Unforeseen consequences are a possibility too. Will it really be that easy to just remove the Veil and merge what has evolved into two worlds without anything getting broken? It seems like there's a lot of potential not just for people to riot (because everyone's been taught forever that the Veil being removed would be the worst and that would probably mess with the spirits big time) but for things to not fit quite like they did before the Veil existed. Whatever happens, Solas will be at least partially responsible.
Morrigan says change is coming too. Tearing down the Veil may only be one part of that change. Or we could be wrong about the possibility of it happening and the change is something else entirely.
That would be trading the problems of one type of world for another, but not necessarily making the world worse as people here seem to assume. It's already pretty bad. It got bad in the past, too, without the Veil, so Solas' answer isn't necessarily an answer. The whole thing makes me think of his conversation with IB about a Qunari invasion. IB probably thinks Orlais and Ferelden would be better off under the Qun, even though it would take a bloody war to accomplish it (he never really lets Solas pin him down about whether he wants to see it happen). Solas seems to understand there that you'd just be trading one set of problems for another. Possibly he'd be willing to see the Veil sundering in the same light.
All the hints about the change do seem to point to a merging of the Fade with the physical world.
I guess if I picture the bittersweet ending of Solavellan, it would be that you persuade Solas to leave the world intact which requires him to continue his lonely vigil over the old gods, and at that point Lavellan can decide to join him in it or not. It's pretty much Witch Hunt, which maybe means it would seem repetitive so they wouldn't do it that way, but it would be a satisfying conclusion for me and allow Solas to come back in future games like Morrigan did. Since the vigil makes me think of the Crossroads, my theme song for this theoretical ending is Where the Streets Have No Name.
