So, insomnia strikes again T_T.  Anyway, I'm thinking about making (another) Solas fan video... I think I'm hooked.  Any votes on what would make for a good Sollavellan theme song?

Here's what I had in mind for possible songs.  I really need to collect more video clips before I make a new video, though, since most are from the first half of the game XD

Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter

Flyleaf - All Around Me

Snow Patrol - Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Pocahontas - If I Never Knew You

I'd really like to see a video using Pocahontas' "If I Never Knew You" since I've always thought that that song fits with Sollavellan really well. Plus, I'm a sucker for Disney. ;)

EDIT: Also, I'm out of likes... Darn it! Here, have this instead: <3

If whatever Solas is doing is going to take away blights and red lyrium it sounds like it might be a good idea. Though...what would the consequences of that be? I feel like a lot of people might have to suffer if things change.

Though honestly given a huge number of elves still being slaves in Tevinter, Alienage elves essentially being slaves in all but name, Dalish not having a homeland, mages being forced into Circles, Templars being forcibly addicted to lyrium (including red lyrium), people being conscripted into the Wardens and forced to drink the Taint, the fact that Fereldan hasn't recovered more than 10 years after a Blight (and the Mages/ Templars gone wild in the Hinterlands not having helped), the Qun, mass poverty etc.. lots of people are already suffering..

My big concern if Solas is planning to do that is that Thedas does not have the infrastructure even in Tevinter to handle that many mages esp not immortal ones. This is for several reasons.

  • Mages no longer have the infrastructure of the Circles to teach  the apprentices they already have forget about  teaching all Elvhen children and adults to use magic, as well as handling a 25% increase in the number of human mages, and qunari mages, and the fact that dwarf mages will exist at all in any numbers (Dagna would be ecstatic though).
  • It won't bring Arlathan back- I don't think that Solas realizes (though having observed and helped the elves over the last 2000 years Flemythal does) that it wasn't magic, or the veil, or immortality that made Arlathan Arlathan- it was the people and those people are mostly gone except a few somniari like Solas and Abelas who escaped the aftermath of Solas freeing the slaves and the fall of Arlathan.
  • The elves don't have the infrastructure to tend huge numbers of their population being in Uthenera at one time, nor do they have the ability to train Somniari anymore as is seen when you have to send Feynriel to Tevinter to be trained in DAII.
  • Elves no longer have a homeland. This would prevent them from developing the infrastructure to tend those in uthenera, and to teach mages en masse. Yes the Dalish were deeded the Brecilian Forest after DAO but no one ever claimed it even if Merrill didn't wipe out her clan.
  • Restoring their magic and immortality could potentially lead to them being slaughtered wholesale by the humans -- again

This being said it could change things for the better because spirits who tend to become demons won't do so - because the reason they do so is that they want to exist in the physical world rather than the Fade- if they can go there anytime they want they won't become demons.

Of course past actions indicate that while Solas is great at big picture planning he kind of sucks at focusing on short term plans, building infrastructure, and putting measures in place to prevent people from abusing rights/privileges/power once they have it .. . he needs his Quizzy for that-- as the leader of the Inquisition she is good at that

Hmm, which version do you think would work best?  The "theatrical" (though cut lol) version or the promotional version?

OMG! This is the first time I saw the theatrical version!! It's beautiful! I'm tearing up.  :crying: (Why didn't they include that song when they released the movie years ago?)

What I had in mind was the promotional version since that's the one I was familiar with until now, but I think the theatrical version is pretty nice too. :)

EDIT: On another subject, that banter with Cass talking to Solas about Lavellan's lack of vallaslin happened again. This is the 4th time now. Seems like Cassandra reeeaally wouldn't let the subject go. xD

I watched Cullen's romance on youtube and thought it was very sweet, but having seen it I can live without pursuing it. I might try it in a few years from now after Solas and Quizzy have their happy ending (I will believe it's going to happen unless it doesn't and then I'm still going to believe ), but Solas's romance is just...intense and magical. Literally it's magic. Their first romantic encounter takes place in a frigging dream but it's still the real deal. Their second kiss is sweet melancholy and he speaks in elven. How do I even describe the final scene? I can't do it justice. Just, the scene where he removes the vallaslin is as intimate as any sex scene could be. And in all three scenes their expressions are amazing. In the final scene especially. They both look so in love, and when Solas's face falls after the kiss you can see that she notices when she tilts her head and looks concerned. Cullen's, Blackwall's, and Bull's romances are nice, I've watched all of them, but I am so so so so so so so so so so so so glad they added Solas. It's frigging magical. And when you factor in that he's a suffering and misunderstood mythological figure it becomes a literal fairy tale. Magical.

Wow, so many new revelations! The idol, the twitter pic... mmm! You're the best, ladies.

(As for Flemeth/Solas/OGB/souls/etc, I think Solas is still Solas. He believes in freedom and choice and inherent right of all sentient beings to exist. The worst thing to him would be Tranquility or change of personality - death of self. He'd never agree to this, even for them).

