Yea I think it would be best if we talked about something else other than Solas' romance possibilities. A lot of threads are making this their central topic. Come on everyone let's talk about other things about Solas like if he will be respected by all of the other companions.

 

Oh, don't get me wrong.  I don't mind discussing the romance, but there definitely is more to Solas than that...

 

I will be a little disappointed if Solas isn't an option, but he's just pixels and I'll move on.  Now if he IS an option, expect me to glee, and glee hard.

I'm not saying it's bad either. I'm glad it's being discussed. But yeah it seems like it's the only thing we have been discussing so far. If people wish to discuss further by all means. Like you said though this thread is starting to turn a bit negative so I just thought it would be better to wait and see since he has just as much of a chance as any of the others. I just don't want anyone to be disappointed is all and like you said there is more to Solas than just romance.

one thing out of nowhere I'm curious about...we have seen Cullen, Blackwall, Cole with some kind of elm/hat (and maybe IB, but I can't remember) while we never see Solas with something on his shaved head (cute shaved head  ) what kind of elm/hat do you think he will wear?

That's a fab idea. 

 

I have a feeling that a good number of the other companions will love to bother him, Sera and Iron Bull especially, but I don't think that necessarily means they don't respect him. It might depend on just how much they bother him and about what. A lot of friends like to poke fun at each other but don't go too far.

 

I think Cole may end up being the one who respects him the most because of his open-mindedness.

It would honestly be nice if they'd just go ahead and drop the rest of the romance bombs at GaymerX on Friday and be done with it.

 

Then people will have the weekend to get the ranting and raving out of their systems in their characters' respective threads, and then we can all move on with life and go back to discussing other stuff.

 

But the piecemeal reveals followed by the tiny bit of additional confirmations yesterday seem to have cast a pall over a lot of the forums until all the cats are removed from the bags.

Yeah with only 2 more to be confirmed it's pretty natural people are getting antsy. It probably isn't possible for a thread to be 100% positive all the time, and the Solas thread is pretty much a shining example of a thread that is positive most of the time. I skip past posts on subjects I'm not interested in reading in threads all over the forum, it's easy done. That said if it gets excessive I'm sure we'll reign ourselves in by group consensus.

Personally, I don't think the answer is to avoid being sad about something by never being hopeful about it in the first place.

 

The only time I feel the speculation becomes a problem is when the developers get harassed about it constantly, or chewed out for not having a particular option. Otherwise, people should be allowed to speculate and dream to their heart's content. If they get disappointed, well, then yes, it's disappointing. But it's a game and there's a lot more to it than the romance options. In fact, because it's just a game, all the more reason to not worry about taking a risk. It's not like you're deciding not to apply for a job, or submit to a film festival out of fear of being rejected.

But yeah, I think we'll know in the next few days and I really think Solas has a good shot at an LI slot. At this point, I'll be honest, I'll be pretty surprised if he's not in. I think Viv and IB will be our race gated bi options. Varric is likely heterosexual and race gated, which makes him seem very unlikely to me, plus all the times devs have mentioned Bianca. Blackwall seems more likely to be like a Wynne type figure, to me.

 

Obviously just my guesses, but the balanced option we need is an "open to all" bi male to pair against Josephine and they set Solas up well to fill that, I think. He's also a nice counterbalance to Iron Bull since they're basically opposites.

Just a heads up, the "building a better romance" panel at GaymerX is on Saturday at 3:30 (PST). I mean, we might not get the info at that particular panel (or at all) but it seems most likely, at least in my opinion.

Yeah, the romance thing is crossing the line from fun speculation to full on impatient irritation for many on this forum, from what I can see. People will get angrier and angrier now the longer the remaining LIs are kept secret.

 

Which is why I hope they drop soon and everyone can have fun again (after a day or two of wailing)

Kind of with Nocte ad Mortem here... I believe that of all of them, Solas's chances are best (Iron Bull is probably the other male).  Then we round out the ladies with Vivienne, who is (most likely) bisexual but may be race gated.

