyed option during the breakup scene, he says "Please, vhenan," in this absolutely heartbreaking voice.  Immediately after he breaks up with Lavellan.  To me, that "Inquisitor" business is just him putting up a front to keep some distance between himself and Lavellan.

His post-breakup conversation is really, really cold unless you lash out at him, and then you get to see a bit of the facade crumble.

Yeah, I think they are both hurting post-breakup, his coldness is an effort to hide how much he still cares. I mean, right until the moment of breakup he's still trying to explain to Lavellan how much he cares, that doesn't just disappear.

Great, now I have to go and spend this months mortgage payment on a new graphics card and an extra 4mb of ram so I can count and love every pore on Solas's pointy little face. *sigh*

No kidding. I think XBO just got crossed off my list in favour of building a superior game PC. Who needs Master Chief when there is Solas?

I still replay Lavellan and Solas's romance scenes and feel all the feelz.  Then I boot up Adaar and troll Solas for a bit.  They get along OK, but Tash Adaar definitely likes to pick on him.

The "anger" phase is making writing Solas-centric fanfiction a bit challenging, though.  Hard to write smut for him and Lavellan when I just want to punch him.

I finished a Mahariel playthrough! A male Mahariel, though--he's my Warden for my Lavellan's world state, actually. He romanced Morrigan and it makes me very happy because Mythal is basically his mother-in-law. It's beautiful.

Mahariel is my cannon playthrough, same as my Lavellan. But she's pretty happy with King Alistair.

Lavellan probably relates more to my cannon Hawke, who's shaking up with Crazy-Mc-Anders-Pants.

The codex is called The Pyramids of Par Vollen, it's in the Tales section.  I wouldn't say it's a smoking gun about aliens (or anything extradimensional), but it's very interesting.  It tells about what little is known of the culture that lived on Par Vollen before the Qunari arrived.  Built pyramids and worshipped horned people.  When the Qunari arrived, they assumed they were their gods or whatever returned, and quickly discarded their prior civilization for the Qun.

Ahhh, I gotcha.  Interesting.

Based on what we know about the rise of various religions in Thedas (in a meta sense), things like this make me twitch.  Part of me suspects that the broadest strokes of Thedas' modern conflicts have their source and -to some degree- are a direct extension of the primal war between Order and Chaos:  played out through intermediaries, puppet-style, through dreams and pseudo-religious revelations planted in the fade, the one place the old powers can still affect.

The Qun in particular strikes me as a religion / social system thought up and put in place by someone with a precisely inverted world view from Solas'.   I don't have the lore background to do much more than raise an eyebrow, though.

Yes, the Dalish origin is so frickin depressing if you go that route with Tamlen, especially when he says he always loved you... UGH.

PHEW so many pages to get through!

I can't stop playing either, to the point where I'm getting **** about it from my family. lol. Apparently I don't have enough family time.

My mom asked if I was depressed today because I haven't left my house very much lately and she never sees me.  I wasn't sure if I should lie and say yes or tell her that I've been too busy playing Dragon Age  :P It's not cutting into my time with my kids but I definitely haven't seen other people as much as usual in the last month.

...you guys bought all the shirts didn't you. I want a scary shirt D:

I'm just going to cry in the corner until this gets restocked.  They'll restock it eventually, right? :crying:

So do I hun, so do I.. I was all about Kaidan in ME, maybe it is some kind of ancient Elven magic because now he just looks like pure sex to me *scratches head*

I think that's what it is, most people end up getting taken by surprise, personality wise, he hits all the right spots for me..like, every.single.one. And that's incredibly sexy.  He's...he's very much like someone that I was close to, only with pointy ears and a bald head.  You have no idea how many paralells I can draw between the two lol.  It's..almost scary.

Everything you post seems to echo my exact thoughts!  I can take a step back to look at Solas and see why some people wouldn't be attracted to him but I can't shake that "Oh god he's the sexiest Bioware LI of all time" feeling :P  His graceful walk, the way he stands with his arms crossed and his shirt blowing in the wind in Haven, his grumpy faces, that voice... and that doesn't even touch on his personality.  Ok, ok, going to try to stop gushing about him now.  The keyword here is try :pinched:

Edit:  And I think I love you, Jellobell <3  This made my day.  Now I'm going to load up my most recent Inquisitor and try to romance Cullen :(

I know I use this gif a lot but...just look at that jaw.

Spoiler

What an LI looks like is never really a dealbreaker for me, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't aesthetically prefer Solas's slimmer silhouette to Blackwall or Bull's bulkier ones.

Spoiler

I really want to thank whoever did his model. I'm always so grateful that he doesn't have the same one as the male elf PC.   He's slim, but he's bulkier than most elves, with wide shoulders.

I like the one where she says "Tell me you don't care!" and then he replies with "I can't."  You can tell he has feelings for Lavellan there.

When he says he made a mistake I'm assuming he's saying he made a mistake to give in with the relationship with Lavellan cause he ended up hurting her at the end.  I do think Solas has strong feelings for our Lavellan, he loves her but with his plans he's afraid something bad will happen to her that's why he broke up with her.

This is how I feel about it too. I'm convinced a happy ending will come at some point and when it does it will sooo be worth it. I can't even entertain the idea of it not ending well so I hope I don't have to eat these words in the future.

Does anyone else get a little flustered when Solas does that energizing veilfire animation?  I know the animation for every mage is the same, but when he does it, with those arms and those shoulders...hnnngh.  It's pretty good with Dorian too.

AHHH.  In the pre-Skyhold conversation, I love the way he saunters over to the unlit torch and lights it with a casual gesture... right up until his wrist bends back at 90 degrees.   Then I cringe and silently wonder where the animators' QA guy was.

Bioware's made some amazing progress in terms of lipsyncing and subtle facial cues, but man.  When things like that pop up, like the way Solas' fingers bend when he clutches his face after you punch him, I have to assume they have this one animation guy who's just terrible, but he's been there for 15 years and he's so nice and brings in cookies every Friday, so they can't fire him.

Get on the ball, cookie man.   TwT   You're breaking my immersion.

I'm currently sketching out a few different headcanons I can use if Solas's romance doesn't go well, but that's definitely plan B.
