I admit that isn't my thing either, but my Lavellan definitely viewed Solas as both mentor and lover.  I wouldn't describe it as "daddy kink" though, it's just sorta nuanced.  Their relationship pretty much started as a result of her fascination with how knowledgeable he was.  But yeah, by the time they became serious, I imagine the occasional use of "da'len/hahren" was just an affectionate teasing between them.

I see da'len/hahren as just being polite speech or like honorifics to show respect to someone older, or affection to someone younger, like some languages have. So I figure da'len became kind of like saying きみ in Japanese. In fact the romance gave me a Japanese drama vibe. A Japanese drama would end just like that, all ambiguous.

I've been listening to and dissecting certain banter between Solas and others and, I have to say, dude is the master at evading questions.

I have randomly started using "dreadfully" as an adverb in everyday conversation. And have also started using "Dread Wolf take me!" as an exclamation on another forum/group I frequent that has some Dragon Age chatter, among a slew of other things.
 
Doing so sort of makes me giggle inside. Like my own little inside joke. As if I'm making a very spoilerly joke in plain sight but only others who "know" will see it.

Hah, I used "spirits" a LOT. Especially when I was deep in ME3MP, where I played Turian Sentinel a lot. Like, A LOT a lot. Can't say I wasn't in-character over the mic.

I LOVE the art in this link. It is one of my favorite depictions, and I can't reblog it enough on my tumblr. But I totally understand where you are coming from.

 

I feel the same way about some of the fanfic as well. For instance, in stories where Solas calls her da'len and she calls him ha'hren. It kind of squicks me out. I totally get the appeal of this kind of thing in fanfic, especially when it gets a lil smutty! (heh, pervs.) This is totally not an insult to the people on this thread who write this fanfic. I have read them and thoroughly enjoy them!! (please write more ok? And read mine too k?) It's just not how I see my Lavellan and my Solas playing out. In my headcanon, I see her teaching him as much as he is teaching her, and I see her as saving him as much as he is saving her. 

I like the exchange where they say this at the beginning, but that's when they're in formal, polite nerdy conversation stage (for my PC anyway). But even then he hesitates to call her da'len, and I think they'd move past that right away... like, even in that conversation. By Skyhold he's calling her lethallan (with high approval). So these fanfic writers are just not paying attention or something.

 

I do imagine her maybe once, in a moment of bitterness, calling him "hahren" after the breakup. Then instantly regretting it as a petty, "hurt with politeness" kind of thing.

I... Never had the feeling of him as old... Smart and has seen much yes but older? For me he looks like an elf in his prime, something around end of 30... Maybe a young 40? And thats not old! Jeez...

Besides that? Ugly WTF? He is ****** gorgeous... I love his face and he is lanky (go away Isabella he is mine!)

But I always thought of Garrus and Turians in general as sexy. Really physical attractive. Not just their voice.

The first time I played through the game, with a human mage and knowing nothing about the big Solas reveal, the whole time during the ending party I was thinking, 'Solas, you son of a ******, you pulled us all into the Fade!' I don't know why, but the ending felt surreal, as if everyone had died but he let us dream instead of knowing that.

Yeah. The one conversation where that came up for me, he was getting shitty about the Dalish.   I just took it as part of the apology he gives when he concedes that he was being rude when your lavallen just was trying to be friendly.  Like she sort of shames him for it.  Again, it all comes down to personal interpretation of the character. It's a credit to the writing that it allows for different takes on him.

I'm really considering dropping my current playthrough to go back to Solas.  At least his romance spanned the entire game even as short as it was. I just went through 80% of Dorian's romance in about 20 minutes before even getting to the ball.    Don't understand why some of that wasn't story locked.

My Lavellan is around the same age as he supposedly is, so the fact that he paused before replying with Da'len actually worked well for me..it felt weird to him.  I don't tend to read the teacher/pupil fics either, give me equal adults.
