So...you were still able to initiate romances with other people right up until before the break up scene?

 

I'm pretty sure it DOES lock in after the balcony scene, its just the achievement doesn't come up until the break up scene. I *tried* to initiate a romance with Cullen on my first play through (I wanted to see if "the game" considered Solas and Lavellan to be in a relationship, because I was like "HE KEEPS RUNNING AWAY!"). But Cullen was all like "uh, you're already with someone. Totes not appropriate."

 

Hmm...  In my first playthrough I thought I was still flirting a bit with Cullen after the balcony scene, mostly just to say nice things to him. The guy seemed like he needs a lot of kindness. But you may be right, the flag could be set for the Solas romance by that point. (The only other person I ever flirt with is Dorian, because Dorian, and those options never seem to go away)

First playthrough I was a dwarf but dragged Solas everywhere, at some point I started singing "I'm brining sexy back" (and I don't even like that song, it's because of YuGiOh abridged)

So I decided to do this, this expresses quite well how my Levallan's mind work (jk jk, it's my mind not hers :<)

TBH, I wanted to show a bit of love to Cullen. The flirt lines at the beginning sounded to me more nice than flirty (and I felt great pity towards him), but I got scared I'd mess up and lock myself into some romance and won't be able to continue with Solas, so I avoided all flirting.

You know who you really need to flirt with? Cassandra and Dorian. 

 

Dorian because he's my GBF forever and ever and Cassandra because it's HILARIOUS. I've found you can use the "flirt" heart and it doesn't always come off flirty, sometimes it's really the best thing to say or the most "you're my best friend" ish.

 

This is why the idea of a heart button that you'd only use for "flirts" kind of annoys me. I wish there was a "BFF" button.

 

Last night I used it on Cassandra when we talked about her being Divine and she goes "You know what they will say about you for years to come? That you're HILARIOUS."

I definitely lol'd at this. I completely forgot about that YuGiOh abridged episode so I wasn't sure what to expect, then the music started and, had I been drinking anything it would have gone everywhere.

Has anyone been through with a male Dalish?    I was wondering, does Solas only tell his romanced Dalish about the Vallaslin and offer to remove them?   Only I was thinking about the comment before the game came out about there being strong story reasons why he can only romance a female elf.    Now I get the elf bit but it seems to me that he makes a big deal out of the attraction he has for her being as a unique, wonderful person, with the physical aspect hardly mentioned at all.   It is one of the things I loved about him.   However, that being the case,  why couldn't he feel an equally strong attraction to a male Dalish who made exactly the same choices as his beloved female Lavellan?     In fact, if the truth about the Vallaslin is only available to a female Lavellan, it seems rather hard on an equally wonderful male Lavellan that they are left in ignorance and allowed to continue on through life with "I'm a slave" write large over their face.    May be I'm being dense but I can't see the justification for the gender bias.   Of course it is possible I've missed something in game.    Sometimes the conversations between companions were rather difficult to hear, particularly if we were attacked half way through one or I'd got a bit ahead of them.   So could anyone explain please.

A timely tweet coming in the same day Dragon Age Keep twitter brings up the Solas romance. Definitely magnificent.

 

Let's hope he has something planned for a 'best date' now for Solas & Lavellan.

The vallaslin removal is only for female elves who romanced Solas. The two most likely reasons are that BioWare only had the resources for one gender or that Solas was conceived as a heterosexual character and the writing team/Patrick Weekes chose not to change that.

Well, he does say he was trying to figure out some way to show what she means to him, or something like that. It's basically a romance gift, to give the truth and option of freedom to someone he's fallen in love with. He doesn't remove the vallaslin for a non-romanced female Lavellan either. It comes across as an incredibly tender and intimate moment, so not surprising it's romance specific.