So, last night I discovered another Solas flirt(the last one in this list here, just scroll down).

Solas flirt options:

- "I'll protect you" in his first Haven dialogue;

- "Indomitable focus/grace" in "Why study the Fade?"

- "Looking forward to helping you make new friends" in talking about spirits;

- "You don't have to do this alone" after his spirit friend quest, when he comes back to Skyhold;

- "You're an amazing man" after Briala quest(doesn't show if you reunite Briala and Celene, but shows if all three survive, or if Briala rules through Gaspard);

- flirt options in three romance scenes and short dialogues right after the first and the third scene("Sleep well?" "What about us?")

- "Would you dance with me?" at the ball and a short scene after the ball;

- "I appreciate you talking to me about this" after the mages have been recruited at Redcliffe.

So, yes, the after-Redcliffe flirt - I haven't seen it before, so I'm posting it now. This time I played through Fallow Mire, Storm Coast, Forgotten Oasis and the Hinterlands before that quest, and got tons of approval, so he started calling me "My friend". I don't know if it's related, but after I allied with mages and got another ton of approval, I came to talk to him about the journey to the future, and there was a flirt option. It went about like this:

Thank you for talking to me about this. Most people wouldn't be able to wrap their heads about it. - I am not most people. - and then he says(paraphrased): If you wish to talk to me about Orlesian fashion, I would be at a loss. Magical surprises I can handle.

(And, of course, I laughed out loud. Solas! Of course you don't know about Orlesian fashion, just look at that hat you wore at the ball!)

Anyway, here it is. If you know of any more flirts I skipped, please, let us know(or link a youtube video)!

Beautifully said!  :crying: I wanted to say something to add to that, but I think you pretty much nailed everything I thought about Solas' romance arc. Gotta say, I'll never stop being impressed with the animation of their expressions during those scenes. You could definitely tell they're so in love.

Exactly, and I guess that's one benefit of him being exclusive to only Elven females (whether or not it's a good thing is another topic)- they nailed the animations down without worrying about any differences between races/genders.  Their body language and facial expressions are breathtakingly beautiful, happy, and sad in all their romance scenes.  I actually cried while watching them.  They touched me so deeply, and that's never happened before from a video game romance.  Even the ones I used to fangirl over (Alistair and Garrus) never touched me on the level that Solas's romance did.  There's just something about it that the typical happy, fluffy ones can't do.

I cried as well. Heck, even my sister (whose Lavellan romanced Blackwall) teared up when she watched Solas' final romance scene on YouTube. (She's currently trying the Cullen romance with her Trevelyan but I'm trying to convince her to try romancing Solas for her 3rd playthrough so she could join me in misery. xD)

Yes, I seriously never thought that Solas' romance could even top the Alistair and Kaidan romance for me (and I was a BIG fangirl of their romances). I want to try the Cullen romance, I really do. Especially since people keep saying it's so fluffy and sweet. But I'm having hard time letting go of my Lavellan playthrough and my male Trevelyan who is supposed to romance Cass is still stuck in Haven and hasn't really progressed much. I'm usually okay with playing the game a second time with different characters and love interests but this time it just feels so... wrong.

I swear Solas' romance has ruined everything for me (though in a good way). xD I have a problem.  :wacko:

Sorry for the rambling... :P

Very interesting. I am more inclined to think she means figuratively, the form of the dread wolf and not specifically the dread wolf. But I really don't know. Good catch.

Sort of off topic, but has anyone seen Yahtzee's review for Dragon Age: Inquisition yet?  I love the game, don't get me wrong, but his commentary on the game (as usual) had me in stitches XD

So I *finally* reached Skyhold in a non-Lavellan playthrough: Tash Adaar, punchy mage and disarmingly charming badass.

Spoiler

TBH I'm really glad I played a different background.  Tash and Solas are relatively friendly, but there's a very different dynamic to Solas's conversations when you're not an elf.  He's a little more distant, calculating, but you can tell when you've earned his respect.  And I think he really does want the Inquisitor to respect him in turn; he goes out of his way to reach out to the PC and share his views.  I almost wish my Lavellan had pushed Solas' buttons a bit more; Tash isn't afraid to tell Solas when he thinks he's full of s***, and some of the conversations are actually longer and more illuminating when you disagree with him.  This character, he's crazy well-written.

Right, supposed to be romancing Dorian this playthrough, not gushing over Solas even more.

This is just a hunch, but perhaps the Lyrium Idol was Mythal's Focus, similar to how the Orb was Solas'. They certainly both have similar powers, also being a repository of Mythal's power (goddess of justice/vengeance) could explain why Meredith went off the deep end. If the idol has been blighted then it's been corrupted from its original purpose.

Remember how Solas asked if the Anchor has changed the Inquisitor at all? Perhaps the Elven Foci can change the personality of a mortal bearer to that of its patron deity?
