Well... this is my first and canon Lavellan with the Elgar'nan vallaslin.
I created her before knowing about Solas' romance and the removal of the vallaslin and she looked so naked afterwards...
Spoiler
Yea....that one's a pretty big change....
I did the Mythal one (I think, the one Abelas has), and I kept feeling like my eyebrows got lost in the lines - so I gave myself one of the less-clean eyebrows to compensate. Also some pretty heavy eye makeup.
They need to come out with a character updater so Lavellan can learn to pluck her eyebrows and do makeup correctly.
Awww I love all the art in this thread. I can't draw or paint for the life of me, but I like writing (something which ironically I only recently picked up again. This game!)
Which leads me to this: is there a Solas meme for the holidays to keep us (me) busy? Do you have any prompts, anything you want to read? I'd like to write some things as soon as I find the time (which I should have plenty of next week).
I'm happy to write just for myself, but I really enjoy writing for other people as well. So, feedback, comments, demands or anything really is highly appreciated
Spoiler
Here's a fic I'm writing on for Solas/Lavellan, it's pretty close to the DA:I story right now, but I'll put some variety in soon enough. I have a kink chapter in mind I might or might not include and I want to write plenty of stuff involving other companions like Dorian, Sera or the Bull. The Lavellan I'm writing is an awkward dork at the moment, but she'll come around. Don't let that sassy elf get into your head, Melia
(oh and there's also a short Sera/Cullen brotp drabble on my profile which I wrote pre-release and been meaning to adjust to get Sera's character better)
There are other things I want to write and might bump up in my priority list if anyone else is interested, like a Harding/Dagna pairing (either as friends or romance) or AUs.
(you're so nice in this thread that I'm brave enough to share my work. I hope maybe one of you likes it )
Just wondering if you guys know, do companions repeat banters? Because the banter where Cassandra asks Solas about the removal of my Lavellan's vallaslin has happened about 3 times now, each on separate play sessions. The third time just happened a few minutes ago. (Cass, I love you but please stop asking about her vallaslin. )
That's probably a bug. There's a bug like that in Awakening where Anders will constantly tell Velanna that her vallaslin is sexy. So... maybe shems like vallaslin?
So I finished the Temple of Mythal tonight and am now up to the final fight...thing is I don't want Solas to go :'( So I'll probably hold off on finishing the game until some sort of resolution comes out.
Rewatching all the temple cutscenes got me thinking though (after reading the epic kotaku article:))...
Sandal (from DA:O/2) had a prophecy about the breach, which came sorta true in DAI (see: ). Could the 'he' be Solas? Unless Sandal's talking about Cory, but Cory didn't make anyone 'see' anything as far as I can tell. He just seemed like a crazy dude who saw the chance of being a 'god' fall into his lap.
Solas wants to restore what was; he wants everyone to see how magic is not to be feared. I mean isn't that one of his dreams, where spirits and people coexist? I wonder if Solas is actually some sort of spirit himself, sort of like Cole. I wouldn't be surprised if he was even the Maker himself (that would be pretty crazy but it also makes sense to me at the moment), trying to make his past actions right. The way he can talk through Cole after the final battle, and also make him forget is ...I dunno. Weird.
Morrigan said in the Temple that the dread old gods 'rise as archdemons, and they die'. So, could Solas, as the Maker, have actually sealed the old gods underground, turning them into archdemons? Which might explain why Solas decided to give the orb to Cory in the first place since he is an ancient darkspawn, and also explain's Kieran's old god soul from the archdemon killed in Origins. It would also explain why Solas hates the wardens so much.
And then it turns out Mythal/Flemeth wanted Kieran's old god soul all along, whether to manipulate or to set free (which I think is the blue orb Flemeth passes through the eluvium). Mythal and Solas seemed pretty friendly, I'm guessing they have some close history to do with Mythal's betrayal/murder, except they were most likely on the same side. Which is why I think Solas could be the actual 'Maker', and Mythal/Flemeth, Andraste. Andraste was betrayed and burned at the stake, but her followers believed she was reborn as a dragon. If this is the case, part of the elven lore and part of the chantry's beliefs crosses paths at this point. And also explains why Flemeth can shapeshift into a dragon.
Solas had pretty similar facial features to Abelas, and also made no footprints in the snow (I don't know if this was deliberate but I'll go with it) which convinces me he is actually some sort of ancient 'god' and not a man housing a soul like Flemeth is with Mythal. Consequently, I think Flemeth's body is dead, but her soul has been absorbed by Solas. Flemeth says that Mythal is a part of her 'like your heart is part of your chest' so it would be hard to separate the two. I don't know how this will play out in the future though, I mean Flemeth is so recognisable it'd be weird seeing her as Solas...if you get what I mean.
Either way, I think Solas will likely be some sort of villain or major arch enemy in the next game/expansion, I hope that's not the case but I can't see the inquisitor and Solas having a happy ever after, not with him and Mythal working together. Their plans seem pretty big, I doubt this will all be resolved in some DLC. I'm guessing this will be for a new game altogether....which will hopefully come soon so I can get some closure!
I think when I (eventually) replay my canon Lavellan, I'm going to make her vallaslin darker. They were still visible, but they were pretty subtle, and I'd like their removal to be more dramatic.
Also, is it just me, or do most of our Lavellans have either June, Mythal, or Ghilan'nain for their vallaslin? I've hardly seen any with the crazy full-face Elgar'nan one.
I intentionally chose the more dramatic vallaslin with the removal scene in mind. Also, the one my Lavellan uses reminded me of an octopus so I pretty much ended up diggin' it - not sure which "God" the relate to. I miss them now that they're gone...

