Honestly, I think it's just that the Skyhold outfit is wonky as hell.  (Read:  ugly crap that never should have been put in the game and pls fire artist who made them)

My Lavellan is 36, and Solas is supposed to be early to mid 40s (obviously this isn't actually accurate haha), so either way, he's still older than she is.  But that isn't really the point.  I consider my Lavellan and Solas to be equals in their relationship, but she still views him as a mentor.  It's, y'know...complicated.

 

Anyway, if someone wants to write them all "da'len/hahren", so let 'em.  Not everyone views their relationship exactly the same, obviously.  I'm also not fond of fandom policing.

Same, my Lavellan's 23.  Before the romance options were even fully announced, I figured she was fairly young and inexperienced, and she's not even a mage.  So the relationship with Solas had some pretty strong mentorshippy qualities early on.

 

But I made her like that because one of my favorite character arcs in a video game was for my Tabris, someone who started out scared and small, and wound up a total badass.  I really like that character growth, and I got to do the same thing with Lavellan.  By the mid-ish point of the game (Adamant and Halamshiral), she and Solas were a lot more equal.

IMO Lavellan's actual age is a bit of a moot point when Solas has a few thousand extra years on her    The tone of the romance is more dependent on Lavellan's experience and maturity than her age.

It's more the "they're doing it wrong" attitude that I don't really care for.  It's a common thing that tends to result in fandom ******...  One group of fans interprets a character or relationships differently, and next thing you know, people are at each others throats over it.  I prefer a live and let live sort of thing.  Even on things I don't agree with, like that artwork that's been discussed lately where Solas seems in some peoples' opinion to be "too dominating".  I don't see him like that either, but I don't think there's anything "wrong" with that picture.  Maybe that's how the artist views their relationship.  Or maybe they don't, and it's just the aesthetic.  I happen to like dark images myself, so the "dark wolf" stuff doesn't bother me because I don't consider it to mean Solas is evil.  I appreciated it as an artwork despite not agreeing with the tone it gave off.  I've seen fans bully or make pariahs out of fans who step outside of popular fanon, I just hope we never really descend into that.

My Lavellan ended up being youngish too, but I think no matter the age, he's still supposed to be more experienced in the fade and rift magic...at first anyway. But I think he's probably impressed how fast she picks things up. Note the "You are becoming quite proficient at this!" remark after she closes her first couple rifts. So I don't really see it as some dramatic "you are so inferior" type relationship. He likes people who ask questions and want to improve.

Playing for the third time. I made a female elven mage to romance Solas with..again. I named her

Nuvenin this time..which is Elvan for need.  Solas needs her. He shouldn't roam the world alone anymore. I'm really hoping they make some DLC which adds to their romance. She needs answers!

I agree completely.  I don't think we'll descend into that..we're far too lovely!  I always have a blanket fort ready anyway.  I don't tend to stray out of these forums so I have no idea how crappy people can be to each other..out there.  Not when it comes to something like that anyway.

When you chose the companion to take with you on quests, does Solas´s card change like the others? Even though Solas really respected my Inq, his card never changed. Same with Cassandras.

2 thoughts from me:

 

1) I have decided the one race/gender combination I'm never playing is a male elf. I just can't look at his boobs and take him seriously.

 

2) I see my Lavellan as in her mid-20's - maybe because she has more of a baby-face and a slight frame, compared to my human rogue, who looks more like her early 30's to me. But I think her being on the younger side is where a lot of the idealism that Solas admired came from.

I have to say, the descriptions in Elgar'nan and Andruil's entries definitely ping some Lovecraftian vibes for me.  Especially Elgar'nan.  "Shifting, shadowy mass with blazing eyes, whose form may be one or many?"  *shudders*

 

Also, who are those who cast Mythal down?  Abelas says that the humans had nothing to do with the fall of Arlathan, and Fen'Harel didn't murder her.  Other elves?  It seems unlikely that it would be other members of the elven pantheon; maybe it was some sort of external threat.

 

Ugh, these clues.  Those writers.  My head hurts.
