I think the line is "...but losing you would - " It's still a good question. Losing her would what? Hurt him? Be catastrophic in some magic-in-your-hand manipulative way? Take away one small chance to be happy for a short while? Hmm.

Or we're all being trolled so hard and will find out in a DLC that Solas really didn't care and will happily hand us over to fuel a spell with our death. :P Or worse, there will just be... nothing.

No I think he means watching her die (which is very likely they are about to take on a Tevinter Magister of old) would crush him, if he never got to kiss her

Really late epiphany. No wonder Patrick decided to do AssQuisitor after a Solas romance.

I'm really trying to avoid spoilers the best I can, and I did search a few times to see if this was answered here (or anywhere, haha) already, but so far, no cigar...

I'm doing Solas' romance, but unfortunately having to take my time because the person who owns the game (my brother) isn't letting me advance past him in the story, so, unfortunately, it may take a while for me to find out on my own (particularly since Solas' romance plot seems to be the slowest going). But earlier when I checked in on him (I do this with everyone every so often, I'm paranoid about missing conversations thanks to having to replay the entirety of KotOR years back because I missed a conversation that locked me out of a romance subplot), rather than calling me "My heart," or "Vhenan," as usual, he just said "Hello." This came almost immediately after I got a 'Solas Slightly Disapproves' message on one of the choices I made in Cole's sidequest (even though I sided with Solas in the end). I thought maybe it was because of that, but now when I activate the elven artifacts randomly located around, I don't get a 'Solas Slightly Approves' and he's still calling me "hello..."

Did I do something wrong? .__. Is it irreparable or am I just paranoid and nothing is wrong at all?

Okay, here's a wrench in the works.

On a non-romanced character, Solas says goodbye to the Q before the last battle because he knows he's leaving.  What if Solas gave that little answering machine message to Cole before the last battle as well?

Now we *really* don't know if Solas is still the same guy after the epilogue scene.

I don't think it was an "answering machine message."

It's easy to miss/forget, that the point in time where you hear Cole talk to Solas, post-campaign, is (at least) one month after the final battle. Because all your other companions will talk to you about who was elected Divine, which the epilogue cards say happened one month after the battle.

Which gives Solas plenty of time to go meet Flemeth, before Cole would have that conversation with him.

I think my post actually ended up under yours. This thread moves so fast!

He replies that way sometimes, even when you are in a romance with him. You can say bye and then start talking to him again. At some point he will say "My Heart" or Vhenan" again. You didn't not ruin the relationship.

I think that conversation pertains to Solas's spirit friend in Faded For Her, and is possibly from her perspective. They mention that she was a spirit of Wisdom.

And I really like Cole a lot more than I thought I would. My Lavellan became closer to him than my human character, since he is Solas's buddy. Sometimes Cole provides a better understanding of Solas than he does himself.

I know it's Wisdom, but I'm trying to figure out if it's something she actually said, if it's Cole roleplaying her or what. Also what she says is pretty significant. Never knew wisdom like any man or spirit before?

If you're not getting anything for the artifacts, it's likely that you've just maxed out with approval.

Don't worry too much about approval.  My BF allied with the templars, spared the Wardens, made Cole human, and still managed to get all of Solas's friendship convos.  She just had to do a bit of extra artifact hunting.

I restart the convo til he says My heart or vhenan. Most the time he has nothing to say anyway, so it'd just to hear that cute little "My hawt"

In the Greek myths, "bored immortals" is where creatures like centaurs and harpies came from.  Icky.

Or....Qunari?  ;)

Or, to continue that, he is no longer actually Solas but the vessel of, well, you know. Anything he had before is no longer relevant and will not be addressed outside of a single toneless comment. "You were the one he fancied for awhile. Most interesting."

In the end you will be able to save him, but to do so means sacrificing your entire party and letting a village be laid to waste. He will then resent you for that sacrifice on his behalf once he has returned to normal and it will cause a breakup. You will never see nor hear from him again. In fact, no one will even remember him at all.

Should you have let him sacrifice himself instead, he will again be Solas, and will visit you in your dreams... where his strength ends just short of being able to touch or hold you, so all you can do is reach for each other across the dreamscape and cry your unending love.

This is a better outcome than you forcibly sacrificing yourself, in which he goes mad, destroys half the continent, and eventually burns himself out in one last fiery torrent of death, your name the last echo heard in a shattered world.

I'm so sorry, everyone. I really do love you all.

Well...there goes my productivity for the day.  :(

I didn't really interpret him as planning everything out that closely. In his interactions with the Inquisitor, you can clearly see that he's trying to stay distant, but he almost always allows himself to be persuaded into talking more. You can just see him struggling between gratifying your curiosity and not giving too much away. Because, really, he likes being talked to. He doesn't want to be isolated. It's what he fears most in the world. To have lived and died with nobody understanding him. If you go back through the game, you can see that 90% of what he tells you is the truth. And whenever you call him out for inconsistencies, he fumbles a bit. I don't think he wants to lie to you. His heart just isn't in it. But he feels that he has to in order to stay with the Inquisition.

:crying: you always describe him so well.

Oh, okay. I thought of it as Cole's interpretation of what she would've said; and how she saw Solas. Not sure, those two are so cryptic sometimes...

Can we talk about this Cole banter? It's fascinating and heartbreaking, though I'm not sure exactly what this is. Cole saying what he thinks Wisdom would? Or repeating something he heard before?

Spoiler

It starts with Cole saying something about a male journeying the fade in slumber.. so Solas ask him not to do it, or if Cole has to do it, to at least do it in the way she "the spirit of wisdom" would do it, not on Cole's own words, then Cole says what yo usee above. It is Cole trying to "channel" Solas spirit friend. And he gets pretty close because Solas thanks him. I had that banter in my game

I'm usually cagey of coming up with really concrete headcanons before a story is resolved; like coming up with LI headcanons before getting the game, I feel like that's just setting myself up for disillusion.  But I do have a few potential happy ending thoughts for Solas and Lavellan.

I don't really want Solas to give up his immortality or Lavellan to become a goddess or immortal; I think the tale works best with a bit of sad along with all the sweet.  So they spend one lifetime together, and when she dies her spirit stays with him throughout all the long ages, until he's willing to lay down his burden of protecting the People and finally rest.

I'll say this again, don't forget Patrick Weekes was the only writer who wanted an option to save Thane. They really need to listen to him more...

I actually never knew this. Patrick Weekes really is the best  ... It definitely gives me more hope. Especially the way Weekes has been teasing us. I don't think he'd be doing this if it was really the end of Solas and Lavellan.

Amen to that! I want to believe he's not that cruel. He's created an incredibly beautiful and complex character/situation/romance. Killing it now... I don't see the point. Solas' backstory is already tragic, more tragedy doesn't benefit his development at all. His healing through Lavellan though, that would be something unexpected, and wonderful, and and and... please, at least give us that option.

WEEKES, are you reading this? DON'T KILL THE UNICORNS

On a side note, Bioware is big about options, and continuity, and meaningful character development. I hope they listen to the fans about this one.

Creating such a big attachment to a character only to kill it off doesn't benefit anyone. When the fans give you strong signals about wanting to continue playing your game because they love your character, I think that's not to be taken lightly. Given how the epilogue was presented, though, it seems HIGHLY unlikely that we won't be seeing Solas anymore in a DLC/expansion/etc. Now it's just a matter of how they handle the whole Solas-Lavellan situation. :) Let's hope for the best
