I didn't really feel a lot of sympathy towards any of them, either. My favorite resolution is the one where you get the dirt on all three of them and then say "all right I just pwned you all at your own game, you do what I say now".

Even so.  You're out in the Emerald Graves and you have all these poor people scrabbling out a living and begging for help. The nobles don't care. They won't care after the war is done and nothing will change.  I'm a bleeding heart so I was like 'boo to everyone here'.  Though i laughed pretty hard when you find the blackmail..."material" for Celene.  Bonus points for Solas' smirk and Dorian's one-liner.

Has anyone been through with a male Dalish?    I was wondering, does Solas only tell his romanced Dalish about the Vallaslin and offer to remove them?   Only I was thinking about the comment before the game came out about there being strong story reasons why he can only romance a female elf.    Now I get the elf bit but it seems to me that he makes a big deal out of the attraction he has for her being as a unique, wonderful person, with the physical aspect hardly mentioned at all.   It is one of the things I loved about him.   However, that being the case,  why couldn't he feel an equally strong attraction to a male Dalish who made exactly the same choices as his beloved female Lavellan?     In fact, if the truth about the Vallaslin is only available to a female Lavellan, it seems rather hard on an equally wonderful male Lavellan that they are left in ignorance and allowed to continue on through life with "I'm a slave" write large over their face.    May be I'm being dense but I can't see the justification for the gender bias.   Of course it is possible I've missed something in game.    Sometimes the conversations between companions were rather difficult to hear, particularly if we were attacked half way through one or I'd got a bit ahead of them.   So could anyone explain please.

Well I'm a person who loves my boyfriend because of his personality and not his looks, but I still won't date a girl since I'm not attracted to females...

It's OK for a character to be attracted to a specific gender and species, he may be a fictional character but if they give loosen up his preferences just for people who want to romance him with a male then it takes from him character. A character is not only defined by personality, it's also how they look and handle themselves as well as sexual preferences. I wish Dorian was Bi, he is lovely lovely and I don't like playing male characters as much as females, but I just respect that he is homosexual and it's just part of his character. Solas is just very specific about his preferences. I think that because he looks to the future of the Elvhen that it won't make as much sense that he would be gay or attracted to a non-elf (elves can only be born out of an elven couple). That part is speculations of course, but still - I think it's interesting he is so specific, it makes him unique.

Male Lavellan may be a really close friend but a connection that is made by two (genuine) lovers is beyond that of a simple friendship, the removal of the vallaslin is very intimate for him I suppose, he won't offer it to a close friend.

A timely tweet coming in the same day Dragon Age Keep twitter brings up the Solas romance. Definitely magnificent.

 

Let's hope he has something planned for a 'best date' now for Solas & Lavellan. 

 

I like to think that he teases us so much because he plans on something.

By Halamshiral my Lavellan is pretty inured to how horrible the Orlesian nobility are.  She's honestly not that surprised when she finds out about the alienage; burn slums, wreck whole swaths of countryside...that's just the way they are.

 

She gets really good at the Great Game and really enjoys it, partially because she's perfectly happy screwing over all these nobles who led the country to such a state.  Total bleeding heart softie for everyone else, but has no compunctions about ruining Celene's perfect little vision for her empire by keeping her rivals around.

As someone who romanced Solas with an elven inquisitor who I headcanoned to be non-binary (agender to be specific), I feel the conversation in this thread is taking a turn toward exclusivity. One of the gems of this thread is that it feels so inclusive. I know there are others who have trans male and genderqueer Lavellan headcanons and who played through the Solas romance, and I hoped the Solas fandom would be welcoming of these players too. I... would like to respectfully ask that we stop talking about Solas being romanceable to female elves only.

Still trying to catch up, but had my last exam today! Done with my second-to-last semester of university hurray! 

 

I'm going to have to reset my sleep schedule due to my international travel plans this weekend, so I think I'm going to stay up til 10am (8 pm now lool) playing Dragon Age, then go pick up my World of Thedas book, then sleep. Exciting evening ahead of meee.

Me too... I was pretty anxious, to be honest, about that dropping meter.  If it wasn't there I would have been more likely to explore and gather the documents.  I may need to look up a guide before I play it again.

This may just be in my head, but it seemed like once I hit 100 approval points and had access to the royal wing, the approval drops over time slowed down and I was able to go back and explore the servant quarters at a more leisurely pace.

So I somehow ended up with a ruthless Leliana who blames me for how she turned out (wut) this playthrough and didn't realize it. I also believe she's in danger of becoming divine despite my support of Cassandra. Thus, I have a feeling a do-over is imminent for my canon Lavellan playthrough. Just asking for more pain, me.

 

I noticed that several of you have mentioned playing your Lavellan over and I wondered if you start from scratch, or pickup from the earliest post cc save. If the latter, does it screw around with anything? The way the save games keep time records worries me a bit. I also wish there were a way to start the save game from an earlier save but then save it in a new character slot so I can keep track of it separately. I'm not sure I can get her face the same again, and I don't want to change it, but I also don't want to break anything later on.

 

Also regarding broken things, has anyone figured out how to absolutely ensure Solas's second personal quest will start? Both playthroughs I've had have failed to initiate it even though I activate every elven artifact that exists. Being able to get that working alone would make the restart worth it.

Thanks to Dorian with static cage, Solas with blizzard, Cass being Cass and my inquisitor with his bees: that fight went suspiciously well.

I freaking adore that whole chat with Solas/walk to Skyhold scene SO MUCH. How can anyone not like Solas's voice when he's doing that bit of voiceover he and my m!Lavellan looked so handsome walking together. Phew. It got all hot in here...

I started from scratch, out of personal preference. If you're worried about your save games, you might want to move your save files from the original character to a different storage device just in case but I don't believe picking up from an earlier save will mess anything up.

 

The second quest is broken for everyone. Haven't heard of a patch yet.

I still want to know who decided the hair options for females and the jammies in skyhold were the best idea. I mean the Jammies are just begging assassins to find us. We're the most stand out character in Skyhold and we're not in armor. Unless Leliana had those Jammies made out of  special dragon leather and diamonds I dont trust them to keep us alive from an arrow out of nowhere...

I have a very early save from post cc that I saved because I knew I'd probably end up wanting to replay it.  I also have a post-haven attack before you go running into the snow save, which is what I used to springboard my replay save file.  I haven't noticed anything amiss from switching between different saves, including my original post-game saves.  It's possible the Keep might be wonky eventually whenever tiles get established, but I can go and fix that manually.  I just remember what saves are what based on timestamps.

 

Not sure about the Solas quest, he just pops it eventually...

I've never gotten it to trigger, but as I understand it "What Lies Dormant" is the "collect n things for approval" quest that each companion has their own version of. So I'd expect that we're missing out on a couple of lines of dialogue, but nothing major.
