"He left me/We can't be together but we still love each other and WOE!" until whatever comes to pass and they fall into a passionate embrace once more. "Surely they will have their happily ever after like in the stories. Of course they will." *gnaw*

 

One of my headcanons is that, once my Lavellan and Cass start to be friends (Cass mostly sees her as this strange, pro mage elf who won't stop flirting with her) Cass gets really invested in the Solas/Lavellan relationship (complete with going all big sister on him and asking what his intentions are). And now I'm totally adding this to my headcanon.  Super invested in romance!Cass is the best Cass.

Hello peoples!  I missed this thread and I haven't completely caught up with it. 

 

So it's really awesome that you guys are talking about the Forgotten Ones, because I was just thinking about them.  I was wandering about Thedas pondering the big picture and attempting to fit ill-fitting pieces of a puzzle together, you know like we do.  It, not for the first time, struck me as so odd and strange that we do not have a name or anything at all for the Forgotten Ones.  So I started putting together all that we know about them. 

 

First I would like to ask that you to think of the Gods as more than single entities.  They are the individual, but they are also their empires and nobles and accumulated power. 

 

I would like to put forward that the Forgotten Ones were the slave caste/mortals. 

 

1.  More than once slaves have been referenced as "Invisible" in the game.  I am thinking specifically about a codex in the Western Approach.  Where it talks about how Magisters barely acknowledge their presence and only do so to punish them.  To me, I think that is similar to Forgotten Ones.

 

2.  Solas is remarkably anti-slavery.  He has absolutely no tolerance for Dorian despite the Tevinter's repeated attempts to engage him.  Honestly, his hatred of slavery is the most telling.  Because his "grand plan" to help the slaves seems to boil down to "I don't know.  Just free them."  His heart seems to be in the right place, but his head is not.  Real life history tells us how crap that plan is. 

 

3.  There is no number given for how many Forgotten Ones there are.  This strikes me as especially odd since we know precisely how many gods there were in every pantheon. 

 

4.  Fen'harel is noted as being able to walk between both groups.  It would hardly be surprising if Fen'harel had started out as a member of this caste only to be raised up to "godhood".  Possibly as a result of the war he talks about with Blackwall.  We have speculated to death about the wolf symbology and it's relation to warriors. 

 

Now what happened to them?  I think it is possible that they are right here on Thedas and Fen'harel sealed them away ... on this side of the veil as the elves we know today.  To me it would explain why we never see any physical representations of the F.O. and why the elves seem to despise them while simultaneously loving the gods.  We have seen time time again examples of ex-slaves who hate themselves and continue to venerate their masters.  I think that it got warped over time and that is why the people hate the Forgotten Ones and Fen'harel.

Now I am not going to tie in the Void with this, beacuse I'm not sure.  But I'd like to know what you lovely people think.  I'm not sure I believe any of this myself.  I'm just speculating.

Thanks for this!  Oh yeah, it's far far worse for us, but..it's also one of the best scenes in the game which everyone seems to be in agreement with.  I'd recommend it to anyone, it's very much worth getting your soul shattered into tiny fragments and scattered to the four winds...

 I like pretty much all versions of it, too. There's another dialouge option here at 53:40 that spawns an interesting answer too: Solas says "You must not let false modesty allow you to pass your power to someone else. There are few regrets sharper than watching fools squander what you sacrificed to achieve." I do think he does feel at least a tiny bit of resentment at the idea that he sacrificed so much and the ones he originally sacrificed it for let it go to waste and allowed the elves end up where they are now.

I could totally see Cass being invested in the Solavellan relationship if you're friends with her. It's definitely how I see Cass in my playthrough. In my Solavellan playthrough, her banter with Solas about Tala's missing vallaslin happened 4 times so I headcanon that she's very concerned for Tala (who's a bit down since her breakup with Solas and Cass thinks maybe the missing vallaslin has something tied to that) and pesters Solas about it non-stop.

 

In other news, I continued my male Trevelyan playthrough and finally reached Skyhold. The sad thing is, instead of trying to gain Cassandra's approval (since I'm planning on romancing her), I find myself trying to gain Solas' approval instead!

 

I JUST CAN'T RESIST SOLAS OKAY?! D:

 

*ahem* Anyway, at least my m!Trevelyan and Solas are bros now. Though doing the dream sequence without the whole Fade kiss (and lack of romantic music at the end) seems a bit weird.

I think the friendship path is pretty cool, even if you have to wait to the end to get the dialogue.  It's wonderful.

God, I'm gonna sound like the craziest girlfriend but I for the longest time I was convinced that the "leaf-eared lover" in the Saga of Tyrdda Brightaxe was actually Solas. I mean, a knowledgeable, almost otherworldly figure who is also an elf? It fit to a T. Plus, Patrick Weekes wrote the Saga that we read in-game. So as we were wandering the Hinterlands and I kept finding Tyrdda Brightaxe stuff (like the tree planted to honor her lover) I kept giving Solas such a stinkeye. Which is completely irrational. I mean, he's lived for a very long time. He's got to have had other loves. Didn't stop me from being jealous though.

 

But just this evening on twitter Patrick Weekes confirmed that Tyrdda's lover was a woman. I felt both relieved and really embarrassed for feeling relieved. 

 

I totally feel ya.  I was also convinced that it was Solas, moreso when I got Tyrdda's "axe" that turned out to be a mage staff.

 

But the "leaf-eared lover" being a woman makes sense because now we know why she had to turn to someone else in order to get an heir.

Sigh, I am dragging out the main story for as long as possible so that the third romance scene would be one of the last things I have to do in the game. I finished hinterlands, fallow mire, storm coast, and the oasis before sealing the breach.

I'm trying to get enough shards to complete the Solasan Temple before going off to dance with Solas and beat the game. It's taking so long I'm starting to lose interest. Seventy hours in a game when you work full time is a little intense.

It would help if Solas had more romantic content!

I swing between optimism they need to deal with that cliffhanger before any future DA game is release, and pessimism that the story between Lavellan and Solas is over.

 

Although, I find the best part about any RPG is that you can imagine or head canon anything you want. And if that means ignoring what happens and I picture a happy ending, I'm fine with that. I don't need DLC to give me that... but that doesn't mean I don't want it!

I am a total pessimist but i am going to hold out hope for a happy ending/resolution until the devs get around to killing all the unicorns.

I'm very connected to Solas' character and I want to know more, understand his motives and if given the chance, maybe help (all this theorizing is wrecking my brain).

It'll be nice if they would still address the romance (I'd be ecstatic), but the first priority for me is that there will be more Solas, generally.

Me thinks that Solas will appear at some point (there are a lot of things that point at that possibility), it would be nice if it would happen in a DLC and not in the next game though (for which we'll have to wait an eternity, I might even be dead before that game comes out!])

If they could do it for the Witch Hunt DLC they could do it for this upcoming DLC. I think everyone, regardless of whether they romanced Solas, would like to know what the heck is going on with him and how it fits into the whole game's plot. You kind of think you know what's going on until that end scene, and then you realize you have no idea what was going on. My boyfriend insists that a DLC won't answer any questions, because he swears they never do. In his opinion, we're most likely to get a new area, a bunch of new and temporary companions to go with it, and some cryptic codexes that involve Solas but we'll be unlikely to see him.

 

God I hope he's wrong...
