So this has probably been brought up before but I've been working on my second playthrough, with Solas as a romance and I have a question in regards to the Well of Sorrows. We know he's pissed off if you decide to drink from it, but do we know why? He seemed to want to preserve any Ancient Elven artifacts but he didn't want the Inquisitor or Morrigan to drink from the Well (well I know why he didn't want Morrigan to drink lol). Also when you ask him to drink from it, he gives you a clipped answer of "no thank you, leave it at that."

Also towards the end, when he talks to Flemeth/Mythal, we know he absorbs something, Mythal's soul? Flemeth's? So does that mean that if the Inquisitor drinks from the Well, towards the end she's tied to Solas?

It's because by taking the power of the Well, the Inquisitor effectively becomes Mythal's slave, and must abide by whatever Mythal's will is.  Solas is vehemently against slavery and for freedom, so it makes perfect sense that, no matter what knowledge you might get out of it, he's against the Inquisitor giving up his/her freedom.

Unfortunately the banter where he begs a romanced Lavellan not to, is not present.  Would have liked to hear it.

Please tell me that mod is avaible to download.

I'm not sure that's a mod, other than getting a retexture of the formal uniform on Cullen.  For the others, I'm pretty sure that the cloth is Infused Samite with a Darkened Samite sash.  Infused Samite is white, Darkened Samite is black.  Dress uniform is the same on everyone, and you get the schematic post-ball.

Again, though, it would need to be modded onto Cullen since the only time he wears it is at the ball.

That said, it would be nice if that uniform could take the place of the Dreaded Beige PJs.

I'm guessing the beige uniform came about because different people have different taste, and it is meant to be worn under the Inquisitor's armor as well.  Neutral colors work best to go with anything.  I'd rather live with the beige PJs than know that the resources to make different versions could have gone to something else.  Modders will fix it, I'm sure.

It's the boots, I swear.  Well, granted, with Solas, it's everything. But I have recently decided that male elves in over-the-knee boots are just... *gurgle*

Yeah I can see this being something upsetting to him. I mean poor Lavellan doesn't even know he's some sort of Elven God/Immortal being. Well I guess my Lavellan could've done worse lol. She's gonna rage when she finds out. I just find it curious that without him wanting to we're tied to him with or without Lavellan's knowledge.

...
I mean at this point, I don't even know if Solas is something like Anders or Flemeth, a mortal sharing a body with an immortal being or Solas physically being the Dread Wolf. I imagine that whatever happens next, will have a lot to do on whether he/she drank from the Well or not. I feel that decision wouldn't even be there if it wasn't important.
...

My theory, since Solas appears to become the new host for Mythal, is that Solas is an original immortal elf magister who awoke. The Dread Wolf story is a legend of his mage abilities.

[Edit]Since Flemeth seems to know Solas, maybe that's their relationship and he has been a host for Mythal before. Maybe that's why the Wolf statue is in the Temple of Mythal.

The quality is poor in this shot as it was taken with the cinematic tool and it was during the scene where Abelas was speaking so the focus was not on the party, but just look at the expression on Solas' face...

Add this to the playlist. :3  The Hidden Place, being the Fade -- naturally.

He's the beautifulest
Fragilest
Still strong
Dark and divine
And the littleness of his movements
Hides himself
He invents a charm that makes him invisible
Hides in the air
Can I hide there too?
Hide in the air of him
Seek solace
Sanctuary

He looks very very worried that you're going to kick poor Abelas like a sad puppy.  :(

And ARGH the glued arms bug!  Can't unsee!

But that is some godly (hee) armor you've made for him.  I recognize the ring velvet, but what's the other material and what's the schematic?

Indeed. After drinking the well and you approach Solas, when he's like "I told you not to drink it!"

I was played and was like "NO YOU DIDN'T!"  I would have listened. :)

Yeah, I think that comes across pretty clearly in the conversation post-Well. Does anyone know if he reacts in a similar way if you're friends with him and drink from the Well? I seem to remember someone saying that if his approval is low, he doesn't say much about it. Which would make sense.

I might be the only one who liked the formal wear, lol. Combined with her short blonde haircut it made my elven Inquisitor look rather cute, in a boyish sort of way.

I feel guilty... my Lavellan made out with Cullen after the Fade kiss with Solas.  I was curious  :o

...and then went back a save so she could stay with Solas.  The scene with Cullen was pretty cute, but it felt like "cheating", even when going back a save XD

I think I'll have to make a human one of these days just to romance Cullen (since my Lavellans can't resist Solas).  I may create a world state with an Amell or Surana Warden for that playthrough-it should make things interesting.

Dawww,he looks so sad!Solas is possible the most subtle character in the game, even by observing his expression when it's not visible can give you major hints about his personality and thoughts. His cinematic designer deserves all the cake in the world!