I think the Sandal prophecy is referring to Solas, but still hasn't happened yet.
I think it refers to what's going to happen when Solas accomplishes his goals. Hopefully the plotline of DA4, just cos I don't want to wait longer than that...
I agree with you. I'd rather we continue to have insightful discussions and interesting speculation in place here to help keep this from becoming a fangirl romance thread. Solas deserves more than to be reduced to how many kisses you get with him. His character is way more interesting and involved than his butt-grabbing moments.
...not that those moments were bad.
I could not agree more. As much as I think the romance is sweet...it is the sweetest, he's a fascinating and well written character. His discussions with Cassandra about faith and morality are some of my favorite in the game. I'm listening to them as I walk along and wishing that my girl would pipe up.

He can also enchant Cole's amulet, something mages usually can't do.
I have come to a new theory about Mythal though: what if Solas sends her spirit to the Fade (or another world)? Before she collapses in his arms there's a greenish cloud in front of his face, and then the "spirit" or "power" of Mythal goes into the Eluvian (00:42). After that Solas looks up, his eyes glowing and he has this fog around him that reminded me of Anders' Justice episodes. So maybe Solas only took the Old God soul or her power or whatever but send her spirit into the Fade or another realm? He definietely sends something through the Eluvian, I cannot unsee this anymore. Halp?
I'm thinking of making my second playthrough a female elf to romance Solas, but is their any advantage to also being a mage? My first playthrough was a mage and even though it's my favorite class I'm kind of leaning toward playing a rogue.
Thank you!! *air hug so my really vicious viruses stay with me*
RE: Banters
I must have selected a hidden "introvert" option in the Keep or something; I hardly ever get banters. I was running around for hours with Solas and Blackwall in my party cause I had read about their great banters here and all I got was a couple lines about being soldiers I already forgot Switched parties, changed areas, nothing.
Traveling from the war table instead of random locations in Skyhold fixed the banter for me; seems to have worked for other people too.
I made a Solas and Lavellan fan video to Rufus Wainwright's "Hallelujah". I hope you guys enjoy it . I may make a version 2 later, hehe.
So awesome! This is one of my favorite covers of the song. Thanks for making this and sharing it with us!
Can I just say it's kinda weird that Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" got me through all of my real life breakups, and now it's following me into video game breakups?

Not really. I'm on my second playthrough as a rogue Lavellan. I got the (I forgot what it's called exactly) perk where you get mage knowledge during conversations, and I think I have so far gotten (most) of the same dialogue options as with my first playthrough as a mage romancing Solas. The nice thing about those perks is wherever there might be a dialogue option a mage could choose, you can get them with any class. I believe the same goes for the underworld knowledge and any other class-specific dialogue options.
The only one I can think is different is a couple of lines of dialogue in the beginning, in Haven, when you talk to Solas and he will comment on your focus as a mage, or your gracefulness as a rogue, I'm not sure what he says as a warrior.
More random thoughts... I'm kind of wishing I had bought this game from my PC instead of my Xbox360. All the mods I'll be missing out on. I want my elf to have long hair and a pretty ballgown instead of that ugly uniform. I can just see Solas and her dancing in my mind... she looks so beautiful in a gown.

Solas will also comment on mage specializations. I think that might be the only "extra" dialogue you get with playing a mage, though apparently the Rift Mage dialogue is particularly buggy and doesn't trigger for everyone.
I got a weird bug where Varric got stuck on the artificer conversation and refused to talk about anything but Three-Eyes. I think he was jealous

For me it was because I started by modifying the first preset face, which has Ghilan'nain's, and by the time I got around to that slider I'd mentally accepted it and it looked too weird to change to anything else. Funny how that works

I am not sure, for me it seems like Mythal sends something through the eluvian before she speaks to Solas, what Solas absorbs I am not certain of at all.. Correct me if i am wrong ( haven't played the previous Dragon age games ) But if he absorbs "only" the Old God Sould, would he still be himself? hm.. Ok, I need to to read on wiki again..

Oh, I just noticed that Maybe you're right, Solas is absorbing Mythal's powers but sent her soul through the eluvium since I doubt he'd want Mythal's soul in him too. It's too vague to be sure, but it's interesting.
Does it make anyone else laugh how different Solas is when he likes you compared to if he's not so fond of you? He can go from terribly harsh to sweetheart in two seconds flat. It's so noticeable in how his interactions with Iron Bull evolve if you choose not to let the Chargers die in his personal quest. And he's so chill with Cassandra and so gentle with Cole, then he turns around and completely wrecks Vivienne in their banter. It's great!

...or maybe Mythal "escapes" through the Eluvian or... the Old God escapes or... ugh. This makes my head hurt but it's fun
Does Solas comment on any other class specializations? Supposedly companions have something to say about all of them...? I wonder if I can go back and see if it fires in my first run.

I didn't get any comments from Solas on the Artificer--I think Varric and Bianca are the only ones who comments on that one. I know Leliana and Dorian comment on Assassin, but I don't think Solas does for that one either.
I wonder if Solas comments on Templar. I almost wanna roll a warrior Lavellan with the templar specialization just to troll that stupid pajama elf.
