Maybe jello is right. Maybe he is only laughing at our broken hearts because he plans to pick up the pieces and put them back together. Laughing at us without such an intention...it's just too cruel, right? A man who cares about the fans of his work would not do such a horrible thing, right? Right?

 

I'm going to listen to some sad country music now. Maybe "I'll Walk" or "Paint me a Bermingham" or "It Starts with Goodbye."

 

I hope! It would be a bit cruel to like everyone's posts and then be like, "but actually yes, I am going to break your heart again and probably in a way that's much worse." If Solas is going to get a sad end, I think Weekes will at least make it a good sad ending..ugh...

 

In my head Solas probably grew up as a weird kid in a small town (he pretty much says so). All the other elvehn "gods" were probably already in power by the time he was born. He just wanted to sleep and explore the fade and hated the waking life. It wasn't until he got older that he realized the power he had, and used his intelligence to get what he wanted. I assume the fade has the most valuable amount of knowledge and showed him ways to gain magical power in order to be a force in the political game that was the Elvehn empire. 

 

Anyway so I think that when people call him weird and stuff now, it might actually hurt him in a way that he does not recognize but definitely feels. 

 

Ghilan'nain is the youngest "god" according to the legends. I do see Fen'Harel as sort of a younger god, but maybe a step above a few of the others. It also sounds like all of the gods were Dreamers (or at least Falon'Din), so that by itself might not have been as impressive. I bet he has/had some power we haven't yet seen.

I killed off my canon Hawke too.  My no-kidding, first playthrough, this-is-my-official-worldstate canon Hawke, who I wrote fanfiction for and speculated about for the years between DA2 and DA:I.  And Warden!Alistair was romanced in my game too.  I couldn't even bring myself to talk to Varric.  I literally ran around the Keep, crafted, grew elfroot, waited for the freaking war table missions to finish, and stalled for over an hour before talking to him.  I felt so, so awful.

 

Oh, and she romanced Anders.  Christ, I have nothing to complain about when it comes to the Solas romance.  I'm apparently the worst sort of video game masochist.

 

Damn.

 

This canon run, I ended up killing Loghain. Which actually made me sick to my stomach because I adore him and I actually have a currently-in-hiatus fanfic where my Warden actually ends up hooking up with him a little because, well, it was to answer a (writing) challenge, actually, and because I adore his character arc. I have a feeling that Warden may NEVER SPEAK TO ME AGAIN at this point.

 

But it was that or my canon Hawke who romanced Anders, and I... I just couldn't do that to Anders/Justice.

And funnily enough, in randomly chatting back and forth with Karin Weekes (BioWare editor and Patrick's wife), I was poking at her about the cruelty of that plotline, and she asked me who I chose, and I told her and my reasoning ("couldn't do that to Anders/Justice") and her response was "Yeah, Anders/Justice needed that." WHICH MEANS NOTHING, Speculation Hounds, as she's an editor and not a writer, but that did make me feel a little validated in an otherwise shitacular choice.

I've found that the pandora stations for David Nail and Of Monsters and Men encompass Caer Lavellan and Solas' relationship really well. My favorite song at the moment is Silhouettes by Of Monsters and Men

......I finally finished the game for the first time with my Lavellan. I didn't weep (almost) cause I've already cried my tears and knew what was going to happen. Solas is an Amazing character,top favorite. The game is Great and I don't regret romancing him at all. (he's ruined me I can't romance anyone else lol).

And from what I've gathered we are expecting to see Solas again hopefully in a DLC soon.

It's Desire. Which, given what I know about Desire demons, doesn't make much sense to me. But okay. Solas says it in one of his early discussions talking about Wisdom and Purpose being corrupted into Pride and Desire. I was also thrown with the inclusion of the Envy demon because Desire originally had that one pretty well covered in the past two games and seemed to do the job much better when it came to actually exploiting people over it.

Pessimism is mean. Can someone please poke some holes in the whole freeing-the-gods theory so I can stop worrying about fictional characters? (I will also accept hot chocolate). Because...

...if Solas is the one who locked the gods away, then they've had hundreds of years to plan revenge. Most of the time when I read stories about vindictive gods (like the Greek/Roman pantheons for example), they do creatively awful things like torture their victim during the day and then heal them at night just to start over again in the morning. Rinse, repeat. Forever.

 

And if you believe something like that is in your future, it's a darn good reason to break up with your lover (who would most certainly be targeted). And for an old friend to say she's sorry (about your impending, never-ending torment).

 

It's obvious the elves of Thedas are in a really bad way. The Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts quest really got to me because of how all those stupid, snooty nobles whisper about Lavellan being a savage in the beginning (minus 10 favor off the bat!) and then go on endlessly about 'elves shirking their duties' while said servants were probably lying in pools of their own blood. Something has to change. But freeing the elven gods seems like a really, really bad solution. Especially if it puts Solas at the mercy of a bunch of super powerful psychopaths. So, something else please?

They are in the artbook and I found one quest where it feels like they were mentioned, but they're not in the same form they were in previous games. Imshael claims to be one, so I suppose the answer is yes. I don't read the tie in fiction so the part where he was a guy and never took the form of an actual desire demon for all his flickering was a little weird. They could have an incubus to the succubus, but they are missing as an enemy type from the game. No explanation for why.

I found that a bit weird, since he so adamantly insists he is a spirit of Choice in TME. Like how did that switch? Or is Desire really corrupted Choice? Or was he just lying before?

 

I wonder if they left out the Desire demon for political reasons? I never really liked the design of Desire anyway, it was a bit uncomfortable...but maybe they just wanted to make the newer demons take center stage (like envy), and Desire takes a lot of dialogue to really be effective.
