The removal of the Vallaslin was such a tender, intimate moment that it made what followed so much worse.   Like my poor girl in game I was just gobsmacked and couldn't believe what I was hearing.      I mean I knew from the second romance scene that it might not turn out as hoped since he said it would be kinder not to continue with it.   Still the contrast between the conversation about the Vallaslin and the cold abruptness of "it won't happen again" was brutal.     Even so, she/I was still devoted to him and hoping that once Cory was gone it would be okay since he did promise he would reveal all then.    So when he left and it was clear he really had gone, it really took the shine off the celebrations.   Thank goodness for dear old Varric.   I don't know if it was deliberately that way or I just happened to click on him at the right time but the day after the party he invited her for that game of Wicked Grace he had promised and whilst I couldn't help noticing the empty seats, seeing Josie fleece Cullen of all his clothes finally got me(her) genuinely smiling again.

that's true. but there's still that divide between City and Dalish which is really apparent if you talk to the herbalist? in the garden at Skyhold? (it's been a while), and just all the.. anti-Dalish sentiment. like.. i wish there was a way you could, not erase, but make better the relationship between the two. like work on getting everyone to see that if they stood together and let the little arguments go, i think the majority of people wouldn't mind working together. Naturally there would always be some outliers (there always are).

my Inquisitor kept the vallaslin because they were an integral part of who they were as a person. the knowledge of what they originally meant means that they stood taller for it. It was a reclaim thing for them, i guess you could say. like "I know what this meant THEN, but by wearing them NOW, it doesn't make ME a slave." keeping them was a hard choice, but one they were proud of. even Corypheus tossing insults at them mid battle couldn't phase them because it was a choice. yeah, the whole "you're free" thing, but to them, having the marks meant they were free to choose what they wanted. *shrugs* it was an interesting choice, i'll give the devs that.

Yeah, I get you.  There's the thing with Briala, but my Lavellan couldn't stand by and just let Celene be assassinated.  That was one of the roughest decisions in the game for me.  One of those times where my Lavellan had to choose between what she wanted and what she thought was right.

The Lavellan clan's questline was nice, since it placed a Dalish clan in the position of helping out city elves.  Sometimes it's the small things.  I also like to think Quizzy can help by trying to spread what she's learned to the clans.  Some will always reject it, but others won't.  Hawen's clan reaching out to Red Crossing after they learned the truth about what happened was what I had hoped for.  I don't know if humans will ever entirely accept elves, but getting either side to try to reconcile is a start.  And I think that improving relations between humans and Dalish are also a step towards the Dalish and City Elves understanding each other.

One of the things I liked about keeping the vallaslin is how Corypheus mocks them during his battle.  Given what he did to so many slaves, there's some satisfaction knowing he got taken down by someone wearing slave markings.

*would the Lavellan keeper also be her mother, not sure

In my case, I decided Lavellan's Keeper was her aunt.   (And her parents are hunters, and she has a sister too young for vallaslin yet.)

So, I'm working on an art right now...a Solas art, of course.

But, it's making me feel a tad emotional so I fear you all will hate me after I show the finished version.

I mean, i knew he said in the second romance scene that it would be kinder in the long run to not purcue the romance.. But i never quite believed it, from the very first romance, he seems so.. SO full of passion, he tries to lock it away, but somehow she tear down his wall.

Yes, Solas' phrasing about how "everything will be revealed" seems intentionally misleading. Lavellan/ the player thinks he'll explain himself, while he actually seems to mean that something will happen that will make things clear to Lavellan. Of course, he expected to retrieve the orb intact, so finding it broken probably upset his plans. Or perhaps his plans are forthcoming, and he will make things clear in the future (aka in DLC).

Either way, I don't think he ever intended to actually explain himself to Lavellan, because I think by that time he had decided to leave after battling Corypheus.

Back in DA2, when all of the romance options were bisexual, David Gaider said that given enough development time, ideally they'd like all the characters to represent a range of different sexualities.  IMO they did a pretty good job of that in DA:I.

Yeah, I think even back in the days of Origins, the devs stated that the ideal would be to have one or more options for protagonists of each possible race/gender/preference combination, while still preserving the idea that each character has his/her own preferences which may or may not include the protagonist. Looking at DAI, it's not that hard to understand why it took until now to fully realize that ideal - even just counting the 6 original romance options, it's a monstrous amount of content.

I know it doesn't matter to a lot of players, but I really like the idea of characters' preferences being fixed and not "playersexual" as in DA2. Aside from being better characterization, not having the option to romance a character opens up all sorts of other interactions that might not be possible otherwise. Like the little "thanks, but no thanks" flirt conversation with Aveline, Dorian and Sera, or the possibility of having friendship-exclusive conversations, as with Morrigan. (I still think Morrigan's final friendship conversation with a female Warden in Origins is one of the most heartwarming moments in the series. Doubly so because Morrigan would probably hate describing anything she did as "heartwarming". :D )

*cough* i... made a lot of people really angry when i put Briala in charge >_> (not in this game. i did that in my Cullenmance game) it's worth doing at least once if you're so inclined!

ugh. i've figured out the ways to not get them slaughtered after 4 games. :P i hate that it happens and no one says anything.

i think you're right. getting better relations between peoples is what my Inquisitor wants. i just wish there were a way for them to make that happen. The elves are their first focus, then everyone else, even if they try to keep the larger picture in mind at the same time. there has to be some catering to the humans because they do control the power (and put the Inquisitor in power, no matter how much they protest), but begin able to at least TRY to help their people is a big draw.