 

It would not surprise me if Vivienne is race gated against elves and possibly qunari, since she's all about power--and elves and qunari are not precisely in good standing.  Dwarves... maybe, though surface dwarves have their own problem areas.  Hard to say.  She might not be race gated at all; it might be Cassandra who is race gated, due to, as others said, being nobility.  Though that doesn't necessarily mean she's gated against anything but human nobility--she might still romance a mage, for instance.

 

If both race gated LIs are males romanceable by women and gay men... well, that will be a huge problem, and I don't think BioWare would be blind to it.  At least, I hope they wouldn't be.  So, yes, it's looking like Solas, and yet while I will hope for him I won't expect him.  Honestly, I won't be surprised at all if it's Varric, but will be quite stunned if it's Blackwall (and I'm sorry for that, 'cause I know he's got some major fans here... he's not my type but I totally get that he is some people's ideal).

How do you think Solas will feel about an emotional Inquisitor?  We learned that the Fade reflects the thoughts and fears of living people, so do you think he'll be bothered by a passionate or aggressive Inquisitor?  That said, I wonder how strong positive emotions would shape the Fade.  Look at our romance speculation situation right now: I consider "hope" to be a positive thing, but it's also dangerous because it's linked to the pain of disappointment (I couldn't avoid talking about romance, sorry).  Is it best to approach the Fade with a completely neutral, emotionless mindset? 

 

Edit:  I wonder this because I am a considerably emotional person, both positive and negative.  Would the intensity of my positive passions and emotions have a negative impact on the Fade?

Neutral is the mindset I think Solas has, but it could also be positive. The things everybody else has been seeing in the Fade were negative because they received negative information on it. I think Solas understands this so probably either positive or neutral. Positive emotions I imagine would completely change one's outlook on the Fade and Solas is said to stand out when it comes to the Fade which makes me want to take him with me on Fade missions even more.

Hmm, I doubt even Solas is approaching the Fade like that, though. He seems to get excited and earnest about discovering new things, so he goes in with curiosity and eagerness to learn something new instead of fear. Perhaps that's the way to go about it. Solas sounds pretty passionate about a few things, from what we could tell in his interview, but I could see aggression bothering him. I imagine he might get irritated by an Inquisitor that strikes first instead of thinking and tends to pick a fight whenever possible.

 

We also know that Solas isn't too concerned about his fighting skills as much as he is learning about the Fade, though he can defend himself well. I'm now imagining him reading a book in the middle of a battle and hurling fireballs to take out enemies without even looking up 

 

Edit: Don't know if it's possible, but I hope that we somehow get to see Solas's version of the Fade. I want to see how it's different because of his mindset!

Mostly, I think Solas will get annoyed if you're too hasty about some things or if you support things that he sees as restricting people's freedoms, like the Qun or the Circles. For the former, he cares about learning about things and I think he would be against throwing away opportunities to learn from a situation. I imagine he wont approve of the, "this is scary, destroy it!", approach.

I was underwhelmed by Force Mage when I first saw it but I freaking adored it once I tried it.  It felt like Hawke was literally mopping the floor with bad guys, ugh soooo badass  (I may have "mwuahaha'd" a few times)

I freaking loved it! I even had a system: use the attack that pulls all of the enemies together, then pick all of them up at once and slam them, then use the one that makes them all go flying apart. I had WAY too much fun as a Force Mage but it was a little too easy

Someone who can art should really draw Solas flinging fireballs while reading a book! 

 

I keep thinking Solas may be sweet-tempered, a little absentminded in the way brilliant people can be, more inclined to peaceful solutions if they can be found, fiercely loyal to his friends once you finally gain his trust, and of course, have a dry, sly sense of humor that will often escape the more brash companions. Even from the art we have so far, his body language (I'm probably reading too much into it, but what the hell, SPECULATION IS LIFE) suggests he's a thoughtful listener who might hang back while everyone says his or her piece, then give an opinion. I also think his abilities may include summoning some of his "friends" in the Fade to fight for him...which would be a really cool ability.

 

Also, I'm a little late on this, but that demo video rocked.  I get giddy every time I see Redcliffe.  I turn into an overexcited six-year-old yelling "Look you guys look I was there one time LOOK YOU GUYS WOW!"
