Yes, these lines. They were so very cryptic to me I didn't even know where to start analyzing them. So I gave up.

You got any ideas?

My best guess is that her help comes with consequences. That may be why she's watched the world become what it is instead of trying to fix it, like Solas does.

She'll also say that she (and Morrigan) works to preserve the old magic because of something that should not have happened. It's probably safe to say that the thing that shouldn't have happened/the world being betrayed/the magic going away were all connected. Also possibly connected to Solas's original mistake and/or his current plans.

Hi everyone, I'm dropping by on this topic to ask guidance about the Solas Romance: does romancing Solas with a mage get alternative convo compared to romancing him with a non-mage? In one other romance I did (Cullen) there are quite some occasions that mages get alternative convo options (the whole ex-Templar & mage dynamic).

I'm making a Lady Lavellan for Solas. I like both the idea of archer & mage, but if I make a mage it'll be redundant for battle dynamic with Solas already being a mage.

I think there's a flirt that changes by class. There's no additional content for mages.

Not a ton of alternate dialogue, but I personally like the idea of a mage quizzing him about the Fade and magic.

And two mages is actually really good. Mages can fill a lot of roles, and are generally useful (Knight Enchanter can facetank a dragon). Heck, I rolled a 4 mage party for a while and we destroyed everything that had the misfortune of pissing us off.

It'd be wonderful if he'd have to answer lots of questions about Solas.

Maybe it would spark something  :bandit: (like the understanding there are fans who need him to continue his story)

I was wondering why the subtitles were like that.

I do find it weird however that Dorian does not respond. At all. To the romance.

I know, right?! You'd think he'd be all "Brown Chicken Brown Cowwww, Quizzzie? Tell me about the Deeeeeeee!"

I want to know if Felassan's vallaslin is one of the ones that we see in the game...(except that would probably be way too spoilery.) If I though he'd answer the question I'd consider becoming a bird to ask.

Did the book describe Felassan's vallaslin?

I ask because how the nobles of Arlathan used slave marking doesn't make much sense to me and I'm wondering if the reason there's no such thing a Fen'Harel vallaslin because he disdained the whole practice.

Yeah, since you can pick KE and just be a magetank, at least on normal/hard you can spec all your remaining party members for damage and proceed to faceroll everything in the game. ^_^

Felassan's vallaslin was described as curling around his eyes.  Which makes me think of the vallaslin that fandom calls the Mythal vallaslin.

Yeah, I wondered the same about the lack of a Fen'Harel vallaslin.

Hahahahahahah XD

Totally.

And he'd have his comments about his distaste in fashion, maybe try to convince Lavellan to help him pick clothes.

Or I don't know.

Hello Solas thread,

I just wanted to stop in & say that I really was not expecting to like Solas. I figured I would never use him in my party. To my surprise, I actually ended up liking him a great deal. He felt like a mentor & a voice of reason to my inquisitor. I ended up using him quite a bit, more than anticipated. I was especially shocked by the ending scene, and still have questions about it. But it seems like the first page has a lot of good links to find more info. Anyway, just wanted to give props to such an interesting & well written character!

Also want to share this fanart because I think it is pretty in-character but it's also NSFW (because topless Lavellan) so just a link: http://hawkeeffect.t...st/105466613901

aaaw, that fan art... <3  It feels like this would be his disposition if he came back, and they reunited. He'd show contrition, venerate her, and be relieved to have her back...  :(

I think it's understandable that he left. He was set on a path before he ever met Lavellan, and had to continue it without letting anything deter him. His conversations with Cole are telling, he says something like: “Sometimes you have to give a person what they need, and not what they want”. Breaking it off with the inquisitor isn’t less painful for him than for her. Partly it seems like he is punishing himself for mistakes. He’s afraid of dying alone, yet he says he has to walk his path “alone forever”. If anything, I feel sad for him.

I think that's the general consensus on why there is no Fen'Harel vallaslin.

I want to know if Felassan's is one from the game because it might give further insight on who his master is or isn't.

Stray thought since it's a "slow" moment on the thread...

Do we think Solas at one point had parents? He talks about being a child in a village once. Assuming he is not some sort of Spirit Made Real, perhaps ancient elven culture was more similar to the Qunari in terms of parents, in that there aren't "mothers" and "fathers" - children are raised by caretakers/the clan. Or - like almost every other non-noble character in DA - he just has no reason to talk about his parents. The Dalish don't seem to have a huge connection to their parents, perhaps because they have to be ready to go to another clan if their own gets too large/they want to get married.

I don't think it's super-relevant to the story. But I had a funny "what if Solas' parents were still alive and just asleep and what if Lavellan met them" moment.

Regarding Dalish parents, some were at least mentioned. Mahariel's parents were...but they're dead. Zathrian was a parent, but his children...well, they're dead. Who can say what families were like in ancient elven culture.

As for Solas's parents, I think it's probably best if they never wake up if they are still alive. They would be so disappointed with their son's choice in career.

You know, I have to wonder. How many hours a day does the average Solas fan spends doing Solas related things?

A month later and I still can't get over the fact that Bioware let us make out with Fen'Harel.

You know, that should be a T-shirt.

"I made out with Fen'Harel."

"And all I got was this T-shirt."

"Disappointing my Keeper since 9:40 Dragon"

Quotes like this are the reason I read through every page in this thread instead of just skipping to the end when I get home from work. I laughed so hard I started tearing up reading some of this stuff.

If anything like that ends up on a t-shirt with the hierophant graphic, I will proudly wear it to work and confuse all my nerdy co-workers. Thanks to everyone for posting their theories about the elven gods and digging up the lore I missed in the game as well! Keep it coming!

As a side note - was anyone around after Mass Effect 3 for the Indoctrination theory stuff? I think it's sort of awesome that Fen'Harel and other lore information was planted into Inquisition on purpose for fans to find (like Solas's quest name anagram and the translated codex entries after drinking from the Well). Apparently they now realize we delight in over-analyzing things. Who knew? ;)

The song for a breakup where you have no clue why it happened. My poor Lavellan would listen to this on auto repeat. Next she's gonna try Cindi Lauper  :P

Well, I would guess even if he is a Spirit-Made-Real, he probably shared a body with a host at some point before he underwent that process, and that host may have been born in that village.  So, I'd say even if he's a spirit he understands and values the concept of parents.  His, however, are probably long dead.

Something to consider might be, in following with the Solas-woke-up-and-was-Shartan theory, that it was Shartan who was born in that village so long ago, and yet long after the fall of Arlathan.

The one thing that makes me shake my head "no" at Solas being Shartan though (granted, he may have inspired Shartan) is that the world was already a huge mess by the time of Andraste and Shartan.  Yet, he seems so surprised that it's in such a state in the Dragon Age.  Could he have woken and thought he'd fixed his mistakes before?  Yes.  But, it just feels "off" to me.

Someone a few pages back was explaining what the Hierophant card was supposed to mean... sacrificing individuality for an ideal?  So in that context, would that mean that Solas is giving up the romance because of the greater good?  How sad...

I really hope we do get DLC.  Maybe more than one DLC, so we can have a real resolution to Solas's romance and maybe a bit less sorrow.  Otherwise I think we're all going to be renaming our Inquisitors Abelas, and that will be... awkward.

(Or you could just do like me and name one Numinera... just call her what she is:  A tear-jerker.  In elven.)