Corypheus getting taken down by someone with slave markings... there was that too. :3 my Inquistor was very happy about that, haha.

uh, so off topic. uuuuh.... Solas is awesome! (does that work? ha!)

I decided the same thing!  The Keeper does seem pretty fond of Lavellan in her letters, and I wasn't playing a mage, so I figured they must be related somehow.  I liked being able to headcanon Lavellan's family; at the very least, it means that at least one of my PCs has a happy, normal, functional family.  Everything else in her life is already insane.

Quick question, for anyone that might have an idea/inkling....How often has Solas called your romanced Lavellan's "My heart", when being clicked on at Skyhold?

I am just about to do "What Pride had Wrought", and I have had all the other romance related stuff (minus the final love/breakup scene), but he has only ever answered "My heart" once, when clicking on him in his little rotunda. Hell, I only had him call me "My friend" once as well (in Haven).

Most of the time he just says, "Hello". I don't have any available convos with him at the moment (since they are well exhausted since the last main story line quest was finished), but I still expected that he would answer with "My heart", when I clicked on him. :P Am I just being greedy??

I couldn't pick Briala, even as a dirty elf lover. It just seems too implausible to even be an option. My Lavellan puts it down to Leliana tippling one too many glasses of that spiced punch.

Dorian at the ball... too funny. "Don't get drunk." "You ask so much of me."

I got a pretty even split between my heart, vhenan, and hello. He doesn't seem to change his greeting if you just click on him again though.

That's pretty much all he calls me.

I like the idea of Leliana as Divine, but I have a hard time picking the options that would lead to that in my Lavellan's playthrough (ally with mages, support Briala).  On the whole she agrees more with Cass--you can't force people to change, especially not when Thedas is already in such dire straits.  Also, being able to b****slap Celene, Gaspard, and Briala is just too awesome.

And maybe it's just me, but I kind of couldn't stand Briala in DA:I.  I liked her a lot in Masked Empire, but something about her VA drove me nuts.  She's also a lot more hostile and condescending in DA:I.

It seems to be tied to his animation. It changes (between those three) whenever he moves to a new spot.

I'm guessing, of course. Because no sane person would have invested the time needed to figure that out after waiting to hear 'my heart' again... right?

Haha, I've already sided with Briala on a non-canon replay where I decided to do some different stuff, and my male Lavellan will go that route.  So yeah, I'm still willing to try it with other Quizzies. :D  And I really lucked out with Lavellan's clan, I didn't know they could die until I read the boards.  I always assumed the outcome was more or less the same regardless of who was sent...aha...

But yes, my Quizzy really wanted to be able to use her position to help elves, though I guess time will tell how well that turns out.

And Solas is very awesome. :D

Yeah, all my other canon PCs had dead/mostly dead families, so I was glad Lavellan could have some normalcy in her background.

I was curious, so I clicked on him multiple times in a row once.  It seems to be random, it alternates between "hello", "vhenan", and "my heart".  Maybe others, those are what I remember.

I would have quoted all of those who answered, but the multiquote wasn't working (and I am too lazy at the moment to copy/paste :pinched: ). Thank you all, for the answers. <3

Hmmm.....I believe everything is "technically" fine with the romance. Fairly certain he is maxed on approval, since I don't get the approvals any longer for elven artifacts. And I did get one "My heart", when clicking on him, after Abyss or Wicked Hearts (can't remember which one). But then he just reverted back to "hello". When I did have convo's left, I believe he tossed in a "Vhenan" once...maybe twice. And he always ends with the "darlath sharlan", or whatever the proper elven words are. Sorry, I am not very good with the elven dialogue. I don't have subtitles on, and don't always wait for the dialogue subs to show up.

It is interesting to read that the "greeting" might change based on location/animation. I am going to test that out. Thank you for mentioning that. :)

That whole quest was so disquieting.  Each one of them is awful.  You're propping up this terrible and corrupt government no matter who you choose. I wish we had the option to let the whole thing burn.

I like listening to him sayjng Hello and Goodbye. So very polite of him :P

I've just had him learn blizzard. He's making my battlegrounds look festive.
I have no idea why I keep doing this but I keep picking one element per mage in my playthroughs. So I always have Solas learn the ice tree, Viv learn and fire tree and Dorian learn the lightning tree. It's as if having them mix and match would break my mind. Solas with lightning!? Never!

I've done every available sidequest prior to In Your Heart Shall Burn, because I know how much I get owned when you get waves of enemies dropping in while you are arming that last trebuchet. That was on normal. On nightmare... Eh. I've armed everyone with jars of bees. I'll just keep lobbing them and hope for the best D; I want to get to sexy catwalk Solas with his torch. I er, I mean Skyhold. Yeah. That's what I meant.

I didn't really feel a lot of sympathy towards any of them, either. My favorite resolution is the one where you get the dirt on all three of them and then say "all right I just pwned you all at your own game, you do what I say now". :D

I definitely lol'd at this. I completely forgot about that YuGiOh abridged episode so I wasn't sure what to expect, then the music started and, had I been drinking anything it would have gone everywhere.

Hahaha

Try putting that song in the background while you play with Solas in your party.

It gives everything so much character XD

BEES! The lifesaver on Nightmare difficulty. The sole reason to recruit Sera, actually.

Isn't it nice how Solas says 'Dareth Shiral' to a friendly quizzy? 'Safe Journey.' Considering the state Thedas is in, hearing that is...comforting.