Since some people are talking about If, When, How, When Solas loved Lavellan, I did a thing. I edit a lot of videos and took screen shots of what his facial expression was when no one else was looking or could not see his face and was thinking about/interacting with Lavellan. Solas is a deeply reserved a private man, I can only assume he would not show his true face when people are looking at him. Much like a sociopath....

Solas looking at Lavellan as everyone sings to her/mourns or whatever. Looking at her like she's meat. Some would say this is sexy. However I think at this point he just sees her as a very useful pawn and desires that. Remember that he used to be really manipulative when he was at full power.

4KPDmhA.png

Looking at her when she sees skyhold. A little less "wolfish" and a bit more curious. I like to imagine skyhold was built on top of his old sacred ground. Maybe he's a little less intent on using her as a pawn and sees her slightly more as an equal.

cFsI172.png

After the second kiss when he is turned away from her. Is that guilt? Shame? Maybe he feels bad for still trying to use her, but also can't help loving her. Apparently we are in a teen RomCom from 1998. I love it.

xFiPCM3.png

After third kiss and he says he has to not be with her anymore. I think in the moment before he really knew he loved her and couldn't do it anymore. Like all his lies and deceit to her came crashing down and he knew he was a real a**hole.

kt5ExWH.png

Here we are when Lavellan feels bad that the/his orb is broken. "It's not your fault". I think he might be a changed man at this point.

LPN014H.png

One last look.

I4jb3u3.png

Conclusion: He was probably intent on using her and everyone else to his own gains at first. But she surprises him and this makes him feel empathy and remorse. He makes connections with other people, and small friendships. All he has now is guilt and regret, and a feeling that he must atone for his actions.

He's been alone and manipulative for so long, I think it's hard for him to just be honest with someone. Which is why he just leaves. he doesn't know how to express any of those feelings and it probably hurts and is confusing. Which is why feelings are bad and you should never do them.

TL;DR: Lavellan p**** so good it can change the moral alignment of a god.

I haven't gotten to that part yet on my current playthrough, but I think that my short haired Lavellan will look pretty good in it too.  She has that androgynous look that I find quite beautiful.

The arms are awful, haha.

The armour is the battlemage schematic which I think I bought from the mabari in the Hissing Wastes. I'd need to check to remind myself about the fabric. It might be the Royale Sea Silk.

Can we talk about this Cole banter? It's fascinating and heartbreaking, though I'm not sure exactly what this is. Cole saying what he thinks Wisdom would? Or repeating something he heard before?

Spoiler

On a side note, reading people on the "least popular character" thread say that Cole is boring- Cole, the character who gives you insight into your companions and quest NPCs' motivations- makes me realize that some people play video games for very different reasons than I do.

So, bear with me, suspicious/confusing theory time. Lets sum up:

Spoiler

Now, in the game I assume that 7 comes before 8 since that is how they are sequentially placed. This makes me think that Solas is still Solas after the weird scene with Flemythal. but I still wonder about this whole path-walked-in-solitude business. Was that an inevitability of Big-World-Changing-Plan-A and B? Or just B? Also, he made it seem like he would stick around after the fight, but what made him have to leave so suddenly?

So basically that wasn't a theory, but a really long question that can't be answered with the information at hand. Aaaand now I am back to square one, which is being in a state of extreme confusion and frustration.

Feel free to ignore this post. I thought tapping letters into a computer might help me get somewhere...it did not.

Lol, I used that scene in my "Hallelujah" Solas/Lavellan video at this part in the lyrics:

Your faith was strong but you needed proof.

You saw her bathing on the roof.

Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you.

XD I thought it could be interpreted as the look of a man who fell in love.  Though, I guess your interpretation could work... it makes my video kind of messed up though O.o

Oh no.

I hope I'm being paranoid here, but alarm bells just went off in my head on reading this again.

Can someone with access to the game confirm that this updates to "his" rather than "her" if the Inquisitor is male?

I'm terrified of the alternative, as it would be strong evidence for a suspicion that's been haunting me about Solas, the orb, and the limits of his power / agency that I desperately want to be false.

Please, please tell me it does.

Nah it's okay to like it when someone wants you bad. Just you know. Make sure they are an ancient god who will change their ways after they fall in love.

In my first playthrough I was rather confused by Solas wolfish look at my Lavellan, even though I wasn't romancing him we were in really good terms and he seemed to me kind of upset about Lavellan getting all this attention.Others have interpreted the look as being more calculating rather than angry, but I was rather confused at first.

It sounds like Cole is reading a memory of Wisdom.  And yeah, one of the reasons I loved having Cole along was his insights.  He'd do his little psychic detective thing wherever we went, and it was interesting.

All interpretations are probably valid as his emotions are probably complex to the point where even he doesn't know. I think the overall arch should be noted that it goes from the first face to the last. And the major differences in them.
