see now I'm tempted to roll a male elf quizzy just to romance Dorian. My female elf Quizzy and Dorian are best friends and get into whole lot of trouble together doing mischievous things.

I'm fine with the idea of my Lavellan wearing perfume. I like to imagine that she indulged in a few things after she became the Inquisitor.
I also like the idea that Solas enjoys smelling like her, as long as others don't notice and call him out on it. He really does seem to like being private about their relationship. But I do draw on the whole wolf thing a little when I headcanon that he likes having her scent on him in some way. ![]()

Recording the lines comes earlier in the process than the final animations and such. It's not really that expensive to record a little more dialogue once you already have a VA signed on (marginal costs are pretty low for that sort of thing as far as I know). Better to do while the VA is recording it just in case you'll need the lines, because bringing them back if you decide to change something would be much more expensive. Maybe they did want to include it in the game, but when it came down to the time crunch it was either animate for bisexual romances or animate the dragon encounters and they chose the latter. The price they paid for the VA work was a sunk cost at that point, and trying to fit in the animations for it would have resulted in an additional expenditure they could not/would not make.
I can appreciate why people are upset: There are a lot of things that I am very passionate about concerning games. But I think that the most vocal people on this issue are doing themselves a disservice with the stuff they're directing at the writers. It's one thing to be upset and to voice that, it's another thing to be rude, entitled, and hateful. The former might cause change, the latter just makes everyone bitter and less likely to bother with
something in the future.
I understand why people would be disappointed, but I don't understand what you mean when you say "it's far beyond that." Whether they ran out of time, or ultimately decided to make the characters straight, it's not like the developers are trying to be exclusionary.
Maybe I'm missing something but I haven't seen anyone claiming Bioware is exclusionary. People are just curious if it was lack of time or if they decided to change the characters sexuality last minute. I saw that someone wanted an explanation on twitter from David, just a simple "yes Cullen was supposed to be bi but for [reason] he isn't" which I feel like would be a perfectly normal thing to want. Of course we are gonna be curious what the reason for change is when there was a big opportunity for something that didn't make it in game. I haven't seen any attacks or rude people hating on the writers but then again, maybe I'm missing something.
As for your question I'm just gonna reply with RynJ's quote.
The outrage over Cullen is because a former BioWare QA tester said that Cullen was meant to be available for male Inquisitors but the cinematic team ran out of time. It went beyond just the recording thing.

Would I romance Dorian with a female if I could? Yes. Do I mind him being gay? No, I'll drool instead. Do I go on Twitter to be rude to his writer? No way. Why do people blame him for everything?
I get you entirely, I decided to go gay for Dorian in the next run myself, he is wonderful, but I did want him to be bisexual at first.
I do feel like sexual preferences are part of one's character as well as taste and what they find attractive.
At first I was surprised to see Cullen and Solas romances are so heavily gated but I've come to like it TBH (even if I prefer playing a dwarf instead of an elf/human, and even if I would've liked to be a male), I decided it's part of who they are, even if it's been done out of lack of time/money.
I don't see why people bicker at all >_>
Yes, it could've been different, and also might have been nice, but what if it would've come at the expense of the romance's quality or other stuff? The game as a whole is what we enjoy, this is not an otome game after all (although Solas' romance really did the second playthrough for me).

The animal thing is probably just their shape shift form or something and probably doesn't affect their behaviors or anything, but the little things like enjoying the smell of their loved ones would be cute.
Amusingly, though he is private, I don't think Solas minds others knowing of their relationship. He did dance with her in public and called her 'vhenan' if you got upset at Sera during the party banter. In front of another party member who is neither Lavellan or Sera. Also, the people on the upper floors have to hear them when they flirt, right?

The big problem here isn't that people are disappointed, it's the way that some are choosing to approach the devs, that's what started me off with the bad language anyway lol.

Probably, but I like ascribing slight animal traits to shapeshifters so little headcanons like that are my guilty pleasure! It's not a serious headcanon, haha.

Makes sense to me. My boyfriend wears my perfume sometimes and sometimes I wear his cologne. Gender roles don't tell us how to smell.

Lavellan wonders why there seems to be a pattern involving her pillows rotating every few days. One day her current pillow will disappear and she'll find a previous pillow in its place. The culprit is Solas. He steals the pillows in order to carry her scent with him into the Fade while he dreams and replaces them with fresh Lavellan smelling pillows when the scent disappears.

I actually wouldn't put it past him to do something like that

And he answered "people have to justify being straight?" But there's no value in this discussion on BSN, it always leads to no good.
As for the perfume, the Dalish burn herbs in their fires so I assumed they'd probably use herbal or spiced oils as well.
Solas with hair just doesn't look like him. I like the bald. Or in a cowl, looking all mysterious.
